Took the enhanced juice and wow! Talk about body horror lol. Love the direction this is going. Lemme embrace the eldritch monster within and eat more people!!!
I gotta go back through and take the enhanced brew one of these days; I’ve made it a personal goal to avoid taking juice to see what happens under the (likely misguided) theory that it’s holding me back. Either I’m right and I get to take bloody revenge against the Coven, or I’m wrong and give everybody the middle finger as I melt into goop or something.
for the non tumblr people, here is some recent fan arts for teddie, Kay and mal!
Gods this story is amazing already, I can’t wait for the rest of it to be completed! I love all the characters, Teddie is my favorite and I just want to smother the grump in affection. The way the MC is written is amazing as well, their reluctance to trust any degree of positivity or affection is both understandable given their history and heartwrenching as well, and I hope we get the chance to see them heal (and of course the chance to take down the Coven, they deserve it.)
I do hope my decision to reject the Juice doesn’t come back to bite me in the ass though, but I suppose we’ll just have to see how things go!
Can you please decrease the stat checks?
If u like Teddie next chapter has a treat (threat?)
Stat checks are always a thing we seek to balance so if there are specific ones you need help with it, please note them down thank you
Welll that may not work out for you.
all purely hypothetical, of course.
all I’m gonna say is that catalyst in the top left quadrant is certainly a place my lovely secretary chose to put him.
Thanks! Glad it did it for you, I enjoyed writing that ![]()
I’d definitely encourage trying it out at least once!
I like your theory, also.
FERAL FOR IT.
Thank you! I’ve tried to portray Dime’s struggle for connection even if they may want it. It’s so hard to trust, and there’s some self-sabotage too.
For Teddie stuff, you’re gonna be eating good soon : )
Mm, as my wife said, is there anything in particular you’re struggling with? A couple of checks are placed quite high but there’s a bit of a mixture of difficulty (some options occasionally just aren’t good tactics, which may be throwing you off).
I think if guts isnt your weakest stat and you have the knife you should be able to stab the creature. For stat checks, a lot of the ones in the zone I was just barely off the requirement. The knowledge and stealth ones. Weird that the knowledge one is so high when the conputer password is on a sticky note
I wanted to beat Surpass twice without injury but its tricky because of the first check. I end up boosting guts and stealth instead of doing self care because that option doesnt seem to make much of a difference
A lot of these checks either my knowledge or stealth is a point off ![]()
I personally didn’t really have issues with stats, the checks didn’t feel too hard nor too easy for me. But I also dig in the code way more than the average reader so that might be affecting things
I made knowledge the highest stat (in the beginning + restore later), then I put any other stat increases into subterfuge, and observation was the weakest stat, and it seemed to work fine so far. I’ve never really tried out other combinations though
(More Teddie art)
Idk I code dive too but I dont think you can meet the zone chapter gut checks if you didnt start out with guts as your highest skill. Maybe more ways to boost stats? I didnt care much for banter/romance early on so having the option to train instead would be nice
Also more character descriptions I kept forgetting what the characters looked like. I dont think I know Alistairs description?
We will look into it! Thanks for the feedback ![]()
Personally, I feel like most, if not all, of the stat checks are at the right number itself - they feel properly earned when passed - but could maybe benefit from being >= rather than just >. The only time I’ve felt frustrated with stat checks is when I kept running into knowledge > 40 checks when my knowledge was at 40 so they would fail. I end up having to talk to CG about the cat/dog dichotomy rather than what I actually want to pick (nodes, duh) just to get that single knowledge point. So either >= checks or even just more opportunities to gain single points like that would be nice since that doesn’t seem to be too common. Of course, the only reason I know why I failed those checks is because of code diving so maybe it’s just on me? I honestly don’t know if they would have bothered me or not if I didn’t know I missed them by a point, but I’m pretty sure I ended up checking them in the first place because I felt like I should be passing them with a skill of 40.
Mm, I get where you’re coming from. In terms of stabbing, the thing with that is that, well, you’re still going after a monster the size of a car, so the guts check there is so high because you really do need to be physically amazing to pull off going straight at it.
