Hey, so first written story in IF format that got this far (and publicized). I’ve had the idea for a while, but was just sitting around. This was originally in Twine before porting over since I wanted to try a new medium, so I believe I got most mistakes out. I had a feeling I understood ChoiceScript, but there are a few kinks here and there I can’t figure out and will go back for (nothing game breaking at this point). If you spot any weird visually inconsistencies, yep, that’s me trying to figure out how to do things and format correctly, so I won’t mind fixing them as they come up.

Tagging this as modern-fantasy is kind of true, though I couldn’t think up of a better labeling. Due to the nature of the story, there are a few locked options appearance-wise to make the story less complex, and the character you play as will be female. And to note, not one that has the same beliefs as me (as in, they have opinions and thoughts unique to them, so it’s in character for them to feel certain ways). As I get to it, there will probably be trigger warnings for all things related to the entertainment business, especially K-pop, but this will be done in more detail that is not now as the current state is only the introduction to the world and show.

Since I already said too much in the afterword (and now this), I’ll try not to say too much here, but I am in the process of fixing up the story and this is a good demo of what I am attempting to do. I wrote 30 character blurbs, so I will be using all 30.

I appreciate any feedback on how to make this better, what you find interesting, would like to be expanded… Pretty much anything!

I’m definitely intrigued but I think it suffers from a lack of choices, even if its just asking questions during the exposition it helps break up the walls of text but that might just be my personal preference.

Either way will keep an eye on this, best of luck!

Just did one playthrough. I concur. There is a lot of text in the game, but outside of character creation, I think I only encountered five choices. Almost every choice of the five was a two choice option with one choice disabled (I’m guessing it’s tied to personality stats?) so it also doesn’t really feel like a choice.

While there’s no hard rule on this, I also recommend capping each page to about five hundred words at most. Some pages were over 2k words long, which was very hard to read on a phone screen.

Even if you intend to tell a linear story, I recommend breaking down the monotony with some fake choices, at least, to keep a reader engaged.

Good luck.

Thanks for your feedback, I definitely see your points. I wasn’t sure what a good rule of thumb was, so I’ll definitely want to fix that since the beginning is very dense and I do not want to scare people away! I plan to add more breaking points with choices, which should help break up the text.

Right now, choices are tied to personality (which is initially set at the beginning) but I probably tied them down a bit too tightly to initially avoid messes during the writing process. But now that I have it written out and a bit more confident in writing things out, I can do more with it and make it more interactive!

Thanks for the feedback, I wasn’t too sure how much text will be too much, but I do agree I do lack choices, I wasn’t sure how badly. I do have some in mind now that I have things set up, so I’ll be working on that for the next update!
