A Tale of Heroes (WIP) - 224k words. Updated 29/01/2025!

That’s fair but there are other stories that you can rightly say have an issue with making the MC feel powerful. This one isn’t it which people would realise if they played the game, first time we use our strength we send the second strongest hero flying. Then with no training we beat apart another super (and we get to see how impressive our striking of Forlorn is because we see how strong he is) then we repeatedly get more showings of our strength further through the story and we see that while Forlorn and Seeker may be stronger, we are much more well rounded and just better. We don’t have issues like Forlorn has and we aren’t like Seeker basically having to remember how to fight in the middle of a battle. Just because we aren’t the strongest (which it’s been confirmed iirc that we will be like 3rd behind the BK and Ignis by the end of the story) we are more well rounded to the two that are just punch your lights out fighters.

Also like, the MC isn’t inferior??? I guarantee if you put MC up against Ignis or Seeker when they were at a similar level of experience, MC would kick their ass. We have a very strong base, stronger than 99.9999% of the world, we just need a bit of time to learn how to best use it.

You are correct. Most readers want to read something that makes them feel good, or play games that leave them with a feeling of success; but why can’t we extend that same logic to authors who want to tell a story they wish to write?

Thanks to the author’s and several ingame warnings, you never have to play that pathway unless you WANT to. We have a diverse cast of ROs, all but one that lead to fantastic endings. It sucks if she was your favorite, Lord knows she was mine as well, but once you’ve made your displeasure known: either accept the author’s choice or find a different game that meets your need.

Continuing to harass the author and his community is not how you get him to undo his choice. Have a blessed day

If Juan was truly brave, there would be cuckolding in the game.

They objectively are. Their own “future self” makes it painfully obvious with the mental powerpoint graph to illustrate just how large is the gap between MC and the team members the story actually bothers to develop.

It doesn’t matter how weak/strong the other characters used to be (and even that could be dismissed as just coping and wishful thinking, because who is to say they weren’t better even then?) The comparison is done in the present, and against their present power.

This is like saying that Willie Pep is a better boxer than Muhammad Ali. If your first question is “who the fuck is Willie Pep”, that’s my point.

I couldn’t get through this. I just dislike heroes who think doing good things is great & thats all there is to it. No depth, surface level beliefs. EVERY hero story needs inner conflict. Good or evil.

Superman is the greatest hero of all time for many reasons. Even he isnt immune to darkness. The heroesrise series & the WIP unsupervised understands this.

Correct me if I am wrong I think Mc is not weak they’re however lacking experience

I’d appreciate it if we could focus the conversation on the new content presented instead of continuing to talk about matters that have already been settled and aren’t going to be changed.

It’s a bit random, but I just thought that it would be cool for the MC to be able to play matchmaker for other team members or, in general, see supporting characters get together if they’re not romanced. Specifically, I think it would be cool if we could play matchmaker for Lat and Aki down the line!

I know there was talk of a possible MC/Lat/Aki poly (I don’t know if it’s been confirmed or scrapped), but since I don’t plan on romancing either, I think it would be cool to wing woman for our bestie! As an Ignismancer with no plans to romance anyone else unless Iris sweeps me off my feet, at least one of us needs to score lol.

This is already in the game, sort of. If you aren’t romancing Mars or Nova, you can tease them about one another in Japan which ticks up a variable called ‘maybe’.

Doesn’t even need to be a full-on power fantasy, just having the MC do something more meaningfull than beating up a unimpressive villain that appeared out of nowhere is enough. Getting to do something cool in the future maybe-who-knows is not great incentive, especially if you’ll never get to be stronger than some members of the Wish/.com Justice League. (Damn, It actually linked Wish, weird)

I mean, you DID make it a web address with the .com bit.

The MC does plenty of cool and meaningful things in Japan. Including:

  1. Soloing multiple giant Mecha.

  2. Snapping Forlon out of his berserker-frenzy.

  3. Brute forcing your way through a legion of the aforementioned giant Mecha to set off an EMP and end the invasion.

Anyway, thank-you kind author for sharing those snippets with us. It seems like the MC is getting a handle on controlling their battle bloodlust. :+1:

Speaking of which, would you be willing to consider giving us the option to repeat the “Choo Choo Motherfucker” line prior to/during the event described in #4 above? I kinda want that to be my bull-headed MC’s catchphrase.

I mean, same.

If they’re actually compatible as a couple without MC beyond the gentle nudge of “but what if?” I could see wanting to play that out on the side. Neither of them necessarily have a preference against it, since they’re both available as ROs for f!MCs, but they may just see each other as “friends-only!” if MC doesn’t bond with them as a throuple. That being said, the Nova×Mars couple is also an available polymance for MC.

The only reason I don’t see it working that great is dependent upon how a reader might be playing things. My own MC for the duration of book 1, especially.

He has the unfortunate tendency to attract Lat by not setting other flirt/romance flags with any of the book 1 romances, thus triggering the Mall hangout scene during the Okinawa trip. There’s not really a way to “avoid” it without hurt feelings on Lat’s part, even if you do go just to talk things through. Trying to set her up with Aki right after would feel more than a little insensitive, and I can’t say recommending Aki as a “bounce-back” is particularly nice to two characters who–more than just being teammates–should be friends to each other, and MC.

Those are my only misgivings about it, though. I’m all for it otherwise.

The mc is not the chosen one in a prophecy so we don’t need to be overpowered. Besides the mc got their power a while ago. The mc is just taking baby steps getting better since apparently this is going to be a series in the future cos that’s what the author said

The game literally has MC’s future self or whatever tell them they need to promptly get better than the most powerful people on the planet because Terrible Thing Is Coming.

Why would a person be urged to become the most powerful being on the planet if they’re only supposed to play a minor role? In any case, i was responding to your claim how MC doesn’t need to be overpowered when the game itself literally tells them that yes, they do.

Doesn’t mean the mc will have to a massive part of it. Just we play a minor role

We literally have a whole team but the mc hasn’t said anything yet but it’s understandable considering how crazy it would sound. You just missed the point of my original post which is the mc doesn’t need to be ultra powerful right now because there would no point to story.
