I wasn’t even looking for interactive novels but a visual game on playstore, one that dealt with heroes or villain. Saw HOV:Genesis and installed it with little interest . When I started playing it, found out it was actually an interactive novel. Loved it and searched for more.
Because of that first game I am almost halfway done on my path to be a hosted game author.
I will never forget my first. That’s what they say right?
The Great Tournament
My first and still the favorite game. It taught me that doing nothing is also a choice and not a good one, so you better take action.
It must have been either Choice of Zombies, Choice of the Vampire or Choice of Romance - or from HG, OG (and then still not completed) Zombie Exodus There were so few games back in the day.
@janeregina I remember when Choice of Romance and Zombie Exodus were not completely finished! I remember being excited when the next instalments were released. I’m glad to find someone as old as me here…sorry…
2010 - I used to find free games on Newgrounds (I still recommend Sonny , excellent rpg). I got a link from there to Choice of Games…and I was doomed from there….
Wow! I started with Choice of the Dragon as well. It was free and it was perfect for a newbie. I remember being shocked that I could be a real dragon and make decisions that affect the story.
I accidentally stumbled across an advert on the internet when I was looking for something similar to the game books. At the time, I didn’t even know there was a whole genre of interactive literature!
I’ve tried many other COG games since then, but Choice of the Dragon will forever be special!
Did anyone else start out with dragons? Or did you have a different first game?
my first was grim and i. it was my first time playing a text-only IF. i remember being like 12-13, finding it while scrolling through the playstore and immediately falling in love with it after reading the first few chapters. bought the full game within minutes. 20 now. time really passes when you’re having fun.
I’m not blind and I’ve never used a screen reader, nor do I know anyone who uses one, so I’m no expert. But to my knowledge, there’s nothing special you need to do to make a ChoiceScript game playable by screen reader. Although you might want to avoid using a lot of emojis and special characters, which screen readers may not handle well.
For the record, most operating systems (Linux I don’t know of) come with in-built screen readers, so chances are you don’t even need to install anything extra if you just want to test how your game works with one.
