I’ve never abandoned it, but with the small amount of activity on the thread and me having a rather inconsistent schedule due to some personal and professional stuff it didn’t make sense to reopen it until this point. I do plan to turn that around now so fingers crossed.
So does the fairy healing ability only work on others or can the mc heal themself too?
The way Lifegiver works as an ability is through manipulating and transferring mana between living organisms and healing is done by increasing the amount of mana within the thing/person you want to heal to accelerate natural healing processes. So it’s possible to use that ability to heal yourself, but you’d need to use another living thing to pull extra mana from, be it a person or some kind of plant.
Your characters are wonderful. You can tell they aren’t 2D cut out RO “fill-ins”. I love how they are separate full rounded characters with own agenda and story.
(Edit: sorry, Only ever played Formica route, and now realised after playing one of the other routes that you get the next 2 points when choosing form. So it balances out. Apologies.)
I might’ve done so somewhere else, but don’t believe I did here. This was done to balance out their main racial ability “Master of masks” that gives them a small stat bonus depending on what race is their mask at the time. That bonus just happens to equal 2 points which means you still start with 12. Below is the in game explanation of this ability and which race gives what bonuses:
Hope this helps
Edit:
No need to apologize, I appreciate the question (and compliment of course). Especially since seeing replies sets me at ease about the fact that despite visible traffic there’s little engagement which triggers the little gremlin at the back of my brain telling me something’s really wrong.
I can understand it might be hard. Readers are in their own little worlds, their behaviour affected by unknown factors from their own lives, their response has no bearing on the value of your work. It’s hard to value your own work, but maybe you need to learn to do this. It’s a valuable piece of work in itself in a vacuum separated from an audience.
….tho admittedly easy for me to say this, I only consume content , not Im creating it.
So a kind of vampiric ability. But one thing is confusing, what do the demons look like? Are they covered entirely in scales and have horns?
They’re not fully covered. They have some residual scales in a few places, predominantly the back and legs but it’s somewhat similar to how we have body hair. It’s something leftover from their evolutionary ancestors. They don’t have horns either but they do have long and thin tails.
So they look like humans except the tail? What about fairies? Do they have wings or do they just look like humans but the elf ears?
They’re (Humans, Demons, Fairies and Dwarves actually) all different races of the same humanoid species with a common ancestor that diverged in appearance and culture due to the climate of where they lived before the decay and events of the game. They all neighbored each other around the eastern part of the continent but:
- The demonic kingdom stretched primarily across the hot and unforgiving deserts similar to those of Northern Africa. That is why their skins are darker shades of brown and black with hints of red. For the same reason they’re also naturally leaner in terms of body fat which they have a harder time gaining compared to muscle mass. They also have much sharper facial features and are a bit shorter on average (5’5"). Their tails and scales are mostly vestigial at this point, with scales formerly serving the minor purpose of shielding from heat.
- The fairy tribes lived in the humid forests that could be compared to a milder version of our world’s Southeast Asia. They’re tanned with softer more triangular faces and yes, long ears. They are the tallest of the four (6’1" on average) but also the thinnest because back in the old times what strength they needed they could just borrow from nature which they grew overly reliant upon.
- Humans settled in the mildly dry mediterranian climates. They don’t differ much from how you would imagine someone typically living around the Aegean Sea (countries like Greece and Turkey are good examples).
- Dwarves lived to the north in a mountainous region with a temperate climate. They don’t live exclusively underground, but their biggest cities were carved into the mountains which is why their skins are the palest and can be compared to how we imagine a typically Caucasian person’s skin. They have round features and almost exclusively lighter colored hair and eyes. They tend to be stockier in build with higher body fat percentages simply due to how much value they put in both work and family with regular feasts still being part of their culture. They’re also the shortest (4’11") as that was seen as more practical due to their tightly packed living arrangements and therefore desirable (so essentially the opposite of how we see taller people as more desirable, which leads to us getting taller over the generations).
The other “races” are actually a separate species with more significant differences in biology that lived in more faraway parts of the continent before the decay started forcing everyone into sharing what’s left of the livable world. It’s why there are no Demis born of relations between for example a human and vampire or werewolf and lizardman.
This is mostly info from the codex I have planned, but so far didn’t fully include in the game. Naturally people are free to imagine their detective and other characters in whatever way they desire as that is what books and interactive fiction is about, but in the canon there are specific traits inherent to each race which came about in the same way racial diversity came to be in our world, except with the addition of magic and all that.
Welp, here I go over explaining things again. Either way hope this helps.
So who’s the poor Polish analog?
Hello @CavusRex ! I’m a little confused here. Is the demo supposed to end after being introduced to our demon partner and questioning him?
It’s just in the past there was more content with meeting the forensic and etc. Is it a rewritten version of the demo?
Hi, no it isn’t. What you’re describing is where the prologue and character creation ends, after that there’s like 85 thousand words of content. Which demo link are you using because anything other than the one quoted below can be an old outdated build. Either that or something didn’t load as just after the scene you’re describing the game jumps to a new file.
I’ll double check a few things in a bit when I get home from work.
I clicked on the COG games link from the main post above I think. Let me try again.
Edit: it’s the same. Demo ends after talking to that demon partner. Don’t know why. I have registered at COG Public Games to have saves. And loaded the new saves.

It’s not bad, like the story and the idea, just the stat system sucks.
What’s wrong with it?
In what sense does it suck? Is it too complicated, too hard/easy or is it unintuitive to interact with it?
Well, I just feel like you could easily mess up a hole run with the way it is built, but that might be my own fault and not the system honestly. lol I did restart like 3 times just to get a right build going.
That’s always possible, but should be hard to do as unless you’re leveling all stats equally there will rarely be a crucial check you can’t pass, but also there’s no need to pass every check as most fails might cause you to miss out on some side content or secret endings at worst.
There will be ways to get an early bad end in a few places starting from act 2, but they’ll be rather obvious and require you to fail continuously. As long as the player levels up some stats they should be fine in reaching some kind of a good ending even without making use of their other abilities. Especially since by the end of the game you’ll have enough XP to get 2 stats to their max regardless of race.
Of course if you encounter a check that you believe you should’ve passed, but didn’t, feel free to post about here or in my Discord or just DM me. Gameplay stuff and difficulty is where I’m most interested in terms of feedback right after the obvious grammar and spelling stuff.
Lastly if you’re ever confused there’s a dedicated section to gameplay and stats in the Codex which you can find under your stats. It explains all important variables and also how the check system works.
I can only go hangout with Paoli or take a stroll. Are the other hangouts greyed out for a reason?
