To pass the time while I wait for the Update to be made Public, anyone’s got any good Cultivation Manhwa recommendations?

Something with an actual plot and/or intersting three-dimensional characters. Not one of those power fantasies with the generic MC and a bunch of side-cast with a personality as flat as that of a cardboard.

Anybody wanna share their personal favourites?

I liked Peerless Dad and Login Murim personally. There’s also the Necromancer Ranker Reincarned in the Murim one too that was nice

It’s gonna be hard to NOT get overpowered to an extent since it’s the point of cultivation, the MC is TRYING to become overpowered.

See I don’t have a problem with the concept of a Power Fantast, or an Overpowered Protagonist itself. Aura Clash is a Power Fantast, but it’s also one of my favourite CoG games/stories I’ve played cause it gets it right.

Essentially, I want to see the Protagonist struggle for the power so that it actually means something when they achieve it—if your story has 100 chapters and chapter 1 has the MC’s goal being becoming the strongest, I don’t want them to become Overpowered by chapter 20 just cause you’re the MC, and then just flex on people for the rest of the story.

Also, thanks for the recommendations, gonna go check them out now :+1:

What this for?

Not a manhwa but a novel. Reverend Insanity is the best xianxia I’ve read.

yes unfortunately the Chinese government banned it

Invincible at the start was really good too. But unfortunately that got smacked. Some of those themes would mesh so well with AC.

I love how this thread basically is becoming a novel recommendation discussion.

I wholeheartedly endorse it, distracts you guys while I write.

It’s really a shame most actual cultivation game only focus on having 50000 billion procedurally generated techniques (which are honestly just stat and color swap of the same 10 moves) than on story, combat or cultivation mechanics (or gameplay in general).

Only game I know that doesn’t fall into those pitfall is Wulin and it’s mostly because it’s a more classic tactical RPG in terms of gameplay and even then do the ‘palette / rank swap’ technique gimmick to a much lesser extent (and I don’t think it’s gonna be very successful worldwide because the international release is called ‘Hero’s Advenure: Road to Passion’, which make it sound like a shovelwar erotica).

Well, there’s always Amazing Cultivation Simulator for a broader experience.

True but that one has the opposite problem of only focusing on Cultivation mechanics. It would really need a better story or better combat mechanic to be a really solid cultivation experience.

A good cultivation game I really enjoyed was Tale of immortal.

Mhm… I found that one to be too grindy. Immortal Way of Life (觅长生) is my favourite, you can subscribe to the English translation mod on steam workshop, but you’ll have to join the mods discord to get some optional updated UI fixes and translations.

Edit: Instead of making another post, I’ve just made a list of Wuxia/Xianxia (Cultivation/Martial Arts) games I’ve played that others may be interested in.

  • Immortal Way of Life (觅长生)
  • Tales of Immortal
  • Scroll of Taiwu
  • Path of Wuxia
  • Tale of Wuxia
  • Hero’s Adventure
  • Matchless Kungfu
  • Wandering Sword
  • Floating Life 2

Wuxia/Xianxia farming/city builders:

  • The Leviathan’s Fantasy
  • The Lost Village
  • Immortal Life
  • River Town Factory

Card based Wuxia/Xiania games:

  • Traveler of Wuxia
  • YiXian

I did like it too but all the moves were the same, combats didn’t really feel like a martial art or cultivation thing and you just did the same grind for every breakthrough.

It’s definitely flawed.

Never heard of it, steam pictures look kinda interesting at least.

Part of the problem is it’s kinda hard to balance a story about multiple world destroying entities struggling in a power up match to see who can become stronger than the rest with a gameplay that’s predominantly about fighting with martial arts techniques and godly powers so instead they focus on the cultivation aspects and make it into an incremental game because it’s just easier to do so.

It’s really a shame because with the advent of this and PoMA it really opens up the potential of a game like this and it made me crave more cultivation games, but all of them are essentially the same incremental games but with a different format. The only game that i felt at the very least spice things up a bit is Sands of Salzaar but it focuses more on army building than cultivations, i don’t think it’s even a cultivation game in general more like a Kenshi or Mount & Blade type game but to me personally it felt the most like it. Unfortunately it’s unfinished (another problem with these types of games in general) so there’s that
