A Tale of Heroes (WIP) - 224k words. Updated 29/01/2025!

Well speak for your mc, mine meanwhile seems to be able to win even more than I though possible with the Mars and Nova poly.
@Jjcb what kind of poly is it going to be is everybody into each other, or are both boys just into the mc?

As a russian, this phrase is worded awkwardly and bit wrong in grammar.
I take it, the meaning was supposed to be ā€œThat’s an order! Your mentee commands you!ā€ right?

In that case, phrase has to be made including gender of the mentee and slightly different wording. Keeping the same meaning, this’ll be:
(for male): ā€œŠŃ‚Š¾ приказ! ŠÆ ŠæŃ€ŠøŠŗŠ°Š·Ń‹Š²Š°ŃŽ как твой поГопечный!ā€
(for female): ā€œŠŃ‚Š¾ приказ! ŠÆ ŠæŃ€ŠøŠŗŠ°Š·Ń‹Š²Š°ŃŽ как Ń‚Š²Š¾Ń ŠæŠ¾Š“Š¾ŠæŠµŃ‡Š½Š°Ń!ā€

But the structure overall still would be weird, so to make it sound how russian would say it would be:
(for male): ā€œŠÆ ŠæŃ€ŠøŠŗŠ°Š·Ń‹Š²Š°ŃŽ! Как твой поГопечный!ā€
(for female): ā€œŠÆ ŠæŃ€ŠøŠŗŠ°Š·Ń‹Š²Š°ŃŽ! Как Ń‚Š²Š¾Ń ŠæŠ¾Š“Š¾ŠæŠµŃ‡Š½Š°Ń!ā€

which translates to ā€œThat’s an order! I’m saying that as your mentee!ā€ and would be a way this is worded organically.

Just my 2 cents.

Everyone is into everyone, or at least that’s my current idea. It’s the same case with Aki and Lat.

My original conception of the Nova-Mars relationship was actually some sort of FWB, and you can sorta see this in the mutual teasing that they have going on in Chapter 4 (though they’re not fwb in the current iterations).

That said, I wouldn’t be getting on the cart just yet. I do have basically all the plot for Book 2 set up, but there’s a lot of character stuff that’s still sorta blurry and not set in stone yet. The only really ā€˜big’ events character wise that I can confirm will be in Book 2 will be Aki’s big switch, Forlorn’s heavy struggle with depression, and Victoria trying to ā€˜rewire’ the way she and Seeker work.

Yeah, this is on purpose! Aki isn’t actually talking in Russian, she’s speaking her own native language. The problem is that the MC’s brain gets all screwy when hearing it because they don’t recognize it, so they try to cope by bringing it closer to something else- which still sounds wrong.

You can kind of see this hinted at as the scene moves on, the voices in the MC’s head state that ā€œyou heard it wrong!ā€.

The phrase in English is meant to be: ā€œThat is an order! Your ward commands you!ā€, but due to the unknown language, the MC’s attempt to bridge the gap, and then the screaming voices, it gets super garbled.

metatextualer?

An enjoyer of the metatextual pov

yup the question in my mind whenever I am in this story. Though I still think that many of the ignis-romancers (me & prolly u included) are still gonna read this IF, because the story is awesome ( even though sometimes the mc is… not MC? makes sense? no?). I guess we will just have to make our heart of stone and avoid any ignis interaction.

My heart cant take it :confounded:

To be fair, the MC is still fairly new to the whole superhero scene. It’s been like what? Maybe 2 months from the prologue to chapter 5? So I can understand why you’d feel as if the MC isn’t even the MC of the story when the story so far seems to be heavily centered around Ignis and Seeker (even their romance takes forefront of the story in Japan and the Presidental dinner thing)

But I do think that’s going to be pushed aside later on when the big threat finally shows their face and it’ll be up to MC and Lat to deal with it since they both have their Other Thems that no one else knows about. There has to be a good reason why the Other One is pushing the MC to be stronger than both Forlorn and Seeker who are supposedly the top two strongest in the world. Even Forlorn admits to the MC that he thinks Seeker isn’t fighting at 100% because he can’t do it.

@Jjcb do any of the League embrace a public facing queer identity? I know Ignis is canon bisexual, and the rest are more ambiguously playersexual, but do you see any of them going to Pride, doing activism, etc? Or just being open about it in general?

