Should he, though? Forlorn trusts Aki very much. He knows she wouldn’t do something he has told her not to, so even if your MC is some scheming bastard trying to get her to fall to your wiles, she knows better than to go against what he’s told her.
… Right?
As I said though, the Akimancer MC will be able to bring ber up to him when I do some extra additions to the chapter, not to worry.
I also essentially have his ‘chat about dating’ planned out in its entirety, and I think that’ll serve to offer an extra layer to their relationship.
Ah, Dio. If you saw things from Seeker’s POV, his last ‘win’ was quite a few years ago.
Very short note, as I’m still in the middle of the update, but it regards the red flags we were talking about earlier - at the moment I think the reader is sufficiently warned. I mean, the doomed RO looks doomed, feels doomed, and speaks in doomish. And then there is Lat. The only thing she didn’t do was waving a very big yellow DANGER sign. I felt sufficiently informed that at the moment my relationship choices aren’t the best
It’s kinda nice tho that the nice creator of this piece of art will let lat heal our hearts after the inevitable(and absolutely our own fault) destruction of it, hope she doesn’t feel like a second dish tho
We have been theorizing a lot that Lat might actually be evil and as such so its probably a reference to it.
Maybe add a Person’s of Importance Section in Stats for people who aren’t hero, Keep Mars there, and a few more recurring cast, Like perhaps Gloria, Stratton, etc, maybe about some important Senator. Also Consider adding a reference Section which will have some Information, Like Revolutionary and Liberation Party’s ideology, and as such Maybe a few Alt Facts.
Yes, that is… on purpose, though not entirely. You’ll note Mars makes it pretty clear he and the League live in rather different environments, and he is, most assuredly, not a hero. That is not his job. He is a bodyguard and nothing more.
My plan, or at least idea so far is that his profile will be added (it is already written, actually), when, or rather, if he ends up becoming a hero.
And with the way things are going… that may not end up being his choice.
Of course, I also understand it can be a tad jarring for a main cast member to not have a profile yet, so I’m also considering the possibility of adding it to the game as is without the extra fanfare. I guess it’d depend on what you guys all think?
Well another thing him and my mc will have in common then.
Which makes me wonder does Mars have a creepy subconscious split personality too…or is that just the mc and Lat?
You can do both…let me explain that. For the moment you could just put his profile up without fanfare and additional condition, since this is just a beta test after all. Then later, when the story has progressed far enough switch it around to “organic” mode if and/or when he formally becomes a hero.
Just the MC and Lat! The reason for that is still a ways away from being revealed, but trust me, it’s very important, and sets the two of you aside from basically everyone in the cast, and yet… Well, I wouldn’t want to spoil.
I like both these ideas!
I’ll add Mars to the hero profiles proper, but I’ll also work on a “People of Importance” page, since that’s also rather helpful. It’ll include Gloria, Stratton, your reporting friend Ms. Bridges, the Coltello family heads, and possibly ‘V’, who you haven’t met, but is probably important.
Nnnooo, don’t make my beloved Lat evil
Theory time: It seems like it should have something to do with the King. Are we the King reborn? We got our powers at the same time as an earthquake with no hints before hand… Something is up
Think about it, She knows when we have a dream, she knows we had an encounter with alt MC in the shower, we never told her it was in the shower, and I seriously doubt the Alt MC and Alt Lat coordinate appearances.
The controller, now gagged, and handcuffed with ‘power-dampening’ cuffs, is no longer a threat. Her control over the people disappeared the moment she had pain inflicted on her as her powers apparently need a lot of concentration…
Or so Seeker and Forlorn say, anyway, as they stand beside your sitting down self, discussing the situation while Ignis and Mars coordinate with the Emergency Services, the League and the President’s spokesperson pledging to take on the bills of whoever has been hurt.
Here Seeker and Forlorn assume mind control needs and a lot of concentration.
If Lat is evil she could have been mind controlling people.
Not to poke holes in the theory, or attack it in any way (who knows, it might actually… be correct???), but does Lat ever mention your apparition being in the shower?
@Jeeshadow1 You’re correct! The earthquake is connected to the MC’s powers, though likely not in the way you expect.
Alright this WIP is excellent and I shall watch its career with great interest. The romances are splendid thus far (Aki #1) and the specter of the Broken King is full of chilling Big Bad potential…a being that old, that powerful, and that broken would be an anomaly in the history of even this world, and something different than a regular human in a profoundly mystical and eldritch way. At least that’s the vibe I’m getting.
