Spoiler tag and also. Regenes are like clones, like robots, etc. They arenât like Android 17 and 18 a couple of teenagers abducted and turned into cyborgs. Theyâre like Android 16 created from scratch.

The first game heavily implies the MC was a Re-Gene from birth. In the first game, the MC will be jealous of the fact Argent had parents if they look through her mind (and they mention something about never having any). Itâs implied the reason MC would refuse to tell Ortega about their past back when they were Sidestep because of the governmentâs involvement (they say something along the lines of Ortega getting themselves killed if they knew the truth because theyâd be so outraged and angry?), and also Sidestep was desperate to avoid government attention. When you run into the Re-Genes while trying to get the telepathic gun, the MC seems to have quite a lot of knowledge about how they operate (including that there would be a scout acting as crowd control, which would be⌠a very good job for a telepathic Re-Gene). Thereâs also the mention of the museum gate-crashing being their âfirst real birthdayâ or something along those lines. Plus the optional epilogue (if you werenât secretive enough or something) where you, the reader, discover the Farm has realised the MC is alive and is keeping an eye on them.
Iâm pretty sure thereâs some more stuff in the demo which would support the âMC was abused by the government from birthâ thing (since thatâs less and less a theory tbh), but I canât remember it right now. But Re-Genes donât seem to be volunteers, since Iâm pretty sure the first gameâs flashbacks all but admitted thereâs experiments repeatedly killing and reviving people until their skin turns blue and they achieve some weird state, so the general consensus is (I think?) it makes more sense for the US government to be cloning babies as opposed to kidnapping them on a massive scale.

I donât like men but since youâre dying Iâll let you have a peek.â She took off her top revealing the Regene tattoos and old scars that still marred her body. âI still your dream girl Herald?â She asked coldly but his glazed expression was the only answer she received. Sliding her shirt back on she delivered a kick to his body and walked away.
