A Tale of Heroes (WIP) - 224k words. Updated 29/01/2025!

Also drones are well, drones. Mars is a person, with the capacity to interpret information and walk around without arousing suspicion as an obvious surveillance device. I do think though that ultimately Mars’ powers being “bad” is intentional, between their limited function and their rather substantial drawbacks. That kinda seems to be the point of Mars to an extent, the ways in which superpowers can kind of fuck someone over.

Yeah, if the BK and BQ are examples of how superpowers separate you from humanity, and Forlorn and Ignis are examples of how having powers doesn’t protect you from trauma, then Mars is an example of how powers can and do end up being a detriment to many people’s lives.

Mars has had a full time job since he was 14. That’s not because he likes Stratton.

Except available evidence proves that I can’t trust Mars to interpret that information, act on it, or both.

Sure, now fit that full drone swarm in space occupied by a single (super)human, and that doesn’t even touch the joy that’d be logistics of operating them indoors.

I found one that works but the link in the 1st post doesn’t work for whatever reason

Sorry, what do you mean? I haven’t changed the link since the last update.

Has there been a problem?

Ah!

Okay, I can fix that real quick then, give me just a moment.

Edit: Fixed! I think. Please let me know if there are other issues.

(This is a subtle reference to how Vegeta isn’t even like in the top five in power rankings)

Well, Forlorn’s position isn’t quite that bad. He’s in the top five of AToH.

His problem’s different, I think. He’s lost his ‘edge’ - he’s no longer fighting in the frontlines of a massive, existential war.

And the real question is if he even wants that edge back. The war was a very bad time for him.

Then again, it would be a bad time for any twelve year old.

Aki’s father didn’t think he’d turn into such a pussy man.

Needs to grow up.

That actually is the main reason for their eventual clash, but not in the way you think.

Aki’s dad focused on his family’s survival by any means necessary.

Omni-Man: “What are you doing Mark? You’re being torn apart.”

“I noticed.”

“You need to stop fighting like you’re on Earth.”

“I don’t kill people.”

“You’re pulling your punches! These people are trying to kill you Mark you have to fight like a Viltrumite!”

“No, I won’t.”

More gently: “Then they’ll kill you Mark and every Flaxxan on this planet. Remember what I told you.”

I once heard the Viltrumies was 100% offense, 0% defense. Makes sense as they’re all glass cannons

Heyo! :waving_hand:

I’m working on the next update, trying to get something out for you all. This one’s definitely going to be longer than the last one, I think. I’m planning to include the first ‘big’ Aki romance scene, it’s one I’ve had in mind since I more or less started actually picturing the ROs in my head.

In the meantime, here’s a couple of screens from some of the scenes, just to show you a little bit of the work:

Snippet #3

Snippet #4

Snippet #5

Gonna keep working on it over the next few days! No promises on when exactly it might be out, but I’ve been feeling pretty confident, so here’s hoping that continues.

(what’s “game film”?)

Bigger than the simple kissing scene in Chapter 4, I can promise that!

Game film is video footage of a team’s performance during a game. It’s typically recorded from multiple angles, such as from the sidelines, endzone or a camera in the stands. Depending on the sport, it is shot from the most advantageous angle to allow coaches the ability to use it for training and team review. These videos can be used to review the team’s performance, identify mistakes, highlight strengths, and plan for future games.
