Would you be interested in romancing an asexual character?

I’m also sorry I guess? Like I said I’m hands off, I won’t be touching this subject matter.

It feels like you’re pressuring your partner into it

Which feels greasy as all hell

I been lurking here for years and wanted to make an account, why be rude and condescending? Another poster said that anyhow?

That wasn’t even clever, just stupid

I would be interested. It’s the character and the quality of dialogue itself that interests me first and foremost. Sex scenes are not required to show intimacy between two people.

I say this as a woman who is celibate by choice - I would advise against writing an asexual character that truthfully does not ever want sex (intercourse? other sex acts?) and is repulsed by it but offers to do it anyway with the player character to make them happy. Having sex as a duty is the reality of many women’s lives both past and present and is one of the many ways they are objectified/dehumanised.
Logically, someone who truly cares about you as a human being wouldn’t expect you to endure sex for their sake. They would either find ways to make it enjoyable for you as well (mutual masturbation is still sex), let you go so you can find someone more compatible with you, or stay with you but sort out their needs by themselves.

I wouldn’t mind pursuing an asexual character as long as we are expected to respect their boundaries regarding intimacy as we would be expected to with everyone else.

It wasn’t meant to be either of those things – just a joke at the double entendre of “I’ll watch but not engage.” On any reading of the line where it’s trying to condescend, or in general make a joke at @SnowPhoniex’s expense, it would definitely be stupid. Maybe it is anyway, but no rudeness was intended.

Welcome to the forum.

Please flag and do not respond to any post that you feel is inappropriate.

Let’s return to the topic of the thread now.

Flag it just so it can then get swept under the rug (because that’s exactly what’s going to happen)?

I’m not aiming this at you specifically, but I find in this forum (from my years of being a member) that you can get away with being fairly condescending, insulting, rude, etc. as long as your comment is something that the mod team as a whole agree with.

@Havenstone has not only been unnecessarily rude to @SnowPhoniex but I found him to be rather condescending towards me too (I found his response to me earlier in this thread to be a load of infantilising claptrap); I reported him (though I don’t know why, because I’m almost certain nothing’s going to be done about him), and I also tried reporting the comment that @Yugi highlighted a few days ago (but all I got was a message saying something to the effect of “someone’s already reported this, and we’ve decided that it’s ok”).

I can’t really blame the likes of @Yugi for calling users like that out, because it feels as if nothing’s going to happen otherwise (which is usually the case).

If you see a post that you believe breaks the forum rules, that is harassing you or someone else, or that otherwise should not be on the forum, flag it and do not respond. If you feel you need to elaborate on why such a post breaks the rules, or is otherwise offensive, select ‘something else’, describe the problem, and it will open up a thread for you to discuss it with the moderators.

Each flagged post is read by a moderator, who then decides on a reaction.

If you end up disagreeing with the decision made, there are two further options available:

  • You can DM the moderator who made the decision

or

  • You can appeal the decision to staff by contacting Choice of Games directly by sending an email to support@choiceofgames.com.

Writing claptrap, even infantilising claptrap, isn’t against forum rules. Some things are worth responding to in disagreement, not flagging.

Personally, I appreciated Yugi’s callout; there are responses that make the forum a little bit of a worse place, even if they’re not clearly rule-breaking. Calling them when you see them is what I did with you, and Yugi with me. Especially if a mod’s already ruled that it doesn’t deserve to disappear, as in the case of my joke, pointing out that it’s unpleasant seems fair game to me.

I’ve deleted my joke above. It wasn’t meant to be at @SnowPhoniex’s expense, and I’m sorry to have come up with something that read like it was.
