Thank you Choices. I am really proud of Green and I hope this game pans out the way I have planned. As always, things get trickier when the paths split but I know the community will help keep me on track if I mishandle something.
Cheers

This game has potential as the last game, Since this is the early stage, I have no ideas to give on improving the game. My ideas only consist of path improvements, story improvements, QoL Improvements, Path-To-Story Synergy, New Item Ideas. Basically, my ideas consist of a combination of Open-World RPG, Telltale-like Games (Other CYOA), and Adventure Games.
Welcome back Patrick, happy to see you playing this new adventure. If you have any ideas/feedback, at any time, Iād be happy to hear it.
Though I have a general outline of the narrative, much of the game has to be conjured from a blank canvas- unlike Green where 80%+ was all mapped out.
The next two or three updates need to set a firm foundation. It will be very important to get these to work. If I can nail the next few updates, with certain systems I have yet to introduce, then I will be hopeful that this game could be a success.
As you say, it is still very early but I am ecstatic with the support and general reception so far.
This like Kroghammer Fantasy when the timeline is closer to the End Times
Haha! Well, we are now in a time of social upheaval, a time when the races of Behatland feel capable of taming the world. Perhaps they are overconfident. Hubris is always followed by nemesisā¦
James,
You are prolific! Canāt believe youāve already got another story in the works with ugj still waiting to be published. I love your work and I canāt wait to read this one too!
I understand itās 1000 years later and the orcish empire must have fallen for the story to progress, but it would be very cool if we could carry forward some things, particularly religion if you spread Krog worship
Hi Vernon,
Great to see you in this forum for another of my projects. When I was finishing off Green, I had another story buzzing around, pestering my thoughts. Also, I got into a set routine with writing- I must say I felt a bit lost for a few weeks when going about regular life. Habits are hard to break but good habits are a bit easier. Thought it best to leap right back on the wagon.
I completely understand the issues with a canon start. Many will share your view. I have left things vague enough to allow a player to insert their exploits into the past if they became the emperor in the previous game. Indeed, there might be Krog shrines on most street corners in Grandardgard- but they go without thought or comment since they are part of the social, daily milieu.
The complications of carrying over a world state, with a huge amount of variables, which would have little effect other than additional inserts of flavour text would, almost certainly, be detrimental to completing this project. I would love to be able to join this to Green, and a possible future third game, in a grand historical arc where every choice carries over. It is a dream! But I have to know my limitations and prioritise the new narrative to make a secure foundation from which I can build this game.
This game is a continuation of one version of history. There is the possibility of making new stories/games based on other endings. In this fantasy world, who can say how the gods/goddesses mess with time and history to make us all misremember, to move towards some grand or nefarious purpose?
Haha, lots of words. Basically, I needed a firm starting point. I hope you, and others, can understand the reasoning for this. If people let me know about certain things (easter eggs?) from their time as the Green Emperor, Iād be happy to find a way to insert some sort of reference. I may just add a smattering of Krog Shrines to Grandardgard in a moment and players can make of them what they will- But you will know!
Always happy to hear your thoughts.
Cheers,
Completely understand. At most Iād be looking for some flavor text, rather than carrying over every variable.
For example, the Roman Empire collapsed 1500 years ago in Western Europe, but it has had a massive impact on religion, law, and language to this day. So, in the game, it would be things like mentioning people speaking a descendant of an orcish-human derived creole language - plus orcish concepts becoming parts of everyday vocabulary just like Caesar is in English, worshipping Krog, and some mention of the laws codified in the reign of the first orcish emperor if you achieved a powerful empire or spread the religion. Maybe a mention of your orc in a play or a book of history/adventurers.
If thatās too much work with the company given theyāre particular with storing save games, I understand. But it would be very cool to have some of that flavor in the world.
You also could do it with just a handful choices up front in this game and make clear that it will affect some of the lore / flavor only. āDid you play unexpectedly green journey?ā If yes: āDid you slay a dragonā āDid you create an orcish empireā āDid you spread the worship of Krogā etc.
Great ideas, Roche.
Orcs being orcs, they might be likely to subsume the culture of others (bit like the Mongols and China) than impose their own traditions- which, until the Green Emperor, were tribal, without a deep understanding of codified laws and such. In my mind, the orcs were not colonists but *mostly) occupiers- we can say this was definitely the case with the later emperors (of the as-yet, unwritten history of the Orc Empire).
