Aesemyr: The Withering (WIP) [Updated 16 November 2024 - chapter 3]

Nice to see a new update

Hope you’ve enjoyed it :slightly_smiling_face:

If you are talking about the choice at the end of chapter 2 (where you choose how to find the elves) leading to the same outcome, it’s simply because the other path is not yet written. So for now, both the choices redirect you to the same thing. That will, of course, not be the case in the future.

Or do you mean in general, not a specific choice?

I loved everything about the update but I’m worried for our dear brother  I hope he soon wakes up and hopefully not as corrupted than before his accident.

Oh he’s going to be just fine, don’t worry

Just going to ask…is there going to be a route where we can destroy the kingdom and kill all the main characters?

I mean when you pretty much give ā€œDo this or dieā€, just dont bother having the option in the first place

I wouldn’t call it a route, but there will definitely be some branching towards the end. Some of those branches might have some unfortunate events happening.

Thanks for clarifying. To be honest, those choices are probably not going to make it to the final version.

Thank you for the kind words, as always

I haven’t denied working with the others yet, but if it is very black and white, I think one game that did a really good job at pushing the readers towards the plot and ā€œpunishingā€ them for avoiding it was Shepherds of Haven. I found it fun to deny Blade and the crew and see what happens–which was an amusing bad end–pretty sure you unlock an achievement too.

If you wish to try that too, you would just have to make sure to code in sending the payer back to their character before they said no and blank out the option, that way people don’t get fed up with replaying on the actual finished game without saves.

I actually like that there are two endings for not following the game’s path, one where the twins get a happy life after fleeing the land and one where the MC is executed by the King’s order. They both make sense imo, though I am partial to the more optimistic ā€œdead-endā€ as I can see a story there too, where both the twins go through a different kind of journey separate from the main story (very tempted to make a fanfic of this ā€œdead-endā€ path )

I guess I could do that, shouldn’t be too hard to code. Actually, I think I might go and do exactly that with the demo. Still not sure if those choices will end up in the finished version. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I kind of liked the idea of those different endings as well, which is why I wrote them. Now, however… Well, I haven’t deleted them yet :joy:

Also, if you ever write that fanfic, do let me know! Would love to read it

Just to make you aware, Dashingdon hosting will be closing soon so I would recommend moving this to cogdemos or uploading a compiled html file:

Hello!

Just a quick note to say that the links have been updated and you can now play the demo on both cogdemos and itch!
