Beast Within (WIP)

@Storm I had a dream similar to that and I was riding it screaming “death to phonies”

@Ninjasplaycardgames2 The way I see it, I can get all the coding sorted out for the Primals now rather than have to update every single chapter I’ve done if I focused on the story rather than the structure. I have completed all of the main Primals and Hybrids that I wished to have to begin with, and therefore I can begin production of the rest of the game/storylines. Really, I would love to get my Open World System complete and working before I even continue writing. However, I have realised that there hasn’t been an update to the actual story since I posted the first link. For that, I apologise, but I have been working hard on the coding first.

I’ve decided that now I have the time to continue working on this project (I’ve not done anything in the past week and a half! :open_mouth: ) I shall finalise Part 2 of Chapter 1, then do the full Chapter 1 for Hybrids, and then Chapter 2 for all races. Hopefully this should be done before my Mock Exams on the 24th March. This will also be at a point where the game should understand and have a decent enough idea of what the player’s MC is like, and so the story should kick in there and then.

@817819 What would you recommend trimming down? The number of Hybrids? Primals? Playable Species in general? Personally, I am content with the current number as the vast variety keeps my interest going; when I’m tired of writing for Tiger players, I can just jump onto the Wolf side of the story. I find that, for me, it works well. But I would love to have feedback on this so I can consider improving the system.

@Storm As amazingly creative as that sounds, I am not going to even think about falling into complicated gene splicing like that. The Hybrids available are enough once I’ve added the new Primals to the selection and Legendary Beasts are not going to be…well, messed with. They will remain unique to their own Special Species. *shudders*

@darkstar2101 That is one crazy dream! I’ll give it that despite the mount sounding horrifying!

And finally, onto a little news update. If you have played through the game in the past 20 or so hours, you’ll have probably noticed that my Test Files were accidently uploaded to Dropbox, making the game playable. I have face-palmed myself numerous times, and can say that those who have played the next chapter… DID YOU NOT READ MY EXCLUSIVE WARNINGS? xD

Yeah, should be sorted now, but if you did get a sneak peak then hopefully you bumped into my manual errors that I placed into the files - just in case something stupid like this did happen! I’m glad I am so pre-cautious when it comes to things like this.

Also, as a second final point, I’m hoping to update the Prologue of the Prologue a little bit. By that I mean the Prologue that is playable despite it being the Prologue of the Prologue of the game, but meh! You understand, don’t you? Anyway, I’ll be giving it a little update variables wise, just for something you’ll see later.

Now, enough of my rambling again. I’ll try to get things running smoothly soon and I a am sorry for those who have either lost interest or are simply bored of waiting. That’s just life I suppose

@BlazedStorm Good luck, me and a couple of my friends are going to try and code a full on game using C# so i will check back in a few weeks

@jtoomer Good luck to you too!

Just a quick notice: Part 2 of C1 should have been added yesterday night, but unfortunately it is being postponed due to some trouble with weapon ranking. I’m also updating the combat system to make it more dynamic and fluid.

Expect it either tomorrow night or Tuesday at the latest. Sorry again!

On the upside, I have the time to implement more tactical and unique weapons for Primals, like: Retractable Stomach Blades and Scorpion Tail Spikes. Great for sticky situations, right? Haha…Am I the only one who thought they were cool? XD

What exactly will the combat stats be and how will you choice of primal affect your combat abilities?

There will be the average 5 main base stats and then a whole host of hidden ones that affect how you use weapons, your experience and abilities with different types and variations of weapons and how effective these are against different enemy types and combat situations.

Although I will not go into full detail on the hidden ones, I’ll explain all the main ones.
The five are Strength, Agility, Magic, Stealth and Sense. Just the basic necessities for a fantasy really. These will change depending on your Primal. E.g. Cheetahs will naturally have more agility, Rhino more strength, Canines will have good sense, simple stuff like that.

It then goes further with the variety of weapons. One handed weapons are available to Humans and some Primals, whereas two handed are for Humans only and Specialised Primal Equipment are designed for specific species. Most of the weapons in these groups are unique and work differently in certain circumstances. I won’t go into that though.

Each weapon has rankings which increase the players effectiveness with that weapon, as well as opening up some other combat options. If you want a strong tactical advantage, you might consider spending time to train in two opposite weapon types. E.g. Train with a strong weapon and increase your strength as a main attribute, but also consider training with a counter type weapon like the Stomach Blade, just in case you are pinned down or disarmed.

Your strength stat will change your combat style the most as it increases damage output, you know the normal stuff like that. Your agility and stealth both rely on your weapon skills too, but lean more towards daggers and that sort.

Magic is based off a similar method, except different types of magic are used instead of weapons. Sense can dramatically help with perception and awareness and is dependable on your species.

That’s a brief explanation of how I am using the 5 main stats. For the others, it would be a lot easier to explain by seeing it in play rather than me typing it.

I think that to be honest it is one of those things where you understand it more and realise why it’s useful when you are actually using it in combat. Hope I answered the question, but I feel like I didn’t.

Explosion magic maybe??

Nope. I’ve sorted the magical elements out already that can be possibly learnt in the upcoming chapters, so any other magic would either be forbidden and the player discovers it, or taught by certain characters later on in the game.

Also, after coding the first weapon and it’s training, it comes to nearly 700 lines of code. Heck, if I don’t condense that then i’m going to be having fun tomorrow with the other thirty odd weapons! XD Haha. Any ways, i’m done for today. Night.

Triple post?! Curse you laggy phone of doom! Curse you…and your friends the spoon!

I’ll take this post to ask, what do you think your story will end up being? I know it’s a strange question, but you probably won’t expect a few of the plots coming your way…

Also, what race is everyone playing as? I would like to know which species are popular and why

I have no idea where the game will turn out, but I usually play as a dog or wolf primal

I’m playing as Chimera hands down

I play as human also sorry if it was asked but what abilities will humans have

I play as human also sorry if it was asked but what abilities will humans have

Chimera cuz chimera seems to me might have some funny dialogue

THIS-IS-SPARTA! (Spartan kick)

@Natsu_Dragneel Humans can wield two handed weapons, are naturally better with magic and can use Ultima Magic. It will all be explained in the next part of chapter 1.

@Darkstar2101 That is the way i’m hoping to flesh the Chimera dialogue out

Also, another question. Would you rather the Ultima Magic be set randomly our through choice?
