A Prophecy Undone (WIP) (10/May: new scene added, 90k words)

@Cingulum_diaboli Well, I won’t spoil, but yes there’ll be heavy angst

@majorpuppeh I’m glad you like her! But there’s a reason she’s red … and her romance route is also quite a ride!

If things turned out differently, I genuinely feel we would have a happy ending.”

This! This is what I aim to convey in one of the endings.

@Isi_Talks Thank you! To be fair, cousin thinks the heir is supposed to act arrogantly lol. I was worried that I made them too tame, but it seems that concern is unfounded.

@Darkside @AdmiralLynx89 Should be fixed! Thank you for the tip.

@E_RedMark Aw, another I & D fan here! Don’t worry, I promise I’ll make it even harder to choose :smiling_imp:

I’ll hold you to that!

So, I have a Question about this here:

Summary

You paused. A dark, calculating voice murmured in your mind, its words honey-sweet: this is your chance. This is your chance to be queen. This is your chance to kill your cousin and take back what is yours.

As the Crowned Princess, Candace would have to lead her men to war. And what could be a better chance to kill her than on the battlefield? A missed swing; a stray arrow; a dagger hurled in the wrong direction.

But Ateus roared at those dark thoughts. You mustn’t do that! The God of Light bellowed, his voice thunderous. You are the example of Istegar. You should not dishonour yourself!

I thought Ateus would be…y’know? Don’t want me to kill my enemy. Instead, he want me to do that? Urgh. Stupid Gods…can’t make up their freaking minds.

Hmm, maybe I did not phrase it clearly. They don’t consider your cousin to be an enemy, because your cousin is technically their follower and your blood kin. But they have no problem killing wolf worshippers.

so clearly if I wanna be a goody-two-shoes, Ateus isn’t the right path?

I wanna unite the Land, including the wolfs! or do I have to go to Skyrim to do that?

Aw, you even made a map! Remind me of old BG2 game.

whine I’m a mad mad Princess…why can’t these peoples choose for themselves where we are going? I could get us Lost and end up in the Underdark…kissing Dark priestess Boots for all you know!

Sigh…can that happen?

Technically, there is no “ideal” path here, because every god is to a degree, flawed. Ateus is just less so compared to the rest - he genuinely cares about his followers.

You can still do good in his path! He’ll sulk, that’s for sure, but he’ll give you some leniency. As long as you don’t do things like praising Ulfric, you should be fine.

To unite the land is possible, but there will be a great cost and the path is very difficult to walk. You might end up doing something not that “honourable” xD

As someone who kissed the Dark Priestess in BG2, I’m all for doing that :smiling_imp:

And you do get a dark priestess to kiss here. I’m just not implementing her route for the Ateus-allied and non-allied MC yet, because I have not figured out a clean way to code it.

honorable? like what? Cleaning breaches?

Ewww

Still, better than kissing Bodhie.

Btw, any chance of Mc+Blade+D? come on! You already Sinned once!

any chance of Mc+Blade+D?

If only I could figure out how to code the poly route, sigh. I did leave a way for it to happen in my plan, but I don’t know how to implement it.

kissed the Dark Priestess in BG2

To be honest, I am torn between her and Jaheira, but it was an evil plathrough so I took Vic instead.

Edit: Thank you! I will take a look.

Urgh…Unbelievable!

So, if I turn Ateus, he goes and hides in the sniffling brat cousin? I pity the fool!

Oy Vey!

Why is Desmond so invested? I have spoken to him literally twice, and at the end he’s acting like I broke his heart or something because I chose the god that didn’t fail me and isn’t letting corruption spread because he can’t be bothered to care. (In fact, given his dim view of the Northmen’s king, it seems that the wolf is actively trying to get rid of corrupting influences.)

@E_RedMark Yep, I set that up so you can kill them as a wolf’s follower.

@AnneWest The wolf just wants to get people away from Ateus. If you dismantle the church, Ateus will lose significant number of followers, corrupt or not.

I might need to tweak D’s scene. D is acting that way because they are a genuinely good and empathetic person, and kind of naive. I thought I hinted at it when D’s first reaction to seeing Dalton’s true nature was to redeem him. It also makes it easier for MC to manipulate them - maybe kill them in the end. Anyway I am looking into this and try finding a better way to express it.

