"180 Files: The Aegis Project" -- Uncover a web of evil as an elite superspy!

@Nexale Use Bergmann’s help to get upstairs, confront Petrovich and fail the stat check. When the policeman comes, stay and try to take him out. Then do NOT ignore Petrovich and you should be set.

I absolutely love this game. It’s just so well-rounded in story, writing and characters.

  • The tone of the story is overall light, but negatives aren’t ignored. That’s the type I like the most.
  • The writing is solid and keeps you hooked.
  • And man… the characters. Everyone is given appropriate strengths and flaws that it doesn’t seem odd or uncomfortable at all. From MC failing stat checks to the legendary 100 getting injured or suffering from wounds from years back or Gareth’s alcoholism.

I would have loved to have some more character interaction as some scenes were rather short and there was so much potential there, especially at the end. Some examples:

  • In my first run I had a romance going with Gareth, but I didn’t let him know about what’s going on. At the end there wasn’t even a proper conversation where I could say goodbye, feel guilty/regretful, try to start something or even realize it’s a horrible idea.
  • Also, it would have been nice to choose which character you want to follow up with at the end, rather than the game making that choice for you. In the same run my MC tried to call Vicki after locking her into the room. And I was like ‘of course she isn’t answering? Why am I calling her??’ :joy:
  • And then naturally, it would have been wonderful if the scene at the end would have been longer with the person you choose to spend time with.

I can imagine why these choices were made, of course. It’s all still good the way it is

I did have some difficulties getting used to the stats and making the character I wanted to play fit into them so the story would accurately recognize their personality. It did work in the end, though! I really came to appreciate the subtlety of the stats and all the various combinations that are allowed.

As I always do, I went on a deep code-dive while I played. The author comments were so lovely to read and gave interesting insight into the scenes.

@Ian_Mcnamara I might be able to help you! Read on at your own discretion though, since some tips might spoil the fun of the game. I recommend sticking to the general section below.

Summary

Generally:
If your goal is to pass all stat checks I’d recommend picking two stats and getting those really high (above 70). The impression I got was that there were a lot of checks that focused on force, tech and audacity. In my first run I went with one of those and then one of the other two to round it out.

More specific:

  • You set all your skill stats in the first two chapters, with the last being how you choose to fight the training dummy.
  • Note there are some checks where you require a stat above 75 (or even higher, possibly, I’m not sure). I did the math for audacious and suave and if you want both of those above 70, the highest you can get is 71 for both.
  • To get those two to 71 you have to do the following: the first two choices you need to boost one stat. The third choice, boost the other. Fourth choice, boost the higher one again. Escape by dropping into the pit (a wonderful audacious +20%), be a former detective and attack the dummy with flashy moves.
  • As you can see there are all kinds of variations. I intend to try out more.

But do try it out yourself. On their tumblr the author said cunning and audacious is actually a pretty good combination (and makes for a very entertaining MC personality). Personally, I have the feeling forceful is a pretty useful skill - but maybe it just stuck out to me a lot, need to try it out.

Let me know what combination you liked the most! :purple_heart:

I haven’t come across any stat checks higher than 70, so I recommend getting two stats over 70: one combat stat (force, audacity, cunning), and one non-combat stat (suave, tech, cunning).

Thanks for that all. I will give that a try. That is why i have had problems as i had one stat in the 80s and my backup stat lower. So i take it cunning works as both combat and non combat.

Thank you so much! I hadn’t thought in failling the stats. Guess I know now what kind of playthrough I’m going to try next.

@Ian_Mcnamara, as everyone have already say, focusing on two stats is the best choice. However, I don’t believe that there are any “better” combination, just go with the ones you feel more confortable roleplaying with. I’ve got “perfect” playthroughs with the three combination I’ve tried (cunning/forceful, audacity/suave and forceful/tech), and the help of the right gadgets. I do believe that the five skills are really well balanced out so you can play as you want (because yes, force and audacity are kind of more combat oriented, but you also have enough chances to use them in dialogues to be useful both ways and viceversa)

The gadgets are other matter, because they are really some which looks like a “must have” to me, and others that I’ve pick and didn’t get the chance to use even once. But as far as stats go, chose your two favourites and you’ll be allright.

