Poor Prii!

Also why I said Prii babies before.

Mm, fair enough; figured as an extra set of eyes (or ten or…) I’d mention it since it pertains to the main-plot functionality. I expect it to come into play in future.

Something that has quite a large impact is the minor stat-boost from Chapter 2: this can make the difference between succeeding or failing a check, and there’s no way to opt-out of receiving that boost in the normal gameplay. Testing from a skip-ahead point without that enabled won’t be an accurate representation.

I’ll be honest, I thought this chapter wasn’t finished yet. There’s some essential missing context that makes the Ch11 startpoint and combat (most of the chapter…) awkward and pretty confusing:

Chapter 11 Feedback:
(Disclaimer: I can’t sugarcoat to save my life, so I love it when authors provide feedback forms. I do my damnedest not to eviscerate people’s newborn projects and stomp the remainder of their guts out in a public forum, so hopefully the below doesn’t sound too harsh. I save my most pointed (and therefore most helpful) constructive criticisms for places nobody else can ogle it. Some things I just don’t say if one isn’t provided, as it’s really nobody else’s business. Promise I’m here to be a positive influence.)

Here’s the general notes I jotted down when the chapter originally came out - it’s still valid:
ā€˜Absent a bridge from Chapter 10 to Chapter 11, I don’t know what the goal is (presumably ā€˜beat everybody up’; but in the absence of knowing why I would want to do that, it gave the rough impression of a loosely-plotted action movie where the only reason people are throwing punches is for the sake of throwing punches, without any greater intent behind it), what details or narrative I’m meant to focus on story-wise, or even any intel about the opponents I’m facing.
I’m a bit lost with characters and events lacking any natural-timeframe introduction; and I can’t tell what state Dime is in with regard to powers-in-play (I also didn’t see any option to activate the specialties, but then part of the narrative makes me think they’re already up? I’m so confused)’

- the lack of ability to properly assess the fight (stakes and goal are essential for fights to have meaning; we can expect those aren’t ā€˜survival’ since we walked into the situation with eyes wide open instead of getting jumped by S.C.U.M. in the street) means… I couldn’t give any sort of valid feedback on how the fight went (what the feedback form asked for), as being so uninformed it would be all too easy to potentially steer you in the wrong direction.

General impressions:

  • looks like we’ve got new Balanced options for fighting. This looks promising; I’d like to see some effects enabled for not hitting the high-end of the spectrum but certainly being more to one side than the other.
  • a checkpoint to rebalance your ā€˜personality stats’ more to your intended playstyle before a fight kicks off would be nice, since the game likes to run away with that and assign what it thinks you should be – and no matter what variety of character I’m attempting to play that go-round, my own personality as the player seems to be overriding it, since I can’t do a sufficiently accurate impersonation of a personality I myself don’t possess. (This makes it very hard for me perform testing, since I can’t organically get the numbers in their intended places, and have thus given up on attempting some routes.)
  • full points for including options to both be highly concerned about and ignore the helpless civilians entirely; bonus points for including the villain option: agency is always welcome, and I know we have some folks around CoG who like to play the ah, unheroic characters; so there’s something here for them too.
All the compliments for providing the opportunity to play a grey character, rather than a firmly designated glitter-sparkly hero or mustachioed villain. Honestly, this is what I’m here for :winking_face_with_tongue:
  • the list of choices seems to be ballooning - I suggest not displaying the inaccessible items. While it’s truly great they’re there, it’s just taking up page space if they’re not a choice we can actually pick.
  • Loved the option to be pragmatic this chapter. I’ve been getting moralized at by the narrative so far (which leaves me scratching my head going ā€œā€¦ehhh? What’d I do? …Do you… have something against being practical..?ā€) and this made me feel right at home. [beams and casually breaks Teddie’s bones, because he’s my teammate and he asked me to.:love_you_gesture: ]
  • Option I want: when I save the civilians and put down a Cannibal, the option for feeling ā€˜Justified’ is disabled. (…he threw a car of civilians..?) I’d like one for ā€˜Resolved’, because ā€˜Nothing’ isn’t accurate – some men, just need a good killin’. (To that end, I’m disappointed I didn’t get the option before he threw a carfull of people at Dime’s head; because personally, I expected that behavior out of him.)
  • Ranged options for Spring Breaker: what’s the point of being a tentacle-monster if you can’t use your great long tentacles?
The narrative tries to enforce that ā€˜this person totally isn’t a big deal’ (they run with SCUM. I’ll be taking them seriously, thanks); and if we get suspicious about how she keeps trying to get her hands on Dime, we simply have no option not to close with her (if we’re not taking the suspicious energy drink that came out of the evil lab). Which goes about as well as you’d think and ends up being awfully frustrating, since I’m not seeing any option to avoid it.
  • Pretty sure Dime can prevent being identified by Insider at the cafe? The option for ā€˜he knows my face’ should be greyed-out if Dime hasn’t been.
  • Ghoul thinks they killed Insider. They’ve run off and abandoned us, just like everybody else on our team :face_with_tongue: I can’t believe I’m saying this (Izzy WTH have you done to my thought processes…) – this is the perfect opportunity for another villain option. :woman_facepalming:

