Here’s a quote from the author that answers your question
Isn’t a kitsune and basically everything else encountered mythical creatures, and can’t dragons, kirin also take human form?
Not demands at all; I love it too! I appreciate your comments always!!
I had something like that in previous versions of the games, but eventually, I decided it would be okay if exact descriptions were left to the reader’s imagination. I also (having written all the RO meetings) originally had some in-depth little physical introduction paragraphs for all of them, but cut them all down. Some things are explicitly written, some you’re welcome to imagine yourself!
Thank you so much again!
Nope! That’s really interesting though, because years ago when I first conceived this idea, I was inspired by Zero no Tsukaima! I’m not sure if it’s still as reminiscent of it anymore, but one of the RO’s in particular is inspired by Montmorency.
That aside, I know there are base definitions for some humanoids that are mentioned, like kitsunes. My logic is just that this is a different world and I use these terms to allow the reader to quickly understand what I’m referring to, but the logic is slightly different. For example, kitsunes cannot turn into foxes like Japanese folklore. But, an aspect of them that is similar is that the number of tails they have denotes their wisdom and intelligence. Something I added in myself is that it’s kind of a celebration of sorts in adolescence to grow a new tail.
I rambled on, but I hope this better illustrates why some species are different from the general definitions of them. If it proves to be too confusing, I’ll definitely change things up to be more clear in the final draft, or use unique names for the species.
Thank you so much for your comment!!
Hi all! Now I feel a bit better about updating since there have been a couple other replies. I don’t like boosting my topic as previously mentioned
I wanted to apologize for the delay! I anticipated being done a lot sooner, but college applications have been a lot more hectic than expected and I’ve wanted to prioritize life stuff and getting rest. I apologize again, you guys have been nothing but wonderful and I thank you so much for reading, leaving feedback, and sticking around! I might still have to take a little longer, but I promise I live!
I’m at about 17k now, wrapping up the entrance ceremony and closing the chapter with some last big choices before ending off the day. I’ll probably end up publishing the chapter before I edit it just to get it out as soon as possible and make an update not long after fixing it up. I usually proofread all my work about fifty times over, but I really hate to leave things hanging much longer.
Thank you everyone so much again. I really apologize for the inconvenience. I hope you enjoy when it’s up!
So we are the only human?
Yes!
I really enjoyed this!I’m excited to see how things will go with our MC being the odd creature and I’m also wondering if we’ll meet the birth parents at some point. You are doing a good job so far and hope you’ll continue this story!
I really enjoyed your story, I can’t wait for when we go to interact with our familiar. I wish you all the best and hope we have a new chapter soon
Glad to hear a little background info, it is fine, glad you actually know my referred series!
So, i am also a pen and paper rpg-er (d&d, etc) which is why i wondered about the familiars and the situation of protagonist in this world. Magic to travel between worlds and planes exist in some game systems, and one typical core aspect of summoning/familiars/servitude is that one can’t magically bind someone from the same ‘home world’ (planar plane) than themselves, so as example an angel could not have another angel as familiar, or a human another human… unless that other human is not native to that world or plane. This usually also plays a role in ritualistic / demonic summoning. (which isekai stories sometimes already use to get a protagonist / hero to places)
If i get this right, our character here is the foreign element, which i thought may open the possibility to either get a native humanoid familiar, or perhaps become familiar to someone else. Obviously it is up to you if you do something like this with your story, but i admit i’d enjoy it as an option to make a close friend a familiar, even if possibly in story only as last option to save the life of that friend ( or love interest).
Oh my, thank you so much it means more to me than you know!! I hope you enjoy and stick around, thank you for reading!!!
That is actually a really, really interesting idea. I will say now that I currently have the whole first book outlined and that’s not where I was planning on taking things, but I genuinely hadn’t considered doing a Saito-Louise situation where your chosen RO/friend would be your familiar, or vice versa. That’s a very intriguing avenue to take and I will tell you now I love it and thank you for sharing it with me!!!
I absolutely adore hearing everyone’s interpretations of the world. I hope things become clearer the more things go on; my current plans are vague because the demo is so short at the moment. But I hope the more I write, the more I can convey my vision. And perhaps even incorporate elements of all of your fantastic ideas. Thank you so much again!!
In the very last home stretch now!! I’ve been saying that, but as we speak I am quite literally writing the last scene of chapter two (clocking in at, I estimate, 24k.) However, it is a scene that changes depending on a bigger choice you make, so I have to write four (technically five) versions of this ~500 word scene, THEN close everything out with just a few unchanging paragraphs.
