BREACH: Chicago War Zone (WIP) (1 Million Words UPDATE! 23-April-2024)

is it just me or if you pick raquel when the cuddle scene is you dont get one with her but when you go back into the room it says like she was cuddled with you

@romanproper I reread that part, but I don’t understand what do you mean, so it’s safe to assume it’s just you.

My guess would be that they’re saying that it’s similar to the Gabe situation where there’s no explicit scene of intimacy, but it’s mentioned that he sleeps in MCs room.

When your ro come in and sleeps with i dont see any about Raquel but after your woken up and got to the meeting when you go back in after word it says about how you wonder where Raquel went. Also if you do cuddle with Raquel shouldnt the scene after where you go see what gabe wants and Raquel wakes in be a little different then

Wait, there’s an option to cuddle with Raquel? I have her as my ro but I didn’t even see this haha. In which part is it?

I felt the connection with Megan though. Up to this day I still feel a deep-seated hatred for her for blowing my cover.

Isn’t the trio having a meeting or something while you take a nap?
If so, it makes sense that Raquel and Gabriel isn’t available for cuddles.

Finally gotten around to doing the Archangel route of the demo, here’s my thoughts like I did with the FBI route:

Archangel Route thoughts

Firstly, the differences between the intros is a bit jarring. The FBI route starts with a big load of exposition, where it’s cast as a war zone from the start. In the Archangel route, the recent disorder isn’t that reflected upon, and instead you’re dropped into casing the Crimson Trust without any lead-up as to developments from the end of the last game.

Granted the FBI route starts a few weeks after the Mill raid, but I was a bit confused about the situation in the Archangel route. It was only until the convo with Gabriel & Michael that we’re informed that the Don isn’t engaging in open fighting because he’s short on soldiers. Also, I presume that given how everyone acts, downtown Chicago (where the bank is) is much closer to normality than other parts of the city? If that’s so, a comment on it might be handy.

The heist itself is something I’m looking forward to. I hope it’s something that’s more on the scale of the Tower raid, has a bit more player agency like the two jobs in the last game. I also like the variety of options to take it on, both loud and quiet. I kinda want to do it guns blazing, simply because the big bank job is such an archetypal thing in crime fiction. Also the Payday influences – FWB/Big Bank are just great loud.

In the prior spirit of opportunities to be an ass to the trio, the planning scene could be a moment for the PC to potentially be defensive about the trio getting involved with one of their jobs. They’ll probably get shut down and it’ll achieve nothing but piss them off, but for role-playing reasons, I guess? While the PC may have gone along with it all in the first game, the Mill Raid marks a sea change; some have gone over to the FBI (either undercover or informant), others have stayed with the Archangels. For the latter, the start of the “war zone” could incite the start of disgruntlement against the trio.

When you torture Marcus to get the location of the vault blueprint, and successfully roll he mentions “T-The one in Cicero”. Gabriel identifies it as a warehouse, seemingly out of nowhere; it might be useful if it were explained how they understood what Marcus meant by “the one”. The way they speak about it seems to imply that they already knew about it as a drug smuggling hub, but it isn’t clearly mentioned.

The Cicero warehouse, while it felt like a bit of a diversion fetch-quest and didn’t seem to fit in that smoothly (due to how everything’s a bit rushed in prepping for it), I did like. It was somewhat novel to have Mouse along in the field, and it’s one of the first times seeing the Outfit’s operations in detail – as in not just its front businesses. Going through the rooms full of blueprints was also rather eye-opening in terms of just how much influence the Outfit has over Chicago and its surroundings, thus raising questions over how powerful the Cartel is to cow the Outfit.

When the PC, Ramiel and Uriel breach into the room full of drugs, perhaps there could be an option where the PC goes in first? Given all the potential prepwork in the prior game, some players may have used loud fighter builds, wherein it makes more sense for them to go in ahead of the Uriel, or maybe they’re just blood knights and want to kill more Outfit than the others. But I get that also means that a fight scene and combat rolls have to be done – if that’s to be avoided, perhaps some sort of justification for the PC to stick behind?

I have mixed feelings on the common room scene. I especially liked the scene with Bishop and the painting, I felt that was the best of the snippets there. Something that really dove into his character and world view, as well as the potential for foreshadowing. It was also nice to see the PC’s crew interacting with the others outside of action, too, as well as general material featuring them.