Just finished my first playthrough and I have to say I enjoyed it very much even though I wasn’t able to get the romance scene with Angel. :joy:

If there’s a step by step guide on it, it would be awesome though. My MC was pragmatic though, flirt a bit, earn some respect points but my MC probably was not wary enough Angel’s motive that I didn’t get the luggage scene. ;~;

As for the stat combo, my MC was Tech/Cunning and it falls a part on the latter part of game. Perhaps I should try tech/suave or tech/audacity in my second playthrough.

Are you sure? when i had my main stat below 80 Angel says i was an idiot and i don’t get to stop her from getting away with the case.

I don’t think that relies on skill stats.

Tech/Cunning doesn’t work? Are you sure you were using the right gadget to complement it and were doing the right step during the investigation to get clues and put characters on your side? Doing so simplifies a lot the final part of the game.

About Angel, all I can tell you is the path I followed to get the scene (because no, it doesn’t depend on the stat, and I tried like 5 times to get it). Obvioulsy, there might be more, but this is the one I find:

Playing with a audacity/suave detective (a Mimic ID, Lie Detector, and Neurodisruptor are good complements, I think):

-During the casino chapter, I take Angel with me, speak with Petrovitch first and past the stat chek, talk with the policeman, and talk again to Petrovich during the hostage situation. Then, kiss Angel, and flirt when they tied you up.

-When finding Angel in the party, go for the cheek kiss, talk to them first, told them to apology, and don’t confront 313 in front of them.

-Tell Azazel that Angel tried to kill you, answer sarcastically and keep you thought to yourself when they offer you information.

-Call Angel when you get the chance, tell them that you don’t usually do that thing, and that let’s see if they can keep up with you. Then, ask why they thing you need their help.

-Tell 100 and 313 that Angel should come with you in order to watch them, and choose to go with them during the infiltrarion.

-Tell them “Of course I can” (sorry, don’t remember what choice was that), that you are watching them, but react positevly to the flirt.

-You have to get all the chek stats right during the infiltrarion to gain their respect. (With my character, that was letting them use the toxin and create a distraction with them). Then, you have to lock Vicky, and tell Angel that if you kill someone you have to deal with the corpse. Ask about what is like working with Diablo.

-If you can, create an override for the Aegis, and talk Peter out of the fight (though probably any other succesfull option work as well). Then go inmediatly after Faustus and kill him (I don’t know if killing him is mandatory, but better play safe).

-If you’ve done all that (all the other option don’t count, I think), your character should get Angel while they try to scape. Let them go with the suitcase and then you have the chance to kiss them/get kiss. Pick that and you’ll have the ending.

Just as a heads up, kissing angel in the casino actually lowers the stat needed (respect) to figure out their scheme. And in the party you don’t get it if you kiss them, only if you shake their hand “cheerfully”.

Just checked with end stats again and I unfortunately got Tech below 70. Reason why I got a bit of a problem after the initial infiltration. :joy:

Thank you so much for the tips will try this out and went on a bit code diving. The specific scene with Angel is tie to their respect so I suppose I should look out for those parts.

@SourPeaches Just checked the code and saw the variables tied to it but the additional relationship points are tempting. :joy: Does relationship points ties to romance in some way?

@resuri08 No, just different reactions. For example, if you kiss them at the end, with a rel of over 40, they’ll say “A bientôt” (until we see each other again) as a way of farewell instead of “Au revoir” (just a regular/casual goodbye)

Hmm will check again.
BTW any ideas on how to get these achievements?
Cut the wire
Condolences
Clarity
Collateral damage
3rd times the charm
Coasting
All according to plan

I got all but those.