Fair warning it will be uploaded MESSY. Again, I usually edit my work a ton of times over before posting a new chapter, but I will instead edit and add/change things in a later update because I’ve already taken far too long with this one. Please expect the new chapter soon! I am so genuinely sorry it’s not funny… Thank you guys for your patience and kindness. Can’t wait to finish it!
whoots
Dear lord, it’s done! I am so, so sorry for the wait. Your patience and kindness means more than I can say. I’m going to focus on my academics for a little while, but I’ll most certainly make some more progress in November and December. And after the New Year, I’ll have a ton of time to write! Alright, with that out of the way, here are some fun notes! (Very minor spoilers for some choices and RO’s)
Chapter 2 Details (mild spoilers)
- You won’t be locked in to romance whoever you select as your roommate. You’ll be hanging around all of the cast together at some point, so pick whoever you want! You might get a few more scenes with your chosen roommate, though.
- Boring note, but in particular I’m anticipating some pacing issues that come with not editing/playtesting. My apologies in advance! This and much more will be fixed eventually.
- You can completely alter MC’s and Luce’s interactions by going down an enemies to lovers path! Trope lovers, rejoice! If you want to know how to trigger it, read the spoiler below–or, keep it a secret! (May either change in future updates or be removed, depending on feedback and how things work out logistically)
When bumping into her, after Luce asks if you are alright, simply select any of the LAST three options. Then, when asked to truce, say no. There is an opportunity to change the route back if you selected Luce as your roommate, but probably none after that.
In conclusion, a lot happened in this chapter. I’m a bit nervous publishing this as I’m trying to do everything right and make the story fun and enjoyable to play/read; in particular, since they’re such a huge focal point of the game, I want to make all of the characters likable in their own unique way. If you have feedback on them, please feel free to let me know. I’m still attempting to nail down writing the RO’s and all of their quirks, so as a result, some of their interactions might not have come off as intended. Your thoughts are, as always, incredibly helpful!
Thank you all, not only for reading but for being so amazing, kind, creative, everything! I hope you enjoy this one, though I apologize I’m still finding my footing at the moment.
Thank you so much again!!
I do not have a coherent feedback, I just want to say that I’m in love with everything. The way you write is just…so delicious! Meeting new characters and seeing the academy was pure joy.
Chapter two-fer
Could use an option for a normal handshake here, I feel.
“We have patrols and a bit of a magic field here to protect you,” the administrator assures. “It holds.”
That’s great to hea-
“Mostly.”
Ah.
I can already tell Lu is going to be a riot.
Oh, I DEFINITELY need to get Carris and Gwen in close proximity to one another. Only after I’ve acquired a suitable supply of popcorn, though.
Why is this curfew for my safety? What is dangerous about the Academy at night? Watson, a mystery is afoot. And at hand. We must put our heads - and hearts - to it. And kidneys, too, got to have good kidneys for mystery solving, of course. And one mustn’t forget the pancreas.
Long airship trip: I’m fine.
Traipsing along campus: I’m fine.
Student collision: I’m fine.
Overlong, long-winded speech of inane platitudes: Absolutely drained.
Completely relatable.
I was half-expecting Hall choice to affect stats, but it didn’t. If that’s intended, we’re all good; if that’s not intended, there’s some coding hiccup.
Aaah, so torn on roomie choice between Lu and Ki. Gonna try out Lu, I think. Also, Loneheart is a VERY unfortunate surname for this girl.
(btw, if you’re still taking familiar suggestions, I can’t believe I forgot about best horse, and it flies, too: the Nightmare)
(shit, any Magic card with the type “Nightmare Horse” is just a bonkers awesome image, isn’t it?)
Ahh!!! Your feedback means so much to me! And it also made me giggle a fair bit, thank you for that. I hope all made sense. If some reactions from MC felt out of place, or it felt like there should be a “hmm, this is a little insane” line somewhere, I’d like to make MC as relatable as possible, so I may do that.
That aside, THAT’S SICK. I am so totally gonna add that. It would be so cool as a Pegasus counterpart of some sort!!
You’d be right. Towards the end of the chapter, there are not many stat changes as there should be. It takes me probably too long to decide what stats make sense to raise/lower. This will be fixed in the new update!
And also, I’m happy someone likes Luce. I will divulge she has always been my personal favorite. Fairies also earn their surnames… so unfortunate indeed.
Thank you endlessly again!!
Oh my… Regardless, you’ve effectively motivated me and boosted my ego all in one. In all seriousness, thank you so so much!! I hope you enjoy!
I mean, if you entertain me, it feels only fair I try to entertain you back.
OOOOOOF!!!
My pleasure!
