The Wayhaven Chronicles: Book Three (WIP -FINAL DEMO)

huh?

What are you talking about? You lost meh…

Also, I’m SOOO Bored…I’m about to do M…(Gag) Sexmance

Dragon age and the Pokémon franchising are a perfect example of “it sells so who cares lol” but that’s just my opinion :v: happy to those who enjoyed the books from start to finish, wish that were me

This! If you’re on a N bff route, A motivation is that people will use the MC to hurt them because the MC is their weakness and N is like “you’re weakness is already showing”, and I’m like how isn’t that obvious to A when everyone we met whether at the facility or in town knows A has feelings for the detective? Make it make sense :sob:

I hate this advice. It’s boring. I like adverbs. I like to read adverbs. I’m sick of people saying how things should “always” be.

IMO, you aren’t wrong. I would love that. All the chuckling in this game is one of the things that grates. My M-mancer doesn’t chuckle, unless it’s because of something inappropriate or dark. I write that shit out in my head.

Yeah, it just came off as, “I was hurt before and can’t take it again. You just aren’t worth the pain!” To which, my MC was like, “Okay. Bye.” slams door

M’s progression was smooth and made sense. And M is awesome, so…

When you settle on that, please share with me. My A-mancer is so over it at this point. She figures if this is what having a soulmate brings you, the world can keep it.

How are you just now realising that people will release subpar sequels because they know they’ll sell anyway when you’ve played the Dragon Age series?

I still think the prize goes to EA’s sports series: one every year, and one time they didn’t even bother changing the date in logo so it still showed the previous year.

But baaaaaack on topic:

It can’t - you managed to pick the ONE thing the MC’s blood doesn’t fully protect against. But what you apparently can do is control their trauma-induced panic attacks with the MC’s PRESENCE, and that might neuter the pheromone blast. So, y’know, your prize for the first sentence is that now you and M are Agency-mandated to be around each other.

Agree, though admitedly I’d like for Wayhaven people to bark less.

F: And this is what happens: throws saltshaker over her shoulder

yeah, I don’t think that is it.

I got that N think it was that simple, but it really isn’t.

I don’t think A is afraid of say for example that the Mc get kidnapped, or hurt.

The only thing that can create the kind of fear A is feeling is death…and knowing that you utterly failed. (Or get blamed)

And …

A is aware…

But there is a difference between knowing and allowing it.

You know…

Meaning everyone knowing that Mc and A are in Love and yada yada? Sure.

But entering said relationship, making it official, going with the mention and becoming a couple and doing daily couply stuff like Smooching…

Thats the step A is afraid of taking, because of the past. When A gave in their desire of becoming a knight. The exhilaration didn’t survive in the end…when some asshole came and taught her the agony that come from your mistake and pride…

Because the more you feel the higher you feel floating…the more agony you will get once you lose whats giving you that.

Its like the opposite of ‘Being in love with the idea of being in a relationship’…here its more ‘being afraid of the idea of being in a relationship with the mc, because if anything would happen…the loss isn’t something A feel they can survive a second time’…

Interesting. It didn’t seem to me that M knew exactly why the MC was clutching their head in Book 1 after the flirtation. To me it just looked like M going, “Okay, weird, what are you doing?” I’ll have to find that dialogue in book 3. Thanks for the heads up!

Big oof. You’re right. I thought it was weird having someone underage be a murder victim but I figured there was an overall point that I must have just missed. Then, in this book, underage kidnapping victims. The Agency can’t be all that moral if they honestly do not care if the most vulnerable among us are constantly being targeted because of the MC.

She wouldn’t have to write actual therapy sessions, just have the Agency offer them as a thing the MC could do in their off time if they wanted. It could be stated that, “Even though I feel like these sessions are helping me cope, nothing compares to the amount of cope I feel when I’m around my vampire!” Only, less cheesy, of course.

This. Definitely all of this.

Yeah, this took me aback. This time around, the MC isn’t affected by M’s pheromones at all, even when they are at their most unstable. I honestly figured this causal effect was going to be the catalyst in the M route for Book 5, but if the MC is fine when M’s power is this close to breaking, after it breaks, will it even matter?