Cheers!

Now fully available!

Just FYI there isn’t a skip to the latest chapter. I haven’t had the work time to create that. But! You can restart the latest chapter with alternate variables which will allow you to see a lot of the differences, so there’s that.

(the big one is of course whether or not you actually caught Rocket)

Hi, I’ve noticed in the latest update in the variation where you killed both Cannibal and the civilians, a lot of the choices seem to be bugged?

I think it has something to do with the fact that my relationship score with Mallory is in the negative, because the error message I keep getting says: ā€œinterocket line 3254: Can’t fairAdd to non-percentile value: -13ā€

I’ve noticed the bug with the following choices (there might be some I’ve missed):

Summary

ā€œCannibal was too dangerous. It was my only optionā€.

ā€œTruthfully, I’m starting to have doubtsā€.

ā€œWe’re villains. What is their damn problem?ā€

ā€œI made a mistakeā€

ā€œI made a mistake. [Lie]ā€

ā€œTell her she’ll rot hereā€

ā€œEmphasise the pain she’s in forā€

ā€œI’ll kill herā€

ā€œI can live with thatā€

ā€œAdvocate for Rocket: we already beat her entire gangā€

ā€œAdvocate for Rocket: the DPR are the real enemy hereā€

ā€œYeah, Wyrd’s rightā€

ā€œUnless we put an end to her right nowā€

ā€œSpeak against Rocket: it may bite us if we don’t deal with her nowā€

Oh lmao, I forgot about flat minuses to relationship causing issues. I’ll get that fixed.

(Specifically I messed up my failsafe for preventing it going under 0)

Does eating spring breaker give her powers to the MC?

No tragically, that would be a net positive of her existence and she is unable to do that

Guys, what do you think would be the best weakness for a Jason Todd/Robin character? I STILL can’t make up my mind lol. I know I want him to use hand to hand combat, and for power speciality, idk… I usually do carapace but idk if bullet sponging is the most interesting dynamic for him lol

I remember reading that Dion may become a RO if we ever get a second book. Is that still considered? Because I was going to romance Teddie but Dion kinda started stealing the show haha

Ya, but don’t let it stop you from doing other RO routes because there will be some shenanigans that may or may not cause some RO to not be accessible in the second book (if it happens)

BE WHO YOU AREEEEE hum but yeah I think you should do martial arts and carapaces #work

Not ominous at all haha Still going to check Teddie and Wil routes in the meanwhile. I had a lot of fun playing the demo ^^

Thank you for the feedback, and sorry it took this long to acknowledge! I appreciate you taking that much time.

I choose to start the next scene in media res to spare yet another briefing scene. I did try my best to sprinkle in context as I went, so perhaps that could have used some more juice.

The very first choice in Ch12 is actually an opportunity to calibrate personality slightly rather than a skill check. They nudge instinctive one way or the other (or keep it the same). Truthfully I’m not 100% what you mean as the changes in text based on personality values, I’d think represent how you’ve been playing the character?

I generally prefer to use selectable_if just as a like, signal to people of ā€˜hey, there are different options here if you’d done other stuff!’

The justified part is cause that option is intended to be a ā€˜killing Cannibal because they killed civilians’, but the point is taken.

While you can avoid getting actually nabbed by Insider, he’s zeroing in on Dime regardless in the cafĆ©. I could maybe adjust the text slightly to make it a ā€˜presumable’ thing, but I did think it was relatively clear that Insider had narrowed it down.

This is diabolical and I kind of wish I’d thought of it because tragically I’ve now built a bunch of assumptions into how that shakes out that make it kind of impossible to have that as an option :sob:

Granted, I did too,

It’s false advertisement is what it is. I tried in the last playthrough, but the game won’t let me.
