The author is just using common sense.
If a character is made to be able to battle the mc,an author should consider the fact that since this is a choice game and all, there should be pathways to win easily, normally or hardly not restrict all fights to a cliff rope walk i.e not near death situations or only barely beating the opponent.
This type of writings are meant for stories not a choice based game.
And from what I know Jade foundation is enough explanation why the mc can beat taio.
What I’m basically saying is that the author did a great job with the availability to win flawlessly or not win at all, it’s not like he’s saying we can defeat mao now,he just doesn’t give other characters that battle the mc unreasonable abilities that the mc can’t acquire.
I have to partly disagree with what you’re saying. There doesn’t necessarily have to be an easy, normal, or hard path; what there should be is a balance of power within the game’s story. For example, in Aura Crash, this isn’t an issue because the power we gain in mortal mode is around 800-1300, so the fights can be written considering that power range (Anything above that is because the cheat mode is being used) so if a much stronger opponent appears than that range, it makes sense for us to have difficulty winning, simply because we are weaker at that moment and our opponent is stronger as long as the game mechanics are respected and not ignored for convenience.
My other response was referring to the person you replied to, not the author.
Again, this is the cheat mode, and the game tells you that many things won’t make sense when playing this mode, so it doesn’t make sense to use it as an example.
I agree with this; so far, there has been a good balance of power within the game.
Even if some opponents had skills that the MC could never acquire, it wouldn’t be a bad thing; it could be due to compatibility or other reasons. The MC doesn’t have to be able to acquire all the existing skills that others can use. Remember, we’re playing basically an ordinary person with a bit of talent, not a genius. If you’re referring to the acquisition of power, the MC is progressing at a good pace, but power and abilities are different things.
I mean the mc being able to turn into a dragon isn’t outside of the realm of possibilities since even in game transformations are a thing, and it’s mentioned that masters from the past were said to be able to turn into dragons.
Also i understand not wanting to ruin the soul of the game, but if these questions annoyed the author i’m sure he would have put his foot down by now, seeing as this thread is over 1000 comments in so theres no need to be rude to people
Maybe I misunderstood your answer but the MC wasn’t even close to Taio’s level and he only beat Taio because he underestimated him throughout the fight and when he realized he was going to lose it was too late and he was forced to use the amulet
Would it make more sense if we imagine the world and enemies scaling up with the mc’s level like rpgs tend to do? I feel like that could kind of help explain away the jack scene, like the jade dragon mc is still a prodigy with a heavenly foundation but jacks been out there juicing himself up for when we face him again.
Not so much because even if you play with the Jade Foundation, you can end up below 2000 AP if I recall correctly, and the highest would be 3k+. It’s a big difference to try to find logic for it in the game.
And even if Jack’s scene made sense with the Jade Foundation, the other scenes don’t, and I’m not just talking about Chapter 5 and the reason would be that the MC’s companions don’t scale with the MC’s level if we use this case.
Aoyusumu Has some cool stuff in the last fight. But the reasons it’s not my favorite are it doesn’t synergize with any of the backgrounds like the others do. Also it’s called sacred chi and is related to the temple but no explanation into the religion. Becoming a saint would be cool though.
In my case, this is the best part for me, as I understand that with this style, you gain extra AP in some cases, allowing me to choose any job without worrying about synchronization. If it weren’t for the fact that Akekiru synchronizes with the blacksmith, I would definitely prefer to go for the trapper profession to gain the Roc companion.
Fighting tiao near the end and I chose to “go over top to blast him” an this is what happened “You rise high above the blood cultist and charge a two-handed energy blast from above him, surging all your hostile chi onto him in a reinforced {auracolor} explosion.” I chose the option to combine my colors before this.
I used to go for blacksmith until i found out that trapper gets you a roc companion now i go for that almost everytime, the combo attacks with it are super cool and all but i’m hoping in the future we can ride on it, imagine making a grand entrance to the trials by soaring in on the back of a baby stormbird and seeing jacks face when he remembers almost getting torn to shreds by it’s mother.
Cultivator-anon this last update was just amazing: The most incredible part about the duel with Tiao is not how balls-against-the-wall the entire sequence and the buildup towards it is, but that somehow you managed to make it fit in what has been so far a pretty low-level cultivation story without breaking your own rules. The phasing is easily one of the strengths of this WIP and this small saga displayed it clearly.
Eager to see what adventures our cast of missfits and sociopaths will have in the sea. Most fun I had with a CYOA in a loooong time.
At the End I said “Damn that was really fucking cool” out loud to myself. This is freaking amazing and I absolutely love it. One question though, can we romance Tian Feng and Desmonda later in the game or did I just screw something up?
Author said that proper romances will get more focus in chapter 6 or 7, so there will be more chances in the future. We can meet and flirt with both Tian Fang and Desdemona early on however, the first one during the Gate capture before the journey and the second during the bandit hunting mission and the journey if you enter the tavern, but there isn’t proper romance yet.
Oh, also I think that you need to practice the beast style to meet Fang again during chapter 5.
