I enjoyed the tidbit we have, it’s a good start. I’m already excited to meet Aurelia, even though I am sure it’s very, very far off.
It’s a little jarring to be dropped in at the end of the war. It’s generally not too difficult to piece together what’s going on, but maybe you could add a clear and organized summary of the war and who everyone is - it felt a bit scattered to me.

Thanks!
I see what you mean. I’m wary of adding too much exposition to the first chapter, but I can try to sprinkle in some details to explain how the MC got where they are and what the war was fought over.

Took a look, I’m liking it a lot!
I’m especially looking forward to the resource management part as I’m a sucker for such games. I look forward to reading more from you

Update: 5/23/2025
- Chapter 2 added.
- 8k words long.
- Arrive in Redguard, meet the Duchess, explore your new city, and get introduced to the basics of being a ruler.
- I’ve added “court skills” which will be static skills that help you in conversation. These typically won’t lock you out of anything but they may help you learn a thing or two that you wouldn’t have known otherwse. Which can help you make more informed decisions.
- The kingdom building follows the current system. You have your main stats (military, economy, culture, etc) that represent the overall wealth of your territory. Then you have resource stats (materials, manpower, etc) that are the things you spend to improve your province. Although you don’t actually end up spending any in this introductory chapter here.
- The next update will be slower because I’ll be releasing the next three or so chapters together.
I hope you enjoy. In the next chapter you’ll deal with some of Jason’s remaining supporters, these being the clerics of the gods he followed and tried to impose on Aelin. To do this, you’ll need to make an alliance with one of three holy orders.
