Sorry for the disappearance for a couple days, but I have been reading through the thread, and there are a couple things I would like to bring up/comment on:
First, remember that at the end of the day, the League is very much a social club, despite all its ‘official’ trappings. It’s a clique of friends who can get along and enjoy spending time together, despite first appearances. The cast likes everyone else, and that’s kind of an important dynamic that they care for- see what everyone’s opinion is on Dark Star, who was a relatively uncooperative/strict member: nobody has positive things to say about him, and his continues presence is due to governmental pressure than anything else.
You can kind of see how the team dynamic works, despite first appearances. Forlorn comes off as gruff and abrasive at first, but he’s not unbearable to the rest of the team, even when Nova insists on giving him shit. Likewise, Seeker is… well, Seeker, but he is still helpful to everyone else, and does treat everyone at the very least in a polite manner.
To be a part of the team requires you to at least try to get along with everyone else, or else the League just… won’t want to deal with you. Remember that from their pov, they are doing the MC a favor- and while they don’t expect you to necessarily be thrilled, they do expect you to play ball and not be unapproachable.
Second, I’d like to get everyone to reread what the start of the ‘reluctance path’ says in the prologue:
‘They’re not responsible’, I think, but it’s hard to not be pissed. First a mob wants me dead, then the cops try to shoot me, and somehow, my only way out of being punished for their fuck-up is joining a team and slugging it out with a bunch of monsters? The League’s trying to be nice at least, but man, this is some bullshit.
The MC’s annoyance is with the circumstances that lead to their joining, not with the League. This, I’ll admit, is me forcing the MC down a certain line of thought, but it’s meant to allow a cordial treatment of the team as opposed to starting off hostile to the idea of working with them.
The ‘reluctant’ MC is bothered by how the outside world has treated them so far, and that’s where the resentment lies. The League, from their pov, is being relatively accomodating, something that they’re at least cognizant about.
The MC’s problem isn’t with the team, they are canonically willing to play ball. Their issue is with how the world has brought this to happen.
This is kind of why the start of Chapter 4 doesn’t offer a ‘reluctant’ option: the MC is coming to terms with the situation at hand, despite the early resentment.
I saw a couple of other comments, about the plot and some other feedback. I don’t have time atm, but I’ll try to address them by the end of the day.
As always, thanks for reading the story! I’m glad you’ve given it a chance.
