=OOOO HOW. COOL. I’m so excited to see that!
No, but seriously; that’s such a kind comment. Thank you so much ;v; I actually teared up a bit.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying playing as a rat! It’s been cathartic in a way to write that route; it’s like writing the story I always wanted Brian Jacques to tell.
Some folks like @Konoi and @Schrodinger have been interested in visualizing their MCs, and I wanted to point out that Hero Forge has a custom Ratfolk you can play with for others who don’t have time/don’t want to draw. (I’m seriously on pins and needles to see folks’ drawings, though! …But no pressure! Agh; please don’t be put under pressure; I know that feel xD)
Sadly, no chipmunk, dormouse, squirrel, etc. on Hero Forge, but should work pretty well for rat and mouse MCs!
Here’s one I made for fun -
Oh, that’s neat!
I don’t use ressources like that for my designs since I’m fortunate enough to be an artist, but I may play around with it for the fun, for some other projects. Thanks!
It’s suuuper excellent for making quick tabletop characters, like when I’m running or playing in a spur-of-the-moment game (I think that’s what it’s originally for, so I feel silly saying so, but xD;)
Thanks for tagging me! I will def check this out now.
I already love your game, and the added last choice was so funny
“Ah yes a prophecy… they make me puke”
Also this made me want to replay dnd now…
Aww yayuh!
Yeah, that choice made me giggle too - it’s the first time I see such an option offered in a situation like that.
Hey, I was wondering if it would be possible to show the stats screen from the beginning. I’m a bit of a min maxer, it’s just how I enjoy things, and not having access to the stats right away makes that really difficult.
If this has already been addressed my apologies, I haven’t read the entire thread.
Maybe I could show the skills and Tenet stats without showing the rest before it’s set? I’ll give it a shot!
This is updated!
However, I’m also working on moving the stats into fairmath and making sure everything has an equal amount of chance to get chosen, and that hasn’t yet been updated, so there’s not quite as much stat movement in this demo as I’d like. I hope you enjoy what’s there for now, though!
Thank you so much! I will play it ASAP
Heeey! I’m FINALLY done with my ref!
It took forever and it’s just a colored sketch, but oh well… Dealing with artblock is hard
Aaanyway!
Casual clothes because there was no real need to draw his layfolk garb. Maybe some other time!
I’d say he generally prefers light or pastel colors for his clothes, when it’s possible, since well… some folk are already scared or prejudiced because of him being a rat and all of that. Wearing soft colors is a way to balance that a bit.
I was tempted by jewelry, but let’s be real - he’d think other folk may truly be in need, lacking even the more basic clothing, so he wouldn’t wear such accessories just for fashion.
Your Owain is absolutely fantastic.
I’ve never seen such a dapper rat!
Also the way you draw these animal faces; wow! The nose curve; the front view; the ear shape… <3 <3 <3
This has absolutely made my day. I love this soooo so much!
It’s also a fantastic piece of background; the gentler pastel colors, etc… I feel like I know him.
Aww, I’m glad you like him so much!
I really enjoy drawing rodents, and the setting fits my style, so that at least made it easier!
If I haven’t updated by Monday, give me a strong kick.
For real though, I forgot to email myself my local files and I’m away from home at job training til August. This isn’t a disaster, since I can work with what I’ve got on dashingdon, but I don’t have my massive outline and I hadn’t updated to include my new fairmath. I should still have the next scene out for y’all soon!
I’m so pleased and happy at the amount of support I’ve gotten; I had no idea if people would like this thing, and everyone has been so kind and helpful. I love Bracken Fell, and I’m glad others are enjoying it as well.
I never got into the secrets of Nimh or that particular kind of animal-society story when I was younger, so I wasn’t expecting to become as invested in this as I did! This was fascinating and a ton of fun! So even without a previous point of reference for this story, or without nostalgia, it was still very enjoyable. It’s written in such a way that the society, rules, hierarchy, etc was made very easy to understand, while also feeling like I’d returned home, in a sense. Like sometimes when you read a story with a whole new type of society it can be like, alienating or exciting (sometimes overwhelming depending on how they handle the exposition), but this one felt very comfortable, if that makes sense, while still having a sense of wonder. Can’t wait to see where the story goes from here!
Oh, that’s wonderful!!! I’m so glad to hear that, because I did wonder what people with no frame of reference would think of it. Your words are so kind, and I’m glad you’re sticking with me <3
Let me know if the structure stuff ever starts to feel not-comfortable. I’ve been working on a magic system behind-the-scenes, one the MC won’t wield, but that is more integral to the backstory, if that makes sense? It’s sort of ‘big picture’ magic that will come into play once the main plot ramps up. Ah, basically, I tend to over-plan and I worry it becomes mechanical.
Thank you again. <3
When it comes to outlining your story’s whole plot, there’s no such thing as over-planning. Lots of spare content helps when you feel the need to scrap anything that doesn’t quite fit.
Anything you want a second opinion on, this feedback thread is here to think-tank to victory, and beyond.
This is my very first “choose-your-own-adventure” game and so far, I’ve really enjoyed it! I’ve been enjoying mice/ animal- centric stuff like The Secret of NIMH and Redwall so I was curious about this one. I got hooked with the writing and character. The heartwarming relationship between my character and Friar Douglas (sorry if I got his name wrong) made me tear up a little. Good work!