This makes sense. It’s not about pheromone control, it’s about blocking memories so the pheromones don’t get out of control because of the memories. And it’s a good foil to what I think N’s super secret Tier X ability is.

I perfectly understand where you’re coming from and 900+ years of trauma after such a great loss can’t be easily overcome but it’s not as if something happens and they aren’t in a relationship A will suffer less :woman_shrugging:t2:

Sorry for the off topic question, but I was discussing this with a friend and got curious: do people enjoy the love triangle route? And if so, how do you usually play it?
Personally it’s the one path I don’t bother with, while my friend gave up when she realized it wasn’t a poly, but what about you?
Indulge the trope or burn it with fire?

Yep. I play it as my MC totally falling for N, but at the same time being unable to shake off their attraction to A. Cue guilt, confusion and unhealthy coping mechanisms.

yeah but see…

Once one suffer such trauma, and say swear off ‘Ties and relationship’ to protect those around them because they are convinced they are a curse to anyone who get close to them…

It isn’t a matter of snapping your fingers and say ‘Tadam! Self-protection Shield of 900 years begone! I’m now ready to face Love and all the pain that come with it’

It doesn’t work like that I’m afraid. As soon as you do something like this, the longer you have it on…the harder it is to undo when you want it off.

So A choice would be intensive therapy, or just Jump and go against it and…hope for the best.

Agency: M, you and MC have to live together now for the protection of the world.
M: Live with? What the hell? I–
MC: Babe, your shit is already in my apartment and you haven’t left my side in over a month, except for bathroom breaks.
M: Oh. shrugs Whatever. Let’s go. slings arm around the MC

I can agree with this. I don’t mind the growling. It fits Dezh. I also hate the jump scaring over nothing.

Z: Hey, F, will that keep him away from my apartment from now on? I’m more than willing to throw salt everywhere… Or maybe I’ll just yell “Boo!” at Adam every time I see him.

Dezh would vehemently agree with that. Maybe that’s why she and Adam get along so well.

Understandable, but still selfish. Especially since they can’t seem to control themselves around the MC, which is why they give conflicting signals all the time and do stupid shit like offering a kiss before “ending it for good.”

I think it got summed up in this book twice that the Agency cares about numbers. Oh, we saved X number of people, that’s great. Too bad we lost Y number. Oh well, we followed protocols! A runs into that problem, too, because all they know is following the rules.

I hate it and won’t play it. My husband plays it with two separate characters–a guy with all female UB and a female with all male UB. The guy is an asshole. He strings Nat along and dates her, but only to rub it in Ava’s face. And is only affectionate when Ava can see it, lol.

The female MC he does is afraid of her own shadow and can’t make up her mind. She is constantly wanting to be protected and, in b2, thinks Nate sucks at it because he’s too concerned with not fighting. Adam scares her but she figures he’d kill for her, so she’s all for it. He plays it where it totally leans into Sera’s over-the-top writing.

But they haven’t done that. They have Unit Bravo. Family.

they do actually.

This book showed us how warm and open A could be.

Even with the rest of the team they are pretty closed off.

that’s coming from you? the M-King-of-selfishness-mancer? Huhuh…

They still care about the rest of the team though. Very much. They show it, and admit it.

but how deep is the tie?

Are you calling M selfish? Because that’s hilariously untrue. Or Dezh? She’s not selfish, she’s a chicken shit, emotionally. But she’d saw off her own arm with a rusted spork before she hurt Mason.

what scene do you get the ‘I love you’ Exactly? from M…

You don’t get the words, but there are enough scenes to show it. And he takes a shot at the end, when playing I Never.

Besides, he’s scared, too, according to what he told Adam. But he’s not so scared that he’ll run away from the MC. Just scared to see what they think about him wanting to be with them.

I’ve seen people meme the scene with A and their car, but honestly I found it to be a delight.
I’m still sad that things are shaky, but I can’t deny I’ve loved the small things (and A being a total nerd for pretty drawn maps was gold to read)
Tldr; A does open up in this book, I just wish the ending could have been different cause the slow burn is slow burning me alive :clinking_glasses:
