A Mage Reborn, Book Two (WIP) - UPDATED April 5th, 2025 | Book One Released!

You know… when readers don’t care about anyone or any goal in the story up to the point to wish the protagonist stay dead, it’s never a good sign for the story.

I enjoy what’s there so far in book 2 but there are issues. I think the biggest is Tahlia, a character that it is very easy to have a visceral hatred of, has immense power over the MC. Combined with a rather varied way of defining the mage’s thoughts and feelings. A strength in the previous book that helped distract from a mostly railroaded story, now highlights the lack of player agency. And it creates a disconnect between the mage’s internal monologue and their actions.

I think one thing that possibly impacted this negatively was setting the second book so long after the first. If the second book picked up BEFORE the truth of the mage’s actioned happened, and possibly with Sister’s spell still forcing their silence, there would be no way and no reason for the mage to go back to Param, regardless of how they were still feeling towards their previous LI or other friends.

As it is my mage has absolutely no reason to stay with the Arcadians except being forced to it by Tahlia, which poisons their view of all of Arcadia.

Bruh is not that many wish for the mc to stay dead but is more like maybe for book 2, the mc shouldn’t have been the one to come back because is feel like the mc that hates arcadians is just now tagging along with arcadians with the given option to have a unjustified hatred for them, that doesn’t seem like anger but more like a dramatic trauma that leads only to the mc remaining as a captive and also doing they dirty work no matter what this kind of mc is against, morally or involvement of parties involved like they not sibling/ro or the friends/ros in param and the mc that should have been consider for this book, could have been a child or apprentice or even a admirer of the mc that wanted to follow our path or someone that was affected by our decisions or lastly maybe the mc but a part of they soul that starts over again in a different part of the land that follows they own destiny and have to figure out how to deal with the mc’s changes on the world

Are you kidding? If B2 had a new protagonist I wouldn’t even bother with it, everything in B1 would feel meaningless to me if that happened.

UGHHHHH mc is literally doing every dirty work to work against the kingdom that they saved, so yeah bruh everything we did was meaningless, hell even a title means nothing now unless we got the title demon of sienna instead of hero

Not what I meant.

bruh is not what u mean’t I agree but u tell me, a new protagonist and this one we are using what is the difference beside the current mc alligeance is to his enemies/allies and to top it all we are bound to them and the mc that hates acadians is forced to view param as enemies and destroy the work, they put into creating during they time in param

This actually puts me in mind of a separate, other criticism, why did Tahlia bring back my mage at all? Given the choice between a person she knows agrees with her, is fully dedicated to her cause and the only person who could defeat her is dead (Mireil) and a person who willingly laid down their life to save the Parami capital while subverting an attempt to control her (my mage) why would she pick my mage over the loyal, powerful follower who almost won the first go around and whose one obstacle is now out of the way?

It doesn’t make sense to me, especially with a character as obsessed with control as Tahlia is in the current version

well this was explained that whatever we were doing with our big sis, we destroyed her body to the extent that it can’t be revived, in that final battle between mc and her in book 1

So there’s actually two reasons why you were brought back instead of Mireil as far as I understand it. Firstly it’s that Mireil while powerful is not a pure-blood arcadian, she has a good amount of strength and possibly some level of Arcadian blood. But in comparison to the MC in terms of raw potential she massively fails due to the difference in blood. (Basically Eugenics). Secondly, Mireil was kind of a rogue agent for Tahlia even though they agreed to work with one another Mireil still went off and did her own thing and it would be difficult to control her with force as Mireil had supporters within Arcadia such as F. The MC doesn’t have this barrier of control, they were just burned at the stake and most likely will have some ill will towards Param and Salantir both, and if worst comes to worse she can force the issue with little repercussions as the Arcadians at that point don’t have any opinion towards the MC and espeically towards a hostile one.

Edit: Mireil also can’t use phantasms as far as I understand which the MC can use and host multiple at the risk of their health.

And the second reason we were chosen is that we are basically a storage house for phantasm, that is why we were brought back, she is planning on unleashing all phantasm on param and our mc is the key to her plan

And round and round and round we go . I do hope that update is still coming out this year

I share your sentiment, I also hope it releases before people will forget what made it interesting

So edgy.