I’m very big on American politics and so the opportunity to interact with the American political system is welcome. I suspect, through long experience, that my political proclivities are quite out of step with the significant majority of CoG Forum regulars, and with regard to this game the pattern seems to hold. Were I to be in the MC’s place I wouldn’t be as wary of Maxwell as many seem to be, and I hope we get to see more of Maia because I honestly haven’t a clue what she really stands for. Stratton was aggravating but I’m all in for Gloria right now, and to be honest I would love it if Gloria was just played straight - a good man and a good President, albeit with some friction here and there. Of course, if he turns out to be a bad guy it will make a good story just the same…though I hope he’s a smoother villain than Stratton. It would be great if there were choices and flavor text that permitted the MC to indicate that they were somewhat friendly to a closer League-government relationship, but that would probably mess with relationships in-game and those mechanics could be quite hairy so if it’s not there I’ll enjoy it anyway. My MC is not me and does not need to be
Also, if Stratton is out of action for long enough the party would probably move to nominate Gloria since we appear to be in the primaries stage of the election cycle. They might do it anyway since Stratton is clearly a feckless idiot who will risk national security and state secrets in order to Own The League…his polling has to be in the septic tank right now. That said, Gloria could decline if he wants to keep goodwill with Stratton or conversely pull an LBJ…decline to run for reelection on the grounds that you are committing yourself fully to dealing with a present exigency. In LBJ’s case it was to burnish his legacy, in Gloria’s it would probably be to build up a rep as a nonstandard politician/good man in a storm, which would help in his own future electoral prospects.
On another note, whenever we interacted with Gloria in the hotel, I always got the feeling that the US President was just wandering around the hotel on his own carrying papers, and that kind of broke my immersion. The Secret Service can overrule any of their principals, including the President, in questions of their personal security, and there’s no way in hell they’ll let them wander around a hotel in a foreign country on their own…US Presidents can barely even wander around the White House on their own.
Well I don’t think so…unless the Liberation party is substantially different than the current Republican party with Trump they would probably nominate a more Stratton adjacent candidate than Gloria seems to be and they may well need to in order to placate and turn out their own base.
From what I have seen he does seem to want to bring the League into the military that probably means much more morally dubious orders and a much more spartan standard of living. Also due to the super powered laws already in existence getting kicked out of the League under new management. Say due to declining a morally dubious order would then open you up to immediately be scooped up as a lab-rat, as is made abundantly clear in the prologue.
Granted we don’t know the details of both party’s ideologies yet…and how or when they came to replace the Dems and Reps we know and dislike. But, again, from what I gather the Revolutionary party seems to be the relatively more liberal one and within that party Maia seems more tolerant and likely progressive than Maxwell…making her the best or at in any case the least bad candidate for my mc to vote for.
That said it can be worse if you choose the student visa background and Maxwell were to succeed at bringing the :League fully into the government then mc would really be forced to serve while completely lacking the franchise and thus any power to make even a minute adjustment.
I think it’s mentioned early on in the chapter that the Secret Service does have the floor alloted to the US under security, but I could make a larger note of it when in the restaurant/meeting with Gloria.
I’m not sure to what degree the Revolutionary and Liberation Parties are intended to mirror the Democratic and Republican Parties. The only issue which we’ve seen Stratton or Maxwell or Maia really talk about, if I’m not mistaken, is the relationship between the League and the government. I’m not inclined to assign ideologies and tendencies to them yet. @Jjcb has stated that Stratton is not meant to be a Trump expy, Furthermore, Stratton’s opinion regarding the League has been stated by @Jjcb to be out of line with American public opinion at this point in the story, so I don’t see how Gloria is substantially different from Stratton save in temperament and with a position that is closer to American public opinion. Seems like a good primary challenger to me. That said, I doubt Stratton will be written out of the story so easily, so its a moot point.
Spartan standard of living, possibly so, but not necessarily: the League could easily coordinate with the Department of Defense without being formally folded into the standard military infrastructure. I also tend to reject approaches which automatically identify the military with moral dubiety. Our alternatives for patronage are our current patron, the US Senate, or a private family, the Coltellos, and I like our current arrangement but we probably stand to benefit in terms of access to information and efficacy with closer association with the military. That said, I do like the idea of the strongest American superhero assets being directly answerable to the Senate; the current arrangement does limit the risk of the League being abused in executive power plays. Good piece of writing there.
