Don’t know if anyone else has made a post like this, but I thought I’d leave this here for anyone who’d find this useful.
So, I noticed here and there some aspiring writers who want to start documenting their imaginations into an interactive story. And I’m extremely pleased to see so many ambitious young authors coming on here, especially the readers who wanna write.
Some of you may be a little nervous or doubtful of your writing. Maybe you don’t have access to a PC/Laptop/Computer/Mac? Maybe you have one but you’re too busy to sit down and write on it? Maybe you are frightened by the task of learning to code while writing at the same time?
I am here to encourage that you don’t have to worry about these?
- Choicescript is something you’ll definitely have to learn, but it’s the easiest coding language out there. I swear
. Just jump into choicescript, read some tutorials, copy a code or two, ask questions. You’ll figure your way around in no time! - If you work or are away from your PC, you can jot your ideas down on your phone where you have time.
- If you don’t have a PC you can use your phone. It’s easy, trust me! Just make sure to have an Internet connection.
- Don’t be afraid of posting your story, even if you think it sucks. Just throw it out there into the world, take advice and improve.
Most of the games I’ve written so far were done on my phone, and I was able to do that through these methods:
- I downloaded Mozilla Firefox off the PlayStore. You can use Opera too.
- I opened the Choicescript Web IDE on Firefox.
- I downloaded Dropbox/logged in online and opened a Dropbox account.
- I made a game on my phone! Simple!
Note that you can’t use quicktest or randomtest on the Web IDE to check your game for errors. But don’t worry. I found a way to do just that on a phone.
- Download Winlator https://winlator.org/
- Download the Desktop IDE on your phone [CSIDE] The ChoiceScript IDE
- Open Winlator and adjust some settings
- Install the Choicescript IDE on Winlator
- Download the txt file folder from your Dropbox
- Save the file location for your txt files in the Winlator settings
- Open Winlator and run the Choicescript IDE
- Add the game folder in the IDE
- Tap on quicktest or randomtest to check your games for errors
- Wallah! Simple!
I only use this method to check my games for errors, but you could also just use it to write. Note that you’d have to have a Bluetooth keyboard though, or a tablet if you want to write using this method.
The only issue I’ve found with these is that if your screen is too small it can be very uncomfortable, so maybe use a tablet or a phone with a bigger screen.