Meh, not edgy enough. Let me try.

There is ONLY ONE way to Salvation in this damned world, ONLY in the bottomless ABYSS OF OBLIVION the Mage can finally find PEACE! But the wretched witch of the fallen kingdom Arcadia dare to steal the Demon of Sienan from the sweet embrace of Nothingness, only to satisfy her lowly ambitions and TEMPT the mage by sweet vengeance.

Okay, maybe I over did it.

(Just in case, I’m just joking)

Literally the whole reason I’m friendly with her.

I do got to agree about why Tahlia brought back the MC but it has gotten me wondering after the MC talking about their past with Thaubal or whatever his name is, I came to notice that the MC had said 3 survived but we only knew of MC, Eli, and Miriel so who was that 3rd one if it wasn’t Miriel(if I remember correctly from the MC telling the White Fangs)…Tahlia had Miriel, she wants MC to save Eli and forced MC back to life rather than Miriel, MC is key to something…I do wonder why Thalia didn’t have anyone get all that information from Thaubal’s place yet the MC thought to go back to trauma land and found out about the bomb in the Saintess…Thalia knows something we don’t yet gives very little for us to go on while keeping a tight leash on the MC…Thalia is so cruel making MC come back and dangle a carrot in their face by dredging up the MC past of Eli only to find they are still alive giving them motivation to save them only to have to be stuck in another situation they both had been with Thaubal just amped up on the monitoring. I don’t know why but something about Thaubal and the others seems to go back to that past a lot though like something important we overlooking…but it might just be me. I also agree with some posts too about Ante being fishy and possibly a spy too, I mean she is a spymaster so she does got a lot of leverage to sniff out info and can spread false info and she is the newcomer that started the position so she had to be feeding some information somewhere, so someone got to be a rat within the kingdom and possibly getting information from Ante as some higher up and giving it to Thalia…I mean how did Miriel have time to even plant a bomb in the Saintess…“THE SAINTESS”…even Ilya knew how important she was and if I remember right Ilya even said how healers were rationed when we had that plague quest before the king’s death and that they couldn’t send all the healers to help. Also isn’t the Saintess heavily guarded(I mean we couldn’t even get to her when we had to kill her yet Ante got in the way)? I mean how did she get to be a bomb and for how long? It felt like it was planned yet MC got caught in it accidentally then became the perfect scapegoat into clearing the air of suspicions for the destruction to happen from Miriel wanting to destroy Parami…million dollar question would be is who? Unless MC just got really bad luck and it’s my imagination running wild.

Wow that was long but from what I can gather, I can atleast provide some info
1)the bomb was planted in the saintess when she was still with the mc big sis during that campaigne that lasted a year or two

2)Thalia might be related or has a connection to Miriel because if u play A mage reborn book 1 it is revealed that someone with red eyes like Miriel and Thalia, was helping Miriel or manipulating her during her childhood in the Thaubal’s lab

3)What Ante did was just a honest mistake, like all the fellow knights in that barrack that was safeguarding the saintess, were immbolized and u suddenly found the person responible for this, now holding a dagger to kill the saintess, even me I will not ask questions but arrest or kill the mc for what they are trying do and in param to kill a saintess is punishable by death, so no matter that situation, the mc will have to die for the crime even if it did not bear killing intent

4)what the mc said was correct only 3 survived while the remaining inculding Eli’s real sibling died due to the expriments involving phantasm

Respectfully disagree about Ante making an honest mistake. She made a mistake alright. She knew what the mage was capable of, charged in anyway, and got EVERYONE in her squad killed. Plus the saintess too. If she puts the weird grudge against the mage aside and RATIONALLY speaks with them, the story ends differently. It’s not the first time we see her awful habits rear their ugly head either. I.e. the revelation of who the WF really were.

Her aggression makes a LITTLE sense if you killed the knights in the hall, but unless you really suck at dispersing your skills, then odds are, the knights are perfectly fine. Sleeping or drugged to stay still, which the mage should have had them stand guard, but I digress.
