[WIP] War of Havan (200k words) | Light-Fantasy Fictional WW1 IF

Oh to give you a heads up since it dont think its been mentioned yet and though its not game breaking there is a bit of linebreak style code showing when the other soldier is pulling us back to our own lines.

I’ll check that out right now. It was likely just an issue I missed with the code formatting, and I possibly just added an extra *line_break. If you are able to provide a screenshot to the exact passage, that would be greatly appreciated.

Lol yeah most likely like i said its just a small thing not game breaking will try to get a screen shot those sort of things have been finniky of late but will try.

Another thing I was thinking off and just something for potential food for thought but doesnt half to be dealt with. Was how when we were getting our exam done there could be a opportunity there for show casing how our characters feel about such things no matter what our gender is.

That can definitely be done, I’ll aim to push that out with the next update.

It’s pretty good better than anything I could make.

I’m interested on the story, but one thing bothered me from a world building perspective. It is and was nearly impossible to sustain an expedition, especially during the WW1 era without sea control. Even with it, it was extremely challenging. Gallipoli is an example of this. Considering Havan is an island nation I think you need to provide some explanation as to how the Kessnan Empire established and is maintaining sea control sufficient to keep their invasion of Havan going.

First off, thank you for providing feedback, I really appreciate it.

As far as Kessnan sea control goes, this is something that is going to be explained/explored much further later on in the story. Kessna is the dominant regional power within Herana, and this power extends to their navy.

Havan, though strong enough on their own, is merely a minor power, primarily focused on trade and commerce, and so it does not have a particularly advanced nor extensive military (a partial reason the conscription act was utilized).

I don’t want to spoil too much more than that, but trust me, I will definitely explain in much greater detail in the coming chapters, as I 100% agree with you that it needs to be clearly explained. Thank you for bringing this point up though, as it is definitely important.

Given how we have leadership stats, what’s the highest rank the PC can achieve?

The highest currently planned rank is Cpl., though in the future that may change.

The leadership stat primarily provides unique story text, as well as choices (that especially in later chapters) can massively change how a scene (for example a battle) plays out.

You can expect leadership to have an impact on:

  • Battle outcomes
  • Dialogue/action choices
  • Experiences within the story directly (or not) tied to otherwise hidden choices
  • Performance of close allies in stressful situations (this comes into play during later chapters, not a thing in current demo

awesome to see ww1 stuff. most stories usually only cover the second one since it had a more clear cut bad guy and ended with nukes among other things

I completely agree. WW1 IFs, or just IFs inspired by WW1/have a similar setting, like this one, are pretty few and far between. There are totally some fun ones out there, but overall the genre is pretty sparse. I hope you’ve enjoyed what I have available!

120k for an opening post is mad work, and it looks pretty good as long as you manage to polish out the bugs

Very interested, though unable to play. I got an error when viewing stats, and now when I try to restart I get an error on startup line 50

Thank you for checking it out. Yeah 120k was definitely a bit bigger than was probably needed haha. I have so much planned for this story, and due to the setting and content, I figured that it would be unfair to the reader to provide a demo that did not truly give at least a little taste of what I’ve got in store.

I originally planned for the demo to just be the prologue, but after thinking on it for a while, I realized that it would be better to let the player experience the first major combat sequence, and get a feel for the war itself, rather than just teasing it.

It’s been fixed. Apologies for your bumpy start. The update was just uploaded a bit ago so I clearly missed some things. Seems it an issue on my part. I had forgotten to close off the statement properly, so I’m sorry about that.