The one I know for sure:

- Clarity: In Chapter 7, enter alone, talk to Hex and tell them the truth (you have to had evidence to do so), and be understandable with Hercules and try to reason with him. (Guess you have to take the option in line with you character)

The others I think rhat are as follows:

- Cut the wire: when exploring the warehouse with 100, fail the stat when passing alone the guardian, and then disconnect the device (tech and X-ray gadget)

- Collateral damage: Bring Vicky along with you in Chapter 7 and don’t minimize the damage of Faustus bioweapon.

- Coasting: I’m pretty sure it is related to obeying 313 orders.

The others I have no idea yet, I’m trying them too, but I think you have to do things pretty wrong all the time

Coasting is actually about your assessment result. If you have an agency assessment greater than 70 but smaller than 80, Faustus didn’t escape, and you didn’t get 100’s recommendation, the Director will not offer you the position but instead something different.

@jcury About the All According to Plan one, you need to get to the final chapter with a suspicion of over 75 and having either captured or killed Faustus. When the Director asks you why the hell did you turn into a walking discretion violation, bullshit a lie with suave, cunning, or audacity over 70.

Congratulations @Scribblesome!!! :sparkles: :crocodile: :sparkles:

I have been playing your masterpiece the whole day (I read slowly) and just finished my first playthrough! Fantastic writing! A beautiful cast of characters!

I felt like I failed most of the stat checks (Angel thought my MC to be an idiot, sniff) yet still got positive remarks from 100 and 313 and the promotion. Not bad for a first try, I suppose XD
Despite this, there is obviously a need for a re-play * cough that Angel romance cough *

Thank you so much for writing this!

Achievement guide part 1 - Chapter One
SPOILERS!

Play to Win - choose that you’re going to win the poker game
Influential - choose to get upstairs with Bergmann’s help
Jaws of Death - this one is automatic when you reach the crocodile pit scene

The ‘fake endings’ achievements - there are several ways this chapter can ‘end’, prior to the crocodile pit, and they have an effect on the hidden stat for Angel’s respect (which has later impacts)

Chapter One achievements
Distressed
[small a_respect boost]
When you meet the suspicious man in the casino’s back rooms, you’ll either sneak up on him or go straight to a fight depending on how you got there. If you snuck up on him, you’ll have a chance to talk to him, threaten him, or fight him. A successful talk (Suave) or threaten (Force) check will lead to the two of you forming a truce. If you get the fight scene, a successful Tech/Force/Audacity check will also lead to a truce.

Neutralized
[small a_respect boost]
If you fail the fight check against Mr Suspicious, or if you threaten him with a Force stat above 45 but below 60, you’ll get this, where 180 overpowers him and ties him up.

Sudden, But Inevitable
[medium a_respect loss]
When you get into the casino back rooms, choose to go and talk to Petrovich. Fail the attempt to calm him down and he’ll try to shoot you, forcing you to retaliate. The noise will draw Mr Suspicious - choose to ‘take him out and consider my options’, then either try to question Petrovich or help him.

Make A Break
[medium a_respect loss]
Fail the attempt to calm Petrovich down, then choose the ‘attack and run’ option OR choose ‘consider my options’ then look through Mr Suspicious’s pockets

SNAFU
[large a_respect loss]
Fail the attempt to calm Petrovich down, then choose the ‘attempt to talk’ option. This is a very hard Suave/Tech/Force check. If you fail it, you’ll get this achievement

More Than Meets The Eye
[large a_respect boost]
Fail the attempt to calm Petrovich down, then choose the ‘attempt to talk’ option. This is a very hard Suave/Tech/Force check - you’ll need to have chosen every possible opportunity to boost one of these stats. Succeed, and you get this achievement!

Really like the game but I have some difficulties trying to romance Hex, does anyone has any advice?

What kind of problem are you running into?

Same. Angel is a very complicated character that’s for sure. They also called my MC an idiot too. I suppose being a fool who flirt a lot and too trusting with Angel will not earn you some respect from them.
