War of Genealogy: Hunter Sky (WIP) - Seeking Feedback

It’s no problem as usual!

There’s no need to rush it, these things take time so do it at your own pace! It’s so easy to get burned out otherwise.

Yeah, I have some familiarity with FF so it’s cool to know I was spot on! I think your solution is a good one, some RPG-like elements with descriptive storytelling can be an amazing combination.

One way to limit being too OP could be that we can only learn powers within the same category as the first one we picked. So if we picked the fire-based power, we would only be able to learn powers based on other elements. You can also limit the amount of powers we can learn, like 2-3 maximum. Another way to avoid it could be that we can only upgrade our initial power into a more powerful version. Having more than one power could have more drawbacks, like higher risk of fatigue or just the fact that the MC wouldn’t be able to master so many powers in such a short time (so we would essentially just be a master of nothing in the end). Absorbing powers from other Chikaras could lead to an uncontrolled bloodlust, and so on. Since the MC is still a child it’s much easier to avoid creating a too OP character. Once the MC is older however, it can get a little more complicated.

I personally think that having at least some possibility of becoming a badass is the way to go, you just have to plan out which type of scenarios that would prove to be a challenge based on the powerset that we have. We shouldn’t have any issues against regular people, but other Chikaras should be a threat - though our character should be an equal threat against them once we have gotten training. It all depends on where you want to take the story.

It can be quite difficult to find a good balance, so I hope that some of my suggestions can help!

These are very useful suggestions. I can see the possibilities with these. Lol why didn’t I think of this😌

The only recommendation I have, as of currently, is to increase the save slot count (for futureproofing), and change the part of the save plugin code line that says “mygame”, as that’s just an example placeholder; like the line on a form where you fill in a blank.

You want to add your own name to make the saves unique to your project; otherwise, you’re sharing saves with every other demo that doesn’t change the “mygame” part to a custom identifier.

Bro really has us doing math😭

At least it was very easy

What if you have to be at a certain strength/ability level to use the higher level scrolls/powers or they damage you more than they aid you? Burning yourself out/killing yourself/losing the ability to use a limb or sense could all be realistic consequences for using a power too strong for you to wield, let alone the propensity to hurt or kill anyone near (or far) when you do it. You don’t pick up a weapon too powerful for you or bad things happen.:woman_shrugging:

I see thanks for the suggestion! More save slots it is

Heeeeeey!!! You’re right too! I already got this idea but I realized some new stuff that I could do ad well.

Lool😂 I knew math wouldn’t really be on anyone’s mind when playing a game, so I wanted to give you guys a little surprise. As Krieg said, I tried to make it kinda simple

Hey guys! I’m about finished with chapter five so you can except it between today and tomorrow. This one will be an introduction to most of the main characters.

As for those of you who are waiting on the main plot and antagonists to arrive, don’t fret, they’re on their way all right. I want to get you guys familiar with minor things in the world before things get out of hand lol.

Doing the jump kick against Jirell causes infinite loading

Fixed! Thanks for pointing it out. Sometimes you just can’t catch em all on your own lol.

Aww man, just when I thought I’d finally get to beat Jirell’s butt I get interrupted! Better luck next time for my MC

I didn’t expect to go to class with some of the cast from Fire Emblem, once I realized I thought it was absolutely hilarious. I hope we get some more interactions with the whole bunch and a chance to become true comrades with them, they seem fun! Lea really shone here, and Kelly was just how I imagined him to be, an absolute delinquent lmao. You’ve done great with the characters, they all have such distinct personalities and they are all fun in their own way (yes, even Jirell, as insufferable as he can be).

If you don’t mind me asking, how is the game going to play out romance-wise? I saw there is a potential “crush” option in the relationship tab, and I assume since everyone is young at this point that it won’t play a huge part, but maybe once they grow up? On the same note, I can sort of guess who the ROs might be, but if it’s not too much of a spoiler maybe you can add them to your initial post in the thread, along with a description of them? In general, I think adding some more information about the characters and the features of the game could help new readers decide if they want to read your story.

I so enjoyed reading your feedback! Yes, I took a few names from FE when I couldn’t think of any more authentic names. It’s amazing that you know the OG Fire Emblem, Shadow Dragon was my fave btw what’s yours?

Yep! but don’t worry. You’ll have other chances to get your revenge on Jirell. As for the other classmates, I intend to have activities and conversations that increase relationships and bonds with them like in FE: Awakening. As for the romance, yes, I do plan to include romance, but it wouldn’t be while the main chars are so young. You can have a crush on someone right now at that point in the game. While they are tweens/early teens you can have crushes, but in the next time skip when they reach 15/16 you can have romance options with other characters around your age group. I am glad you like the characters btw, really motivating feedback indeed.

The problem here is that the male MCs have limited romance options while the female MCs would have many. One obvious reason is that there is a school full of boys, plus the towns.

The males will have four characters that they can romance, so to balance it out, the females will have the four best options as well, casting aside the rest as just normal characters.

True! I really should update the synopsis. Thanks!

Thank you for the detailed answer!

Awakening was my first FE game and it holds a special place in my heart, so an Awakening-like bonding system sounds quite nice! My favorite game is Three Houses because of the characters and storytelling. I sadly haven’t played any of the pre-Awakening games since most of them are hard to get and you might need an emulator, but I’ve watched a lot of gameplay videos and learned about the characters through FE Heroes. I do have Shadow Dragon on my Switch though, just need to find some time to play it!

Both of these options are broken

Awesome! I love Awakening as well and still play it from time to time. I haven’t played three houses yet, but it’s definitely on my to play list.

I think the old FE games are easy to get and emulate, but If you are the type of person who prioritizes graphics, then I wouldn’t recommend playing some of them. The gameplay is awesome and on par with the current titles, but some of them have graphics that aren’t so pleasing to look at. I

Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem have fairly good graphics, so I recommend you give them a try, or the Path of Radiance series with Ike. Lol, look at me nerding off about FE. Anyways, I’ll definitely try to get three houses.
