There’s a one eyed orangutan type mythic beast in many myths. And there are some close to normal animals like Erymanthian Boar, Hel Taurus, The Huan which is a one eyed, four eared, three tailed cat like mythic beast. Or any type of Huang beast or xiao beast of Chinese myths.
White Haired Gorillas and Primates also tend to be considered magical or mythical.
Making a new magic beast is pretty easy when you think about it, just make a real animal bigger than usual and albino.
Or any unnatural color… Or add some even more unnatural body parts or remove some usual body parts… Like single eyed, singled limbed, slithering body without limbs, stuff like that.
Lol the IF I am working on has seven paranormal/mythical creatures/beasts to choose from for each power set and Shadow Jackal is one of 'em… And slime. Each has three different of kind of evaluations as MC gets more powerful in the specific power category.
A system that could be fun would be a system kind of like RE:Monster or ‘Reincarnated as a Dragon’ or Digimon, where monsters have a few diverging evolution path you can choose from or unlock with special conditions.
Especially since you could also use that system in a game where the player himself is one of those monsters / was reincarnated as one.
And it could easily be retooled for more ‘classic’ stories, like with Roleplaying games and ‘prestige class’.
Will it be possible to have had a childhood crush on Kiyoko that matured into love? I’ve always liked friends to lovers in fiction.
Yes! Actually, (spoilers for Kiyoko roommate route in end of chapter 2) there is an option to realize you’re in love with Kiyoko. If that moment didn’t feel right, there will also be more opportunities in the future. In the next update, you’ve reminded me I wanted to add an option for, like you said, childhood crush THEN love, rather than the immediate love realization! Choosing any of these options will eventually switch on a variable that changes your interactions. But you can still romance Kiyoko (or…Kiyoko can still romance you!) even if you don’t say you’re in love with him/her.
I wanted to play with some tropes, including enemies to lovers with Luce and friends to lovers with Kiyoko. I hope this answer pleases you! Because I’m a real sucker for those, too.
Thank you so much for reading!!
This actually reminded me that I haven’t explained the bashful/brazen stat yet! If you’re interested, you can read below.
Bashful/Brazen and romantic interactions
There will be many opportunities throughout the game to raise/decrease your bashful/brazen stat. Generally, bashful will increase if you usually allow others to do things, like having Carris catch you and letting your roommate knock first, and brazen will increase if you usually are the initiator (just the opposite of the aforementioned choices.) If your bashful stat is greater than 50, in the future when you have scenes with your chosen RO, they will be the ones to, for example, make the move to hold your hand, and then you’ll have a choice to either squeeze back or pull your hand away. And if brazen is greater than 50, YOU will have the choice to hold their hand or do nothing (RO will always reciprocate, granted you haven’t completely insulted them and their relationship stat isn’t horrible.)
I felt like, quite often in these kinds of games, MC is always the one to make the move, or occasionally the RO is the only one to make the move, and there isn’t really a choice between the two. I know I like having the option of what kind of “role” you prefer to play in a relationship, so I hope this system is enjoyable for you all and that it adds a layer of realism or customization in how you romance your favorite character.
I just wanted an excuse to ramble and share a future feature I thought was fun…so, I hope you all like the concept! Thanks for sticking around once again!!
Kiyoko’s character was why i first had the idea of potentially combining a friendship or romance with a ‘weird’ familiar choice that got me start comment in the thread.
I just watch the anime Sasaki to Miyano last night and because of that, I think I’m in love with Lucilia…
I like this, very roleplay flavored, also fitting into manga/anime style of character being shy or confident. I wonder if something similar for being oblivious to romantic feelings/attempts could be done too, for the classic humor scenes almost traditionally involving dense isekai protagonists at this point.
/But you can still romance Kiyoko (or…Kiyoko can still romance you!) even if you don’t say you’re in love with him/her./ To me it felt K already began the romancing in barely mentioned childhood, including the very first meeting for the player to be witness of
Actually, i restarted the game just to see if you made the hand holding scene funnier or simply different if you pick being a giant compared to tiny Kiyoko. (I like short chibi girls and is one of my fetishes)
These are all great!
Little Details!