Also happy Pride Month etc etc.

My mc would certainly do so if and when given an opportunity to drop the mask. Not having to use the mask also means he can start dressing in his own style more as there is no longer a need to be generic enough, like there is now with the mask forced on. I think Nova and Mars are also bi, as is Lat as she can be into a female and male mc, although she could be straight and just mc-sexual for a female mc, I suppose.

Would be cool if either Nova or Mars turn out to be male preferring bisexual, Nova seems to be at least, though that might be me reading too much into it.

So, quick note: Besides Ignis, Nova is also canonically bisexual, and while I can’t confirm if he’ll be a RO yet, (and I’m not 100% set on this second part), chances are Forlorn is either completely gay, or at least severely male-preferring.

As to your question, yes and no. Ignis does a lot to support and donate to the movement and such, but she’s not… open about her sexuality, and she doesn’t really show up to the events, mostly because she fears the backlash pretty severely.

Nova is less bothered by possible backlash, so while he’s not spending his whole day at a parade or anything like that, he’s definitely passing by, taking pictures with some of the participants, posting slogans, that sort of thing.

Mars… can’t get time off for these sort of events, but he does wear LGBTQ+ pins pretty often.

Forlorn finds the level of the conversation about LGBTQIA+ rights (NOT the movement, just their current status in American/Western society) to be seriously backwards, and while he doesn’t normally entertain reporters or anything like that, you can bet he’d deliver some serious heat if anyone asked him about the matter, deriding everyone against them.

Funnily, Dark Star is actually pretty supportive of Pride himself. He supported the repeal of ā€˜Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’, and has been caught on camera at least one time saying that the whole ban on trans people serving is incredibly stupid.

Seeker, of course, supports the movement and donates and offers protection and everything else, but it’s a little more abstract for him, since Seeker’s sexuality/gender orientation is basically just a sign pointing at Victoria/Ignis and no other human being that has, does, or will ever exist.

What about Lat and Aki

Is/was Stratton cool with this? They don’t seem like the type.

Lat would kick massive ass at a Pride march, regardless of whatever her orientation was. Life of the party wherever she went.

Aki’s a little similar to Forlorn, in the sense that she finds the USA backwards, and unlike Forlorn is slightly more outspoken about it. ā€œThese divisions and exclusions you people insist upon are really dumbā€ is a statement she’s made more than once.

He wasn’t, because he found it unnecessary and tacky.

Then someone implied he ā€œneeded to get better security than a [slur] and asked why the President of the United States would willingly hang out with these peoples.ā€

And for all of the massive, massive, massive amount of flaws that Stratton has, he’s got twenty times the amount of loyalty that someone like Gloria or any other politician currently in the running has, as long as he feels it’s reciprocated.

Cue a massive donation that dwarfed Ignis’s from his own personal fortune, statements to the press and everyone willing to listen that he ā€˜prefers a single LGBT+ vote over a hundred bigoted ones’, and an honest to god appearance at the Stonewall National Monument where he insisted on raising the rainbow flag himself.

Hey, just a quick note, I’ve finally gotten some downtime and done a few bugfixes and added the missing stuff of the chapters currently out! Done a few slight rewrites, too (yes, including the option to wear a dress to the dinner in Chapter 2 :stuck_out_tongue:), though I’ll get into that when the update is out.

Luckily, this is my midterm week, so I have a lot of somewhat free time to spend however I wish. I’ll be uploading the fix by the end of the week, or Sunday at the latest, and as an extra treat, I’ll give you a bit of the skeleton for Chapter 6 (mostly code, not really text to play through yet).

EDIT: Oh, to be clear, one of the big rewrites here is going to be related to the Ignis RO scene in Chapter 4. The ā€˜intense make-out session’ didn’t really fit with my view of Ignis, and, ngl, actually makes me a little uncomfortable, so I’ve changed that to be a bit more in line with how the romance and Ignis are in my mind.

Here’s a little show of one of the options:

*if charm > 60

You’ve known Ignis for a good while now, you think. She has her secrets, you suppose this conversation has shown that, but you know that, at least with the League, she tends to wear her emotions on her sleeve.

She’s most definitely not doing that now.

And still you can’t shake the feeling that she sounds relieved.