But the orcs were the catalyst of great changes, breaking the human Empire and giving rise to a mistrust of the notion of āempireā itself, the fall of the old imperial Pantheon for more centred worship of the Mother, the city of Krogās Rock itself. They cut back the Netherwood, which fundamentally changed the elvesā conception of themselves, and attempted to clear the Jagged Divide of abominations. Indeed, with the scouring of threats throughout Behatland, after the fall of the Orc Empire, the continent had far fewer dark, unexplored corners. The orcs left the continent questioning its gods and the use of magic which, after many cycles of progress and regression, gave the impetus for technological advance.
The Orc Empire is the key event in why the world now looks as it does, though this is not necessarily reflected in the characters we have met. For the Roachpedes, the world is as it is and daily commonalities are not of note. We may know of the legacy of Rome, but much of the population carries on without this knowledge. Perhaps I should introduce a historian-type character or a library with, as you suggest, history books. I do like the idea of plays too!
I had previously thought about your idea of adding options at the start of the game. This is something doable- my concerns here are it would draw focus to events unacknowledged from the previous game (like the shaman and demon paths). This will be something I consider, though not for the next update but maybe the one after that.
There might be some artful way I can do this. It might not necessarily be too complex to add a few extra variables for flavour⦠I 100% agree it would be very cool. It would be what I want, as a player, though my fragile mind quakes at the thought of loads of new variables!!!
Watch this space. Youāve given me lots of food for thought. This is the start of the journey and there are many miles to travel. I will definitely take these ideas into account.
Cheers!
EDIT: I havenāt even begun to look into how saves are held and imported between games yet. It sounds like a big job! If this were a direct sequel, I would definitely consider this option.
The benefit of holding a game that takes place 1000 years after the end of the last one means youāre really donāt need to compensate; yes, thereās a lot of variables to cover, but thereās also not very much work because all you need is the occasional flavor text here and there
I agree that I could find a way to manage it relatively efficiently. If it is something I do, with a few optional extra choices at the start, I might look into putting it into the update after the next one. The next update will be focused on firmly establishing the foundations of the early game.
I am considering this carefully though I am unable to say anything for sure, yet. I need to focus on each ājobā one at a time to keep momentum or lose my thread. It is certainly something that would validate past players and that thought is very satisfying.
Like I said, it is something I, as a player, would like, though manageability is something I need to consider.
I already have it as a brainworm now, so letās see where it goes!
You Sire, are the GOAT. A Million-word Game and then a 66k Word first demo.
I wouldnāt worry about this much. Particularly the demon path since the consequences of that path would not be compatible with this subsequent story at all. Itād be like complaining that a sequel didnāt acknowledge an āI blew up the world endingā
As for the shaman, that could also be a religion / history flavor. Like the shaman could be referenced as a prophet, Saint, or reformer, etc
Thanks Sahil! I can only accept the GOAT title after four successful games, one for each letter, so right now I am at best a G!
Seriously though, I appreciate the support and hope this game will live up to my, and the forumās and playersā, expectations.
You have got me really considering it now. I donāt like to make promises in regards to unplanned additional content, but this has value. Maybe, in a couple of updates time, something might be added to acknowledge the legacy of your Great Green Emperors!
It would be cool if people had like green tattoos or clothing styles that resemble the orcs!
This sound very appropriate- with the whims of fashion, old orc styles could well be integrated into peopleās appearance. with tattoos, piercings and clothes in general. I could see this being a trend among the lower classes, perhaps the criminal element as orc stuff is, usually, based on looking mean. Though the snooty upper echelons may not be as receptive to the trappings of folks who came from The Plains.
Will add this to my notes and see about adding things like this in the update after next, when I will decide if we incorporate a few minor options for former emperors.
Cheers,
I donāt know if this has been asked yet but in relation to the magic you can use as an elf what are its limitations? Can you become a wizard or are you limited to a certain type of magic?
If you become a chancermancer, your magic is focused around a taint of demon in your lineage. You have the gift of summoning the goads of fate and fortune, the boggarts, to influence events- this tie into your stealthy background.
You are not a standard wizard of learning but one of instinct with a limited set of abilities. At least to begin withā¦
That sounds really interesting, and thank you for answering my question! I canāt wait to read more!
