Gaah, finally played the update!
I was literally stalling the whole day because I was terrified of what was to come, and then I stalled even more by replaying the entirety of the demo (not just skipping) AND Sunblind because why the heck not.
But in the end, I couldn’t stall anymore and eeeh…
I think now I'll stall talking about my opinions by starting with the bugs?
In Leon's scene during freetime, after the encampement mission:
When the woman who tried to hit on him is gone, the last choice of the scene gives these options:
Really, there’s no point with this guy. Just drop the issue.
is cluelessness is worrisome. Attempt to explain the situation.
The first one lowers optimistic, but apparently it does so only for the general stat, and does not impact the separate pre-resurrection stat counter. The other option seems fine.
Second person instead of first in choice options:
In the flashback where Eli sacrifices himself, the second option in the last non-combat choice: “You’ll never submit to this evil. Make a stand, be it your last or otherwise.”
When asking Tahlia about the phantasma: “There’s no need to interrupt her—you’re sure she’s getting there”
In the cell with Leon:
This text will be hiddenInsisting on innocence when facing Leon in the cell still leads to a “Charming” up. Bringing it up since you said previously it made sense to change it for Charisma - though I still think simply removing it could make sense too!
At least it doesn’t throw my entire built off balance since at that point, with the new choices etc, the personality stats end up way more defined.
Sunblind still has a small error with Intrigue:
Remember when I reported the choice that was supposed to raise charisma instead affected intrigue? Well, now the right stat is affected and it reflects in the text, but on the stat screen it still lists “vigilant” as the last word.
Okay, I think I really CAN’T continue stalling, eh?
Well, I’ll start with saying I adore the bigger array of choices, and more than anything, I love the new choices in the cell, if romancing Leon, and when talking with Ilya. Of course, with Leon’s romantic choice, I had my heart broken all over again… but it was sooo goood
As for the “true new content” well, what can I say?
Of course it was great, that’s a sensible start to what I want to say.
With that being said, weeell… Coding that part where MC faces their “old self”, and everything they were is listed must have been a logistical nightmare of matching stats with each other and putting all of that into prose without screwing up the coding, I admire it! And well, that part was AWESOME to begin with! It’s really interesting how MC can change entirely… or not at all, like my Leith
But I have to say… Choosing between forgiveness and joy as for the sentiment about the resurrection was SO HARD!
I ended up going for joy but really, I think it’s the song I have for Leith that made the scales tip towards that more than anything else.
Now… well, color me surprised, as even I didn’t expect that, but my sweet sweet Leith IS actually capable of hostility towards people who didn’t hurt him or people he cares about directly, like his sister did.
Before knowing how things will unfold and only being able to logically deduce who are the people who saved him, I thought Leith would act like the true pacifist he is and try to find a peaceful solution that would reconcile the two sides of the conflict…
Buuuut… that was BEFORE he realized he’s a prisonner to a bunch of arcadian mages who plan on destroying the kingdom he loves and kill the person he cares about the most… basically everything he lives for and also the things he’d gladly die for again. So as much as he’s elated to be alive again, and despite the feeling of gratitude, he’s now dead set on opposing Arcadia with all of his might at the first opportunity.
Now, obviously, learning about Eli being alive was a big shock, and saving him takes precedence over anything else for the moment, and he still needs to make sure if that danger Thalia was talking about is or isn’t more than just a way to keep him obedient. But when that’s done, well, there’s no way he won’t try everything he can to escape his jailors and rejoin his kingdom. Especially considering the one who can heal him is Eli anyway, not Thalia.
So yeeeaaah… I guess the second part of the cast managed to bring the more combattive and hostile aspects from the very depths of Leith’s heart? Congratulations???
Well I mean, there is only so much one can accept, and even the softest person would react to someone openly saying him they plan on destroying his kingdom and loved ones, right? I don’t think he’d be cruel towards them if they are not cruel towards him but still… they ARE the enemy, that is not open for debate…
I seriously didn’t expect things to turn that way…
Again, dear author, you are a master of bringing the wildest emotions out of the players AND their MCs!
