We are once again, on exact opposite ends. 
My mc gets the need to hide his face and does want to do that. But for him the hood of his new silly robe plus a bandaged face would do the trick all the same, without the need for a preposterous mask. In addition it may give him the side benefit of most people giving him a wide berth due to them thinking he is a leper or horrifically burned/disfigured or something.
Throwing the mask away is pretty much the first thing he’d do once he does manage to escape Arcadia.
