Walls of Natrun [262k words] [Updated December 25th]

Hello Omeg, I wa wondering if in later updates, the “war status” wil point out the overall quality of the army a MC decided to raise.

This literally had me sniggering on every page, and laughing out loud on a few, which does not happen often, especially at work. :grinning_face:

Some personal favourites:

A man covered in rags approaches a young woman from behind and attempts to pick her pocket, forgetting that female clothes don’t have pockets. – trust humanity to carry their foulest, most annoying habits wherever we expand; :angry:

† Castellan Aaron Death and his crimefighting methods. Though as Pascal Evilbad who publicly swore to make life worse for everyone I probably don’t have a leg to stand on;

Recently, they dug up an ancient play from some ‘Shake-Spear’ guy and modified it to be more brutal and less sickeningly optimistic – that’s about Titus Andronicus; :smiley:

“One by one, those tablets are thrown into a large box as the priest watches intently. One of the Counts gets assassinated. Once all votes have been cast and nobody holds a tablet anymore, Sergi starts tallying the votes.” – just another Tuesday;

† “The Definitely Ethical Automatic Treatment Hospital”;

I think we should oblige. There is no benefit to making the Republic’s bureaucracy more efficient – on trying to shoot a clerk in Uruk. Additionally, love how pulling a gun always leads to absolutely nothing so far; :smiley:

“Isn’t it obvious?” Perun retorts. “You’re playing on easy mode.” – you judgemental elitist asshole! :grin:

So yeah, this is lovely, like black humour Monty Python sketch crossed with fever dream with a dash of Philomena Cunk. :slight_smile:

I’ve been sitting on Saturnine for a while because it said in the thread there are gonna be some updates, but if it is more of this I’m afraid I’ll give in.

P.S.: forgot about non-standard game overs, they’re hilarious, every IF game should something like that.

She’s fine. Anyone who survived in the Lower City for more than a week will find an Upper City villa a rather comfortable place, even as a servant.

They’re finished. I just forgot to remove the “work in progress” tags on account of being dumb.

No, no, and no. These are all exclusive options, so as to increase replayability.

Right now, there is nothing that prevents you from romancing multiple characters at once. In the future, I might make some combinations inviable, but you’ll always be able to (for example) romance Elvira alongside another character.

Not in the current version.

It’s not a matter of technological limits or cost, it’s just that armored vehicles are not terribly useful when you expect street fighting in your own city. I might add an option to build some tanks, but I struggle to think of ways to make that option pay off.

I imagine a sci-fi equivalent of a stereotypical Roman legionnaire loadout. Body armor, a bone sword, a laser rifle instead of javelins, and a grenade in case things get really bad.

That’s an excellent idea. The problem is, I wasn’t smart enough to think about that.

“Overall quality” is a very vague metric, one I wouldn’t know how to measure. The whole point of the latest chapters is that unit quality is situational, and that you can only win by assigning the right force to the right task.

In the grim darkness of far future, there are only form-fitting trousers.

I got that one from a reddit comment.

@Firefront should mind control you.

I’m up for that. My mind is mostly stress, bad story ideas and Heroes of Might and Magic III strategies. If someone sees any value in controling it, they can go right ahead.

You play that game?

I sure do. We can talk about it on my discord server if you’d like, or even on the forum DMs. I’ve cluttered this thread enough already.

Since permission was granted, I command your mind from this point on to be filled with stress, bad story ideas, Heroes of Might & Magic strategies AND the uninterrupted playing of your most hated song.

Good Day.

I mean, if you chose to raise a “fairly elite” army of nobles, the war status only shows them as a small force of about 3 thousand I think? There’s also the option for a army of better quality but smaller force which is implied to have better quality compared to options like a huge conscription campaign and war status only represents it through numbers…

If we only romance Elvira will we be able to actually marry them instead of them just being a concubine/lover/girlfriend?

Good news, the final update (or what I sure hope is the final update) to Saturnine just came out. No reason to keep holding out, unless you’re waiting for a Christmas sale or something.

I get you, but in the case of the regular army, most of that “quality” comes from morale, which is already coded-in and presented. I might give different army variants situational bonuses later on, but I maintain that a straight-up quality meter would be reductive.

Sure. There’s no law that forbids the head of state from spitting on the concept of political marriage and wedding a random freedwoman. Or at least no law anyone can make you obey.

waited until i played saturnine to play this one, which was unnecessary in retrospect but did mean i got to time it well with the update so that is a win.

both are excellent, really looking forward to more!

Ok then.

Nah, bought it on the launch sale, just haven’t been playing. Thanks for update!

Forgot to mention, I’m really digging romances here, very realistic. :grinning_face:

There’s a bug. I managed to strike a deal with Autarch, but then the game treats it as if I didn’t happen

I think the dialogue option where you ask for help with the shield is bugged. I’ll have that fixed in the next update, until then you can just skip over that choice.

noticed that Farai’s dialogue cuts off weirdly here while code-diving

Fixed.

Btw everyone, my computer broke. I’m forced to pause work on the project until I’ve fixed it, or at least recovered the relevant files.

Please tell me you had backups

Kind of. I have a version of my WIP chapter saved, but it’s not exactly up-to-date. I could recreate the missing bits from memory if I had to, but I’d really rather not.