“It’s quite alright,” you grinned, propping yourself up. “I do not mind landing on a handsome man at all.”

Desmonda isn’t a man, so that’s a mistake.

And I got a weird loop thing- I was at the point where I just defeated Desmonda in a spar, checked the stats page, and suddenly I’m back to just after I killed Mori.

Should be fixed!

The loop might be because I updated the scene just now …?

It’s way too much and will drive people like me away. “If I wanted a child, I’d have one” is the kind of feeling people like that give me. He’s too malleable to do anyone any good, if he’s that prone to inflicting his emotions and hopes onto other people’s assumed wants and desires. Particularly the assumed wants and desires of people he barely knows. It’s reading like a little girl with a crush on a celebrity, honestly. There’s a lot of playing pretend going on in his head about who you are, what you want, how he can “guide” you to the right path and glory, and what your “true” purpose is. None of it takes into account your actual wants and needs and opinions and he completely ignores the one thing that he shouldn’t, particularly in light of his god doing nothing to protect his chosen or his priesthood; did anyone ever check what they were told by Ateus?

But I don’t want to kill him. Fanaticism leading to zealotry, if he goes that route will lose the more moderate people, invite the profiteers and delude the lesser zealots. On the other hand, people following a religious leader visibly and obviously losing his faith and just going through the motions will lead to disillusionment, hucksterism, and again, invite in the profiteers. I’d rather watch the church of Ateus eat itself alive from the inside out without my having to be actively involved. Because when I turn on the battlefield, if I was involved, that could very well revivify them making any effort of mine to drain the church of its followers counterproductive. And with the church behind the war, and behind a princess who’s never really even bothered to try at anything…when the tables turn that’ll be a morale disaster for the people at home. Faith is fragile. And that little bobble with the crown of light will not be far from people’s minds when things start going wrong.

Ah, I get what you mean.

Particularly the assumed wants and desires of people he barely knows.

Yes, that is what I intended to be their character flaws, and I know it would drive some people away. That’s why I put some manipulation option there.

When the tables turn that’ll be a morale disaster for the people at home.

I think I will add an option for an ulfric-allied MC to do nothing regarding the church, but the ‘eruption’ would probably not happen until it is very late in the game.

But I don’t want to kill him.

And an option to delude D without killing them, although there still might be some sort of confrontation in the final fight scene.

Edit: I’ve added the choices in!

are you saying that if we don’t accept Ateus, we are by default a Wolf follower? Ew…how is that better???

You know, I’m surprised that Ateus jump in your degenerate cry-baby cousin, instead of D. Is he blind or something?

No, but if you follow the wolf, you will confront your cousin in the final fight. But if you are non-allied, there is a chance to not fight them.

I’m surprised that Ateus jump in your degenerate cry-baby cousin, instead of D. Is he blind or something?

OK this is heavy spoiler, but your cousin is related to you. Ateus survived when L stabbed their avatar is because of your presence - a blood relative of Elric. So by the same logic, he can transfer himself to your cousin. Besides, your cousin is defintely a better choice than your uncle.

but he is a God. Shouldn’t a God not be limited by Blood Lines? and I didn’t say he should jump in the drunk (Though would that count as forced Detox? lol).

D has everything. She is brave, she has faith…she is cute like hell (Did anyone tell him that?)…

Oh, wait…nope. I take it back. Let him reside in the bobblehead!

Good. Cause, I want the ‘forge my own way’ path. Kick everyone into uniting. Kill those backstabbers…and sit on the throne. Fuck the Gods, fuck the chosen one…where is my ale?

Shouldn’t a God not be limited by Blood Lines?

He normally isn’t if L did not stab him and weaken his power. So, your cousin is like the only choice for him now.

I want the ‘forge my own way’ path.

I think the non-allied path is for you, then! But it is a difficult one to walk, and starts really slow. I will endeavour to make it rewarding!

This is only my idea but if atreus didn’t want any of the wolf followers alive then why mcs father let the others live when they conquered their castle? Call me paranoid but i think that atreus left our father to die since he didn’t want to kill the others and was assured that he would have other champions like us, our cusin or uncle.