If I add them, it’d probably be in the final draft. Right now, I’m going back into chapter 2 and seeing opportunities where I can change MC choices/responses based on your personality choice. It’s things like that where I decide “Okay, I’m done with the main story, time to add fun new paths and little Easter eggs that make your choices matter even MORE.”
Kiyoko and PDA
I think Kiyoko is just an affectionate person. I tried to make it so that depending on the main character’s feelings, it can be interpreted either way. If Kiyoko’s relationship stat sucks and you try to be in love with him/her, there will probably be an unrequited love situation as well. You’ll also notice that if Kiyoko isn’t your best friend, or you don’t like hugging, he/she won’t try those things anymore (nor will any of the other RO’s! I got you, ace friends.)
Anime-inspired? And tropes
It always felt a little anime-inspired to me; it wasn’t originally intentional, but I’ve tried to sink into it and play off of it since then. Now, I think the game as a whole is intended to be one big trope-fest, but when you dive deeper you discover it’s more than that. I want to take these tropes and give them dimension.
Also, a quick heads up the characters are 17-18 human years and not fully fledged adults. If you romance one…it’ll be PG! I paused at “fetish”
Thank you so much for allowing me to ramble though… You guys ask me a question and I give twenty answers. I just love talking about my writing process and my ideas for this world and these characters. I put them under a summary in case you’re not here for that, but if you are… seriously, thank you!!!
Ooooh, I am LOVING this so far!!! I have SO many questions but I suppose I will just wait and see how things develop for now. Can’t wait for the next update
Thank you so, so much oh my goodness!!! Hey, if they’re plothole or worldbuilding questions, I’m always happy to help! But if it’s story… you all shall see
Thank you so much for reading!!
I tried this and the one thing that immediately comes to mind is that I would like some options that are more along the lines of “generally polite”. Take this interaction, for example:
The options here are “enthusiastic friendliness”, “rudely leaving him hanging”, “bashful speechlessness” and another flavor of “rudely leaving him hanging”. Can’t I just shake his hand and say “I’m John, nice to meet you” or something along those lines?
Also, that dude keeps calling you stuff like “cakes” and “biscuit” or whatnot and I’d really like to be able to tell him to knock it off. TBH, I don’t really care if he actually does knock it off, I just want the option to tell him to stop.
Hey, that’s what I said.
You sorta do. At the end of that interaction he asks you about what nickname he should give you, and you can say “just use my name, dude”.
Really? He just named me “Posie” and walked away ! I don’t mind, I think it’s sweet
Thank you so much for the feedback!! As Bento mentioned this as well, it’s been noted and will be implemented next update!
I think I want to tweak Carris’s first interaction as a whole with these notes. Or maybe publish a couple more chapters where you get to know him and take it from there. For spoiler-y character reasons, he comes on strong when you first meet him and mellows out the more time you spend with him. But the first impression can deter readers from pursuing his route. So, if any of you have feedback, I’d love to hear it and think it over some more!
Regardless, it is definite that I will add more neutral-positive-polite interactions and also an option to turn down his advances completely. It’s my last wish to make someone genuinely uncomfortable!
Thank you, truly!!
Actually… if you choose a default name option, I created unique nicknames for all of them. If you entered your own name, he asks what you’d like to be called. I was already thinking about giving the option for those who chose a preset name, but I also wanted to maintain the original idea.
I also had the thought to have him slowly phase out of using cheesy nicknames and phase into using your name more the closer you get. Something like he’d say he grew to like saying your name. But again, people might be deterred from his first impression and may not play his route long enough to see this.
I’m rambling now, but your feedback is always much appreciated! It’s incredibly important to me to nail the characters as best I can, and your thoughts help with that more than I can express!
I actually love all the cute nicknames! I can tell he does it out of fun/endearment, and not cause he’s condescending. I also love that they’re all things I would expect to see at a tea party
I think a cute way to do it is have him use our real name during serious/romantic moments (once the relationship gets there), and a nickname during normal every day life. That’ll keep up the cute stuff, but also help emphasize the tone shift. I don’t personally have a problem with tone shifts in writing, but it seems like a plausible problem people might have
ETA: and maybe an option at some point to get rid of the nicknames. I love them, but not everyone does
