August 2023 Writer Support Thread

Here we are at month’s end.

I ended up following my inspiration and worked on the second goal exclusively… which is okay, because when inspired, I need to ride it for everything that it is worth. More on that shortly.

For this goal, I opened a new “working file”, archiving my old file, both as back up and for emergency use (if I need to revert to the old copy for any reason)

I also set up the needed prompts for my first big change for improvement based on received feedback.

This is the goal I worked on most this month. I wrote about 35,000 words (in total, not just this month) for this chapter so far, and the average play through for it is 20,000 spread out over three paths,

While I did not finish mapping the entire chapter, I did reach a spot where I feel comfortable putting it down to focus on my feedback changes for the common route.

The main reason why this goal ended up being my focus this month is because I felt inspired with the progress of the story and followed it.

If I try to ignore such, I found that I will lose the inspiration, often not able to get it back later.

This delays my plans to release a public beta, but on the other hand it means more of the dock route is completed earlier than expected.

I’ll be opening September’s support thread later tomorrow.

So, I did manage to complete all my August goals, but in a way, it also feels like I didn’t.

It’s strange, I physically did complete them, yet I feel empty inside. I don’t have that same dopamine release I used to upon finishing a monthly goal. I suspect it’s due to the fact that I’ve felt rather dead in general during August and spent most days laying on my bed staring at the ceiling.

It feels weird, I dislike it…

I’m hoping that September will be a breath of fresh air, and that I’ve just been caught in summer blues, because at this point all I can do is hope that the reason is that mild.

Hope you’ve all had a good month!

August was mostly successful. My goal was to keep up with beta testing, and I did well (especially with family stuff all through the month.)

I feel like I’ve fallen a little behind the last couple of days. Last big weekend of holidays, so that’s okay.

Unfortunately, work gets busy now, so September will be trickier.

See you in the September thread.