Regarding the rest, I think the main issue revolves from how I’m not that familiar with Voldy’s crew and Enigma so as to set them apart and identify them. It’s been a while since I played the last game (and I main an FBI character with a secondary Archangel-vigilante), and given that they show up for a moment at the end of the game, I find it hard to recall who they are. It might be useful to have comments reiterating who they are, but that would be adding more text to a chapter which is already quite text-heavy before any serious action begins.

In general, there were a couple of large sections of text throughout, and I got the feeling that apart from the planning, there wasn’t that much in the way of choices (which may be due to the time and text between choices rather than the actual number). As I mentioned before the investigation scene in the FBI route was novel, but it was also some player agency, being able to achieve something. The Cicero raid has some of that, but the rest is build-up. Afterwards, it also felt like the majority of the choices are actions, while the FBI route felt like it had more conversations where the PC could say things and react to things.

On the one hand, I would prefer a bit more conversation in the Archangel route. But, I do think the FBI route is somewhat better served by having more conversation than the Archangel route – a different approach to things, not to mention new characters to adjust to. Probably a matter of balance between actions, choices, speech and text in the Archangel route?

The Archangel route feels like it’s much more build-uppy than the FBI route. I also feel the Archangel route had more polish, but that the FBI route grabbed my attention a bit more despite that. Still, I very much look forward to the big bank heist, which seems to be setup to become a big set-piece battle. The cliffhanger at the end of course sets up all sorts of speculation and was quite unexpected.

I find the dichotomy between the Archangel and FBI routes quite interesting too, with the Archangel PC having an illusion of safety and getting kidnapped (?) while the FBI PC is concerned for their safety but sleeps fine. I think the Church raid will be more difficult than the Big Bank raid, interestingly enough, because of the claustrophobic nature of the catacombs.

On the section starting “So what’s security like?”, there’s a lot of X asks, Y asks etc. It’s not a major thing, but a bit more variety would make it flow better.

You don’t have any of your firearms on you right now, but you do have telescoping baton. But as you look to Gabriel, hand on your telescoping baton, he shakes his head in disapproval.

You turn to Michael, hand on your telescoping baton, and you see him nod his head in approval.

This seems a bit clunky, mainly how the name of the melee weapon is repeated so many times.

Suggestions: Save import system should be improved, such as we can’t select which skills we’ve improved and give info about certain Archangel members to FBI. For example, I decided to lie about Mouse but otherwise filled others info correctly. But in game I have to choose for all people.

We should be able to change something about our imported save, for example Lets say in my save Mouse died, but I should be able to make it so its imported as she is in coma.

FBI gameplay:
Bugs: The part where we investigate 4 Outfit members death, you can do same investigstions again and again.

I have no idea why i can’t choose first option (and excuse me for not putting into spoiler as I failed to do so.)

Will be updated.

So, I have played until the part where we kind of “found” where our “lord and savior” is. I’m only suggesting you to play first 4 games of Metal Gear Solid series. If you don’t have time to, let me explain. First 3 game had retconned and added so many stuff Hideo Kojima were forced to make fourth game entirely justify these retcons. It has more cutscenes than gameplay, with last cutscene being more tha 1 hour. I’m afraid Breach goes the same path. A lot of new gangs, Father being much more stronger etc. It all makes stuff much more complicated when adds little to nothing to story. I don’t know what you have in mind, but if it contiunes like that you’ll have a VERY hard time figuring out how to justify newly added stuff in third game. Take this as an advice more that crictsim or something like that. In any case, I wish you luck and I hope I can see the day that I nuke Archangel as FBI.

Suprised to see so much FBI supporters knew there would have been some but more than expected was expecting overwhelming support for the trio also Rook and Bishop

No I support Outfit but author said to me it’s not going to happen in book so yeah

Where is that achievement and relationship guide again? I can’t find it. Would someone kindly be able to repost that so I can actually book market this time if possible?

here it is :^)

I’d rather support a Mob Boss like the Don than the Archangels. Chicago was fine till the Archangels came along.

Wow someone who shares similar feelings to me! TBH I prefer Outfit to both Archangels and FBI. One of them harms Chicago more than Outfit desipte being “good guys”, other one is bended over to pretty much everything. Sorry but Outfit is good of three bad options for me.

Once I took the FBI route my opinion towards the Archangels changed. They’re fucking terrorists and I’m surprised the US government hasnt cracked down on them. Vamcorp perhaps?

yep one of the reason why archangels haven’t got caught

With what’s going on with Chicago I doubt Vamcorp would want to work with them anymore?

Its probably because main trio did big favor for VAMcorp that we’ll probably learn on third game

nah fitrah agreed to help raphael bringing down the archangel because she was bored and looking forward to see something new
