Windmere Academy (for Masters and Their Familiars) (WIP, updated 2/25/23)

Not gonna lie, regardless if other MC species are in, I’m going to play a human anyway, so, generally speaking, I don’t personally care either way if other species are available. HOWEVER, you make it sound like non-human MCs would result in a different plot that you originally intended. Do you feel like this plot is better? Worse? Because that’s the question whose answer ACTUALLY matters.

whatever species my character is in, i wouldn’t really care. but if you want to implement diff species it’d be fun if the different routes affect the story, like if u choose this species it can have its own subplot or smth like that.

I loved it, Dear Author!!! I can’t wait to give you my money for this!

This story is amazing, I loved everything of it, especially my best friend LOL (I really like that we have even nicknames <3 )

and if we can suggest familiars:
Phoenix:

Thunderbird:

Shisa (Chinese Lion Dogs)

Kirin (Mythical creature of good omen)

Kirin are already familiars that exist in-game, so that’s covered: they were the parents’ familiar.

Shisa DO look nice, and I’m a fan of thunderbirds (though that doesn’t extend to phoenices, so that might just be by fondness for lightning aesthetics speaking).

oh, right, thank you xD

here another few familiars LOL

Chimera (not sure if someone suggested that already)

Jackalope

Amarok (Unlike to werewolves they are mystical creatures from birth)

Bunyip (mythical creature from Australia)

Cat-Sith

Cath Palug (monstrous cat from both French and Welsh mythology)

Bakeneko (monster cat from a Japanese legend)

These are all such AMAZING ideas!!!

Firstly, since it is becoming a common comment/question, here is the list of possible familiars, from my planning note. Though, I’m always excited to add more; currently, there’s no reason not to!

Familiars

Traditional dragon, wyrms, wyverns, drakes, western dragons (family situation)
Pegasus
Hellhound
Quetzalcoatl
Chimera
Griffin
Phoenix
Basilisk
Hydra
Kirin

Secondly, you’ll see above some notable creatures from other cultures’ folklore and mythology (kirin and quetzalcoatl off the top of my head.) I especially love your ideas because I want to incorporate these fascinating creatures as much as possible. My main intention is to handle it as respectfully as possible though, since I do not belong to a majority of these cultures, so that’s also something that will absolutely change with feedback. However, I very much hope to incorporate other cultures’ mythical creatures–not just the mainstream ones–into the game. I hope you don’t mind if I end up making use of your wonderful suggestions.

Thank you so much for commenting and for playing!!

Keys fans, what on earth brought you out of the woodwork?! So happy to have you here! And I’m happy about the new name too. Thank you so so much for reading and sticking by for so long. It’s so crazy to me but also makes me so very happy.

Not different plot per se, but some things that made the plot make sense would have to change–and making the plot make sense is important to me. But I’m overall just worried about people finding the game and going, “oh drat, not another game where MC is the odd one out with no powers/fancy features!” etc. I found a way to make it work either way, but if I’m honest, being human would make more sense (and also make it easier on me since I based most of my plans on it.) However, if switching things up makes the game better in the long run, that’s definitely what I’d like to do. Gah! I feel so awfully inexperienced and easily-swayed as I type this. I thank you for your expert insight. It’s truly very helpful!

That’s actually an excellent idea and I’d love to do that. If that’s indeed what ends up happening, I’ll let you know if I’d like to use this idea so I can give you the proper credit you deserve. Thank you so much!

That’s a great list of familiars. I don’t know a lot about creatures, so I can’t give a specific example, but I think it’d be cool if one of the familiars was a sort of cat. You know, cute and cuddly, but still cool and powerful

please go ahead, I don’t mind, I’m glad you found them wonderful suggestions

I have a few more xD
The Wolpertinger (It is a hybrid of a rabbit, squirrel, deer and – as though that wasn’t enough weirdness already – pheasant, and is said to roam the alpine forests of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg)

Tatzelwurm ( dragon that lives in the Alps. The legendary animal goes by different names in [Switzerland, Italy, and Austria], and descriptions sometimes include that the reptile has a cat-shaped head

Black Shuck (is the name of a ghost dog that roams Norfolk, Suffolk, and other parts of England. It is a large, black canine with flaming red or green eyes, or sometimes just one eye in the middle of its head. If those eyes catch your gaze directly, you are doomed to death within a year.)

Loup Garou (French form of a werewolf. This creature can change from a human into a wolf at will, unlike a werewolf, who is at the mercy of the moon’s phases.)

Fenrir

Tarasque (Dragon-like hybrid from French mythology)

Cockatrice (Two-legged serpent like dragon creature with head of a rooster)

The cockatrice comes with the disadvantage that you can’t, depending on what version of the mythos you’re using, either touch it or look at it. Much like the basilisk and the catoblepas, I’m not sure that’s allowed in a school. :grimacing:

hahaha, I know xD but maybe it would have these powers only when the master wishes for them. (mostly in battle or if the master is in danger) then it wouldn’t be that overpowered and dangerous for all time.

I love this familiar list & as for if the MC stays human or not is entirely up to u. I’m happy to play a human among various mythical beings. As long as it doesn’t mess up ur ideas for the story I’d say go for different species for the MC if u want to. We can still be the odd one out regardless
