Itch.io has delisted a bunch of NSFW games last night, which means some titles won’t appear in the Browse or Search, and paused payments for some of its creators. By NSFW, I mean games tagged with nsfw, adult, and other not-safe-for-work tags, but also 18+ label (due to its content, even if not adult content). It’s targetted a bunch of LGBTQ+ pages, btw.
Itch released a statement here.
Threads like this one, sharing the direct links of game, is really important right now for visibility.

An Australian group has been making calls to payment processors to shut down all NSFW games. They even targeted GTA once, so once this is done they will move to games involving violence and other stuff

Long story short bunch of religious activists spammed Mastercard and Visa to censor storefronts that sell “objectification”(think smut games featuring rape, incest and things like that), itch chose just to shadowban every game with NSFW tag. Apparently Itch will review every game and see if it will stay or be removed.

This nsfw situation is so absurd and out of no where, like watching a car accident happen in real time. Has it affected simple interactive fictions without visuals as well? I can see Heart’s Choice games on Steam still indexed, so there is that.

At least from what i read, Steam is operating on “Don’t show, don’t tell” mode. So as long as banned things arent explicitly advertised , it should be ok. How true this is i don’t know .

It actually wasn’t hard to see this coming if you knew where to look.
Only fans has this exact same problem a couple years ago that nearly got them to ban all NSFW content from their platform, (they ended up digging their heels in and reversed the decision since that ban would’ve just killed them anyway)
Pornhub has a different payment processor because the main ones won’t work with them because they were held liable for pornhuv having illegal abuse content a few years ago (tbf I can at least understand why they pulled out of this one)
Absolute nonsense that payment processors are playing the morality police we’ve truly entered the cyberpunk timeline…I want my mantis blades and braindances…

Have not seen anybody recommend SilverBound by Zesna nor Primal by Zesna, both by the same Author. Then there is also my own IF Sorcerer's Eulogy - Catabasis by BeastInTheCave.
The former two games have a hunger games vibe, which is kinda unique when it comes to IF. If I am not mistaken, both games will mostly focus on romance. What is there already is really promising. I am not sure whether the second has been delisted because of itch’s new rules but you can find it on the Author’s page.
My own WIP takes inspiration mainly from A Mage Reborn and Shepherds of Haven, so it takes place in a greco-roman fantasy world with some twists. Like the roman/bizantine empire being the orcs of the setting.
