Walls of Natrun [262k words] [Updated December 25th]

I get you now. I wrote the ghoul choice in a way that implies nobody gets executed and everyone gets ghouled, which does clash with the choice at the end of Chapter Three. I will get around to rephrasing that sometime.

Is this what the average Jovian army looks like?

Sure enough. Just replace the tank with a field gun for a proper Fourth Legion experience.

I like how that implies that the logistics are so bad they cant even arm their soldiers with firearms

Perhaps that’ll be something we can fix

after the war

or we could make it worse for the funni.

Next thing you know the Jovian legionnaires are fighting with sticks and stones

I mean, we’re poking fun at the Republic’s military here. I imagine Natrun as having relatively decent logistics, if only because they have to arm fewer soldiers and deal with smaller distances.

I applaud you for managing to spell “legionnaires” correctly. I always manage to mess this word up.

Maybe that’s where my disdain for ancient rome comes from.

by their standards?

Well, our character does complain about petitioners trying to backseat us by giving us such suggestions as, among other things, giving firearms to all of our soldiers, so take that as you will

Of course. Nothing in this universe is efficient by any sane standard.

Their exact request was to “replace all swords with firearms” which probably isn’t as good of an idea as it sounds. Swords are sidearms—any soldier equipped with one would already have a main weapon, such as a rifle or a submachine. If they stop using it, that’s either because they ran out of ammo or because their enemy can only be engaged in melee, and giving them more guns is just an expensive way to not address the issue.

In a world were anti-gun technology had a thousand years and a half to develop, replacing all swords with firearms would be like telling a samurai to replace his katana with a second bow. Sure, his new sidearm is a great weapon and probably one he’s more familiar with, but that doesn’t make it good at being a sidearm.

I….I think you just ran through the logic of the development of the bayonet, without arriving at the bayonet and deciding keeping the sword as a sidearm was a better idea…

And I mean bayonets got pretty long, even when they weren’t literal sword bayonets, the blade on the british ww1 bayonet was 43cm:

I am being very very pedantic though, it’s a space fantasy setting where glorified air conditioners are gods and sapient and they hate you, the swords are fine.

I dont think he would do as you say

Oh Perun, they dont even know what a bayonet is

In the author’s defense, the suggestion “replace all swords with firearms” wasn’t “replace all swords with firearms AND bayonets”

Public Update. Chapter Four, with its battles and verbal altercations, is now available to wider public. I was hoping to get a Patreon update ready too, but publishing and bug-fixing Saturnine took up much of my time this month. I’ll prepare some other bonus content in its stead.

In the meantime, you can always join my discord server. I made it a few days back because one of my friends thought I should, and I’m trying to grow it a little. Everyone’s welcome, especially if you’re interested in any of my works and would like to see some bonus stuff.

Just finished playing through the latest chapter and I gotta say, I’m liking how the plot and story for this has been progressing so far, and I dig it a bit more than Saturnite if I’m being honest, although I’m very much incredibly biased with my personal opinions cause I’m more of a “medieval fantasy” sort of guy that also likes kingdom management and building up armies/forces in-game to do things (shout out to some of my favorite games War for the West and the Great Tournament), so my opinion should not be that trusted on which of the two games that you’ve made is better.

Been a while since I’ve played the demo, but I love just how amusing and hilarious some of the scenes and choices are for this game, and a lot of them are just so random that it made me chuckle. Like how in the middle of voting with the nobles, someone just gets assassinated and killed in their midst and no one even bats an eye. Or how you could assign your own horse to do things or even assign shit to your former biggest rival, just to list a few. Overall the vibe is a bit more funny that one would expect at first glance, which is not a bad thing at all.

Even the internal monologues and thoughts of the MC are fun to read a lot of the time, kek.

But anyways, I do have a few questions with certain stuff if you do not mind. Although some of these are not really that relevant in the grand scheme of things for the plot.

-What exactly happens to Kelpie the goblin girl after she becomes a servant to Cecil? The mansion is said to be less dangerous than the Lower City, so she would probably not be killed, hopefully.
-Is the options for recruiting the dragon or the defectors from the biowar still supposed to be described as “still in progress’“ or are they already finished paths?
-Is it possible to pick more than 2 options from the 5 that we are presented with before the war starts? Cause I was able to pick going to the god of storm and lightning dude and blessed with powers by becoming a demigod, and then went to the big honcho of the Republic to try and negotiate, which kind of succeeded to some extent I suppose, but after those two actions I was not able to choose anything else. Are we only able to choose 2 options and nothing more?
-I’m a bit confused with how romance in this game is supposed to work cause throughout the first 3 chapters we are able to flirt extensively with basically every single RO. So like, can we only romance a single one of them in the end, is it possible to have a multiple flings with some of them, or is it possible to romance multiple at the same time?
-Is it not possible to recruit the beastmen and dragon at the same time?
-Is it possible to pick more than 1 option from the zombie-making stuff in the war preparation or are we only able to choose one? Like, it would be cool to get the ghouls along with the mummies.
-Other than making a storm damage the fleet before they land, is there any other option of using the MC’s powers for preparation?
-Will there be future options of getting some cool tanks or armored vehicles to use against the Republic or are those too “advanced” and costly to make?

What type of equipment do the legionnaires have?

I do wonder if after being blessed by Petrun the MC would have some capacity of mind Control, considering brains have eletrical activity, and brain waves are, as a matter of fact, just waves. Everything is waves, waves…
