Cant wait!
New chapter is out! Fight your next opponent, Danny “The Dragon” Chan, who wears a yellow tracksuit and has a huge fan base! The combat system has been completely overhauled, and a trait system has also been introduced. All details in the first post.
As always, I’d love your feedback. Let me know if there are any bugs, and also these two are what I’m most interested in for this update, in particular:
- Katie! If you’ve visited her twice, how do you feel about her? If you notice anything about her personality or behaviours, what do you think of it?
- Danny! I’d be super interested in your comments on this fight. How does it make you feel?
From my observation of fight against Danny, he is the easiest character to defeat. By difficulty scaling he could be the 1st opponent rather then Eric.
But I suppose, storywise, you know best who and when should they be booked against MC.
By the way, I’ve updated Steve Parker’s look
He looks more adorable now!
Yes, the Danny fight is intended to be extremely easy to win. The player can take a breather after two fairly tough fights.
Yaya Hajime no ippo!
I’ve uploaded the latest version with a new chapter: Chloe ‘Wildcard’ Lee. See the original post.
If you play it, please give me feedback specifically on the Chapter 3 fight against Danny. I’m fairly confident that I hit the tone I want with the other characters, but I’m unsure if this one lands.
Thanks and enjoy!
I don’t know what exactly you’re looking for. Danny feels like fight where he’s there to explore his own basics, and try to show other fighters that there’s more in here than just a win.
I also liked each fight. Chloe was curious, and fun for my intellectual precision style fighter, simply using the time to study and then ending in a win. She’s a nice puzzle, and I like how she keeps unfolding as fight goes. Personally, out of all of those I liked Katie the most, but each fighter is interesting, and there’s simply not enough time to finish with all of them in one playthrough.
Despite the ‘low’ word counter, the game feels longer, and I hope it goes to the full publish because I’d love to have a full experience.
My impression of a fight against Chloe “Wildcard” Lee:
- MC can adjust to opponents’ tactics, but what if they can do the same to his/hers as well?!
- With the best stat not working in certain situation, I was worried that MC’s victory would be wrested out, which thankfully didn’t happen. (MC scored 4th victory).
Suggestions:
- What do you think about adding the relationship stats with opponents, the MC has met? During the visit (should we wish to do so), depending on character, each answer could either improve or disrupt the bond.
- If MC scores enough victories throughout the story - a bonus arc could be unlocked: The Grand Tournament. MC, Opponents and some Star Power Fighters will compete in 2/4/8/16 way tournament to determine the best fighter.
- Team Fight Chapter. Depending on whom MC befriended, he/she can team up with past opponent/s for 2-on-2 or 3-on-3.
- Battle Royal Chapter. Multiple fighters will be participating at once, MC will have to choose whom, when and how to attack.
Question:
- How many Opponents have you planned in total?
Thanks Gapaot! My fault, I wasn’t specific enough. I’m referring specifically to the “stopped time” part in the middle of the fight. Did that feel like it fit? Or, did it feel like it was some kind of weird out-of-place thing?
Hey BlackNick! There is already relationship stats being tracked invisibly. It will basically determine how far you can go with each person. For most characters, there is a ‘gate’ in the middle, usually around scene 5 or scene 6. If you have enough friendship with them, then you can go to the end of their story. If not, then you will stop the story there.
Currently the characters are up to scene 4 for Eric, scene 3 for Katie, and scene 1 for Danny.
There won’t be any team fights because it’s difficult to write. Instead, the next chapter will introduce a plot change, and then afterwards, you’ll be able to ask characters to be your second. They will be able to provide stat bonuses and advice between rounds.
Around 6-8 more opponents. However, these opponents will be fight only — there won’t be a detailed storyline like for the four existing characters. This story will hopefully top out at around 150k-200k words!
It was no more strange than energy thingy from the first fight. Weird? Yes. But it fit, thought I’d say maybe instead of full stop do the massive slowness and the feel of ‘talking’ with the bodies and the eyes as you and Danny watch each other? Like some kind of zen state or something?
Thanks! Now that we’ve introduced all the main characters, I’ve also updated the original post. It now talks in more detail about the four characters that you can get to know. Three of them are ROs.
I have to ask, do all stat combos work with each other? I’ve been trying for Precise + Stamina, and it didn’t work half of the time, and it only felt like precision part, with the fast strikes and dodges, worked out.
English is not my first language, and I’m not into boxing, so if there’s a way to make it clearer which strikes check which stats, and which stat duo combos work, I would appreciate it.
The stats checked depend on the situation as well as the moves you use. Some examples
- flurry generally uses a mix of power and technique.
- jab is usually technique + one other stat, depending on the opponent. For example, Katie is technique + mental
- ultimate is usually power + one other stat.
The proportions used by each stat also change depending on the situation. I’m considering having a “stats mode on” that you could set from the character page. It would show you which stats were checked, but only after you chose the option. I think in most situations you can roughly tell which stats are being checked.
Might tone down the Danny fight a bit in the next version. Feels a bit too mysterious/ritualistic/mythic right now. Still thinking.
Okay, pushed a tiny update that streamlines the Danny fight, and minor improvements to the Katie fight. No need to replay if you’ve played the latest chapter — the changes are minor and mostly adjust tone issues, there are no structural changes at all.
I love it. But there is something I must confess. What I think about is Katie… damn. I think I never felt so much connection with a fictional character in any kind of media and for that, I must say congrats, like really.
Thank you Iukan, really happy to hear that you connect with Katie so much! I try to write everyone with care and heart.
Some random cover art I made for fun. Probably not the best for consistency, even with the paint filter.

Wow, I love it!! This is amazing! You previously made one with these boxing gloves: https://pixabay.com/vectors/boxing-gloves-boxing-fight-fighting-159920/
I really like the boxing gloves. How hard would it be to replace the boxer guy with the boxing gloves, keeping everything else the same? I would use that as the new cover art, I think it looks great.
Should be doable. No pressure at all, but tag me on your thread once you finish your next major update, and I’ll see if it can be done and posted here.
