A sucker for angst, are you? XD Honestly, I’m the exact opposite lol I’d definitely rather know one way or the other, if only to have closure and move on

HOW DID YOU KNOW?!?! XD

I go either way. Love angst, yet do love some things set in stone. Either way though… Still won’t pick up that birth control. I actively refuse to. xD

But if it was Lyles wouldnt she be pregnant with or without having a romance with the MC?

That’s the big question mark in all of this. The working theory is she’s always pregnant, just more vigilant for signs if she’s with a Male MC w/o any BC.

It shows the inconsistency of writing with Jim in that regard. Not only that, but she’s always pregnant (unless with the BC) but even then it’s kinda muddled up in timing and such. Feel like @JimD should take the time with Jill, if she is going to be the preverbal fertility goddess with this challenge and clear it up a bit to make it consistent. And, if on a FemMC route, have it be a possible option as well that if you don’t happen to get the BC she does end up with Lyles child and you can handle that as you see fit, so long as you are on her route at least. If not, then maybe make it optional as a challenge.

I’m getting lots of questions about this, so I will explain my thoughts.

I had always planned to have Jillian pregnant with Lyle’s baby. I know people were interested in seeing how a pregnant character would affect a group in this setting, so I wanted to provide that as an opportunity.

The birth control pills was more to confuse the player on who may be the father. That may sound strange, but it’s all about conflict. I thought it would be interesting if Jillian is going around telling the MC that they are the father of her child, only for it to come out that it is Lyle’s baby.

There are 2 paths I had setup:

  1. You provide birth control to Jillian. - You will find out she’s pregnant eventually. This will be more of a shock in chapter 15 after a time jump.
  2. You don’t provide birth control. Jillian thinks she’s pregnant early.
    a. Billie tells her she’s not pregnant.
    b. Jillian gets an ultrasound. Confirms Jillian is pregnant.

The purpose of all of this was to change the group’s perspective on Jillian’s pregnancy and show it from multiple angles.

I realize some of you may not like that. I really don’t want Jillian to become “that character who can have a baby.” But I also don’t want to screw around with player agency. So I will have to think about how exactly I want to portray this character and this event in her life.

Make it consistent on both sides, if not overall with her, specially on a female route, since in all likelyhood she’s knockered up and gonna have his kid regardless it seems. As it would add drama and interest for those femMCs in perhaps wanting to raise/have a kid.

And while sure, and I’ve already seen this from some, some aren’t fans for it being Lyle’s kid and the only reason they were going for Jillian’s path was for having a kid with Jillian only to find out it’s not. (Personally I’ll admittedly say I am kinda bummed, but still will love the child regardless, with certain hopes of having the second one on the way afterward). Maybe, for those on her route, have it be suggesting instead of four weeks its maybe three weeks instead, and have Jillian bring up the fact that she did briefly did sleep with Lyle (even though we already know), and imply that it might just be ours, to have some sense of hope that maybe it could very well be ours, while in case of a female MC, we very much know who the daddy is.

Also, as EXPLICITLY STATED priorly… heh, I do honestly hope we can sit down with Gina and invite her to be a co-parent of sorts with this situation because I am sure as hell she would absolutely love the prospect, likely tearing up in the process.

Just some food for thought on the whole thing.

After thinking about it, it’s looking like two possible scenarios:

SCENARIO A
-Jillian takes birth control pills. She still gets pregnant, and it’s most likely Lyle’s baby.
-Jillian does not take birth control pills. She gets pregnant.
-If the MC is male, the baby is the MC’s.
-If the MC is not male, the baby is Lyle’s.

SCENARIO B
-Jillian takes birth control pills. She does not get pregnant.
-Jillian does not take birth control pills. She gets pregnant.
-If the MC is male, the baby is the MC’s.
-If the MC is not male, the baby is Lyle’s.

Personally, I prefer A. In this way, Jillian is always pregnant, even if you’re not in a relationship with her. In this way, you get to see the impact of a pregnant survivor on the group regardless of your relationship with her. It’s also a lot easier for me to write. Otherwise, Jillian has this major switch between games that I have to account for.

Thoughts?

Also thanks to @NuclearRanger for discussing this.

More specifically, if the MC is male and in a relationship with her, the baby is MC’s (otherwise it’s Lyle’s), I imagine.

So if MC is male and in a relationship with her (or with her and Gina—I second Starwolf’s proposal for MC, Jillian, and Gina to all coparent Jillian’s child whether or not it’s MC’s as well if all 3 are in a relationship), she gets pregnant on the Hill or at the Junkyard? Otherwise she gets pregnant at MC’s Nightfall home (it is mentioned that she and Lyle made the best of the free bed)?

I never had Jillian as an RO, I only decided to follow her path after learning about the possible pregnancy, which really makes things very interesting with all the possible difficulties of a pregnancy in an apocalyptic scenario, in addition to the drama of not knowing who is the father. I find this scenario interesting, regardless of whether we have a relationship with her.

@Jimd I’m with you on A.

I’ll vote A. It’s easier for you, and well, I am interested in seeing how parenthood works out for her.

I would also prefer option A. Option B would really only make sense if you replace birth control with Plan B, which I think would make this more of a political lighting rod than any of us want.

Edit to add: who would have guessed the con man lied about being sterile :no_mouth:

A is the very popular choice. Also I’m going to add a conversation with Gina about co-parenting.

@Starwolf got your wish, fam. Congrats.

Option A works, adding intrigue, dialouge, “drama” to the group. I can certainly see Rachel, at first being not in favor of it, with the whole risk of things, but if we strike a certain tone with her, I could see her come around and see the possible beauty of it and want to help protect Jillian. Along with others of the group. Lot of intrigue there.

As an aside, as I am glad you’ve come around for the coparenting of the lovely resident cougar, why can’t a teen be interested in her if they happen to get the threeway? Seems odd to leave her out of the interests if it happens and not be able to show interest, but still show interest in the others. Like it’s made out to be a “one time thing” yet also made out that your casual with her without the actual interest. Then again, my teen MC certainly loves older ladies so… xD

But enough baby daddy talk! Let’s do classic small continuity issue!

@JimD If you have a nephew, they say good morning to Jillian despite the next paragraphs saying she just walked in with coffee.

Did I read somewhere we’re getting a time jump in part 4? Maybe I’m thinking of a different game.

I’ll answer with a quote.