And on a meta aspect, I guess I’m a bit sad now, cause as much as I love Falco, Leith more or less hates him now, and Thalia even more
Yusuha gets a pass because he doesn’t want to murder Leon and Saine and seems to be softer, at least as far as first impressions go, of course.
It is also a general huge departure from how I play these games as a whole. I do tend to like the “pacifist routes”, which means I’ll always try to get the endings with a general peace outcome. It is both because I love True Happy Endings, especially if the game was emotionally harsh - and also as a challenge since it’s usually more difficult than siding with one side or the other of a conflict.
But surprisingly, in this case, I have as little doubt as Leith about the situation, despite me liking the characters from the “opposite side”.
PS: sorry for all the edits to my post - not only I forgot to mention a bunch of things at first, but I also did a ton of typos I have only been noticing in intervals one after another, and thus I had to correct them separately
After changing the prison scene with Leon (when he is a romantic interest), I don’t want to be angry with him anymore. Something like " The hell with you. Burned me and burned. At least a positive sediment remained".
Haha)
I was reading the update while waiting for my order to arrive and that scene… That scene almost makes me bawling my eyes out if it not for the public place I’m currently at. The update is sofreakin good! Can’t wait for the next update!!
I was already thinking about switching to Eli’s side, but then I reread the updated demo and just…“Weeeell, Stirlitz has never been so close to failure”
Played through once so far with a “good guy” type persona, enjoyed the demo. I really like the White Fang interactions pre and post war. I really, really enjoyed the prison scene.
I definitely do not see myself working with Thalia more than I’m forced to. I’m playing a good person, but honestly she seems just as bad as Sister was, given ya know she hired her. Part of me was just like “might as well remove that opinion meter fam I do not care what her or her little friends think of me.” I don’t really like any of the new group tbh, maybe Yurui? Though given that she essentially worked with someone like Sister, puts her on the sus list too.
I do wish there was something to make the Arcadians seem more likable, because otherwise even if I was playing something of a Bastard I wouldn’t side with them, just because they’re kinda elitist jerks, but I’ll have to see how it plays out.
Considering how F has been toward MC the moment they woke and that attitude of theirs (along with a particular shot they tried to fire at MC that involves a certain someone), I can see why the character has manage to trigger Leith’s ire.
Kote has no particular liking toward Flyss himself right now; she just kind of embodies all the reasons Kote is often not fond of those who come from nobility; arrogance, lack of respect to other regardless of origins, thinking their position instantly puts them in the right, etc. When Flyss tried to fire a shot at how his former loyalty toward Leon and the kingdom got rewarded with death in the end , Kote was quick to counter shoot right back that the execution at least only happened once (though in a harsh enough way that Kote holds no loyalty to Leon currently) while the torture he went through at the hands of the madman obsessed with Arcadia (in a way not so different from the group’s own obsession) was much more prolonged, especially with Sister’s actions. He actually found the way the group tried to justify how things played out rather lacking to say the least (wish there was a option to respond to their excuses with “and how does that REALLY make you any different from Thaubal Altinier?”). I think the nature of Kote’s relationship with Flyss can be summed up with in this banter:
Kote: FLYSS, I GOT A MESSAGE! TAHLIA WANTS TO MEET YOU IN THE BREAK ROOM DOWN THE RIGHT HALL AT THE LEFT STAIRCASE ON THE 10 FLOOR DISCUSS THAT THING THAT WAS BROUGHT UP LAST NIGHT ABOUT-
Flyss: I’m standing right in front of you.
Kote: Just making sure you can hear me on that high horse of yours.
Basically, Kote gonna have some fun pulling her off that horse and into the mud until she learns some manners.
The leader doesn’t have as much of Kote’s hostilities at the moment, but there’s absolutely no trust there and he doesn’t agree with her mentality on how things should be handled. He’ll work with her to a extent, but he’ll be handling things his way, regardless of her disapproval and nothing the leader has said so far has swayed the Enchantment mage to her cause (if anything, it has just pushed him more away).
Yurui has gotten a pass from Kote, though not without some suspicion. Yes, she is the most bearable one to interact with and at least seems open to approaching the group’s goals in a different way. However, she is still a member of the group, which leaves Kote with more questions than answers.
It may happen a little later, but yeah it would be nice to see what the better side to the Arcadians looks like.
I don’t think the mc will ever experience that, they’re not nobility they are a disposable tool and a slave to them.
One that will gradually become less and less powerful and thus more useless to them as we go along due to the four incompatible parasites the mc was forcibly bonded with slowly draining him of life and magic. Which is again why my mc doesn’t want them to have Eli do to him what they want Eli to do to him as I doubt it would do more than treat symptoms, not the cause which is being bonded to those four magical parasites, which seems to be irreversible. Once he has no more or not enough magic left…well it seems like the non mages may have been slaves in old Arcadia, so not a fate to look forward to.
Yeah, my MC thinks more or less the same. They didn’t attack him so far so he doesn’t try to attack them, not to mention he still needs to warn Leon about that new menace, so yeah, he can’t be brash. But he’s clearly unhappy about the situation.
On an IRL level, I quite enjoy the situation - as in, I find it very interesting to have the MC basically stuck among enemies, with no true way of escaping for now. It’s especially interesting with soft, gentle and nice MC’s I assume. One with a more punchy attitude may feel less bad.
Yeah, I agree? We only just met them, so unless you specifically like or dislike one of the types of characters, as a player, that would allow you to have an opinion from the get go, we really don’t know enough about them. Falco is an archetype I like, for example, while for the others, I find them interesting, but I don’t have strong feelings yet.
Now, for obvious reasons, my MC dislikes them.
With that being said, he CAN change his opinion a bit, but they’ll still remain the enemy, that won’t change (excluding truces for a bigger good, if applicable).
Yeah, not much of a surprise here!
Though he does hate Tahlia even more considering she’s the ringmaster there.
I chose the same option for that choice, yeah. It really made sense.
And I do agree that the possibility to comment on their “excuses” would have been nice, though I also understand MC would want to remain cautious. Let’s not forget they’re all alone in a nest of vipers. Being surrounded by enemies is not an easy situation to be in.
Though… @Parivir, I would love to have the opportunity for an outburst when F say what they say about Leon (and well, Tahlia’s explanations about that too). Obviously, it wouldn’t be possible to do so as part of the narrative since at that point the players haven’t established the full extent of MC’s opinions on what happened, but as an additional choice…
I mean, for an emotional MC, and one who’s still loyal to Param and still likes (or loves, like mine) Leon, I can hardly imagine a lack of a more heated response, EVEN when trying to be cautious. I mean, the dude/girl threatens the love of their life, for MCs like mine! And not only that, but they all see Leon, Saine and the rest of their kingdom as some sort of dirt under their feet.
While I don’t share your opinions about the part you put under spoilers, I DO agree with the quoted part of your message, to an extent (which is already more than usual considering how rarely we agree with each other )
Leith DOES consider he’s a prisoner, and there’s no saying if he won’t “upgrade” that opinion to “slave” later on. Basically, when he actually starts “working” for them.
I hope MC will get some alone time to reflect on that situation at some point.
I do feel a biiiit bad (not really) for Tahlia and co because they basically brought their own doom upon themselves, I guess? In case of a MC like mine who clearly opposes them, well, obviously that will end in conflict, and he WON’T help THEM. What’s more, we know Eli will side with MC whatever MC choses to do, which means in this case he’ll be against the arcadians too. So… they’d bring two of the more powerful beings back to life, only for them BOTH to oppose them
two of the more powerful beings back to life
And this is where we disagree again, my understanding from the most recent update is that while the mc may have once had the most raw power and potential out of himself, sister and eli, it was squandered by the bumbling of his torturer and those four magical parasites have probably already drained him of a good deal of the power he was born with. So, if Eli cannot do anything about the cause, as in the four parasites themselves, my mc is not interested in having Eli mess around with him to merely alleviate some symptoms just so he can become powerless and die a bit more slowly.
Ah, yes a game where I could become either the Fallen Hero or Tragic Hero.
I thought this game will start after the MC burned to death and then skip after get resurrected without a further backstory to make us–readers attached.
But, dang! I was wrong.
An additional of backstory from the start made the story itself getting more TRAGIC and sad … very sad.
My MC play along as the villain even tho they aren’t, it’s become more depressing because my MC romanced with the prince before