The knowledge check with the computer password may be an issue with how I wrote the failure state, because the password isn’t actually on a sticky note, MC is just making their best guess at what could be a password from sticky notes. Passing the check entails MC remembering an old security breach the DPR had and successfully reverse-engineering the password from it, so it’s more complicated than just picking up the right post it.
With Surpass, being able to hurt her without getting wounded is intentionally a very high guts check. Bear in mind you can still get a positive outcome without inflicting the injury on her; taking her on like that is a major risk that only a MC with very high guts can get away with.
If it helps, the cast page within the game includes brief descriptions. It’s true that I don’t often repeat the details.
Alistair’s descriptions
He sees you a split second after you see him, leaping to his feet—damn he’s tall, and muscular too—and smiles. “Hey there! Uh, promise this isn’t as weird as it looks?”
He has dark skin, glasses, and a clean shave, with his hair drawn back in a neat tail of braids. He’s dressed casually, cargo pants and a white shirt with a red jacket thrown over the top, though he’s also wearing a backpack. Definitely a lot more put together than the average Wesson Parks resident.
Cast page: Appearance: Tall and muscular. Black. Braids his dark hair into a loose tail. A good dresser. Wears glasses.
Oh, uh, the ones that are set to >40 are actually intentionally set with that being the threshold
- the aim was that I wanted them to be passable if knowledge was your main stat or if you’d both taken the restore knowledge option and one of the other minor boosts (two so far, not counting the miscellaneous +1 from false dichotomy). But maybe that is asking a lot of investment; I will say that there are checks also in the middle ground where the threshold is lower than that but higher than if you left knowledge completely alone.
(Thank you folks for the feedback and I’m happy to hear more! This absolutely isn’t set in stone, and I’m not replying to shut you down or anything; just explaining the rationale a bit).
Yeah I could beat Surpass in the second fight without injury which I get is tricky because of the achievement but the starting fight with the knife against the creature I feel is more flavor than anything so Id like to be able to pass without having to main guts. I picked up the knife let me stab with the knife.
Theres only like 2 major boosts to stats so you have to pick them in order to pass the future checks and yeah I ended up with a lot of knowledge and stealth checks being in the less than 37 or 40 threshold by a smidge. If the checks are going to be high for story reasons then simply have more ways to boost your stats
I wanted to play as a smart catious character who did a 180 after the experimentation but I had to main guts in the beginning. When I tried to skip ahead to the masquerade chapter it turns out doing a small boost to my weakest stat (observation) was again one off from the libra check. Tis frustrating.
~ also sad that the self care option was nothing more than mild flavor text I really wanted to pick it but there’s was no reason too especially with the stat checks
This is just a guess/theory but I feel like it’s meant to be a part of a longer process. I mean, Dime isn’t going to recover in such a short time. It’s more like a step towards it. Kinda like how you build stats over time. But again, I’m just theorizing. I picked that option and still didn’t really have issues with stats. But I also left guts be and only focused on knowledge and subterfuge (chose to help Grant in the beginning instead of fighting and then chose to evade Surpass so I didn’t really need it). I mean, I couldn’t pass anything I wanted but it felt logical. Like, some checks were meant to be passed if it’s Dime’s speciality. If that makes sense
Edit: Omg why was my quote broken noo
Yeah but rn theres no advantage to the self care option whereas the stats have a payoff. Idk maybe I had too high expectations
Mechanically, it’s not a wise decision, but I think that’s kind of the point; Dime is stuck in a situation where practically everything they do is for the sake of their mission from who they interact with to what they do in their ‘free time’ (i.e. either increasing their stats or investigating Mal and Dion) with very few opportunities to do for themselves. From a narrative standpoint, this is one of the few options Dime has that’s completely independent of the mission or the coven or any other objective.
Personally I pass on it (because A. I think the idea of Dime slowly breaking down as time goes on is the right kind of tragic, and B. I need a knowledge stat boost), but in the long term, I also think it’ll be part of a longer process that’ll improve Dime’s mental state and well-being for if (big if) they make it out of this no-win situation alive
