The Wayhaven Chronicles: Book One (WIP)

It’s interesting though I think I may have shot one of the RO’s…

Heck of a way to start a relationship…
friend: so how’d you to first meet each other?
RO:…I got shot
Friend: so Mc was your Emt?
RO: no they shot me…
RO & Friend: stare
MC:… hesitant laughter still not over that I take it?
RO & Friend: stare
MC:…slowly creeps away

Awww…I think it’s cute and it’s not like Adam didn’t have it coming. I mean he could have just cooperated and chosen to come to station with us. I mean he and his group were acting suspiciously like teenage delinquents.
Besides, at least this way it establishes that my mc is no pushover.

If it works for Hollywood action hero’s comedic sidekicks it will work for small town detectives in a supernatural environment. :ok_hand:

Cool. Other then the senses ingrained in school wanting to nitpick a few things(Never saw my M.C. record when they entered the crime scene in their personal notepad and one of the forensics never labeled the evidence bagged or time of retrieval. Or even asking who called in the body in the first place. It seems bad form that the character would follow leads by themselves but I get that’s part of them trying to hold on to their pride.) It’s still good stuff.
But then again I don’t understand what the Wayhaven P.D.'s protocol would be for these things. Really want to see what happens next.

Ahhh this is exciting! I really appreciate the fact that the MC’s personality and perspectives on everything is so changeable, though I imagine it must be difficult to code and write. I really look forward to how character relationships will develop over time, and all the shenanigans and adventures that will ensue <3

I absolutely love the demo! There’s something about the mood or vibe it gives off that I can’t get enough of!

omg. I LOVED The Lady’s Choice. I’m excited to see how this WIP progresses.

@shettiejw, you, and me, all have FE icons (Robin, Boey, and Tibarn respectively, lmao).

Maybe we’re just drawn to unique character interactions in our games… maybe that’s why we’re all in this thread.

I actually noticed your Tibarn icon for a while now. Just too afraid to point it out. :stuck_out_tongue: Pretty hyped about the remake so I went with Booey.

@Jinx_the_Atomic_Cat and @Drakeye - It’s certainly nice to make a lasting impression on a potential RO though, right? They’ll certainly never forget it!

@idonotlikeusernames - Yeah, I think the vamps definitely get that the MC isn’t just going to go with how they want to run things right from the start with an introduction like that

@Hex - I did have more proper protocol type stuff listed, but then I pulled it out after writing it. It just… wasn’t fun? I really want this to be something people can get into and read for escapism, so I’m not too bothered about leaving some stuff out to streamline the story.
Plus, makes me feel like it reinforces the idea that the people of Wayhaven have absolutely no idea what to do in the case of a murder, and they definitely will not be asking the big city for advice
Hope you enjoy the rest!

@shettiejw - I think it’s worth the time coding and writing it, because I want it to feel more of a natural way for the MC to progress. Hopefully it works out like I want it! Glad you enjoyed it

@fox_vixen - Oh, I’m glad it’s got a good feel to it! A lot of the interactive fiction I read and stick with has to give a off a certain vibe for me to keep going, so I get what you mean

@laudekarina - Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy this as much The Lady’s Choice!

Any chance we can quit the force and become a consultant insert specialty here (for example Consultant Detective). I play by my own rules.

Is there a reason our MC didn’t go to the city to be a cop or is that spoilers?

@DJoEisDJoE - Detective only, I’m afraid  It’s going to be a small plot point that leads into book 2. (Plus I can’t even imagine the coding and changes needed to implement a different career path, think that’s beyond my current level :D)

@avidreader - The MC will have trained in the city to be a cop, but come back to Wayhaven to join the small police department there. To be totally honest, it’s more of a writer decision than a story one. I live in a big city and I really hate it. And, seeing as writing this is part escapism for me, I set it somewhere nicer to write about!
Plus, I find having a small, contained town easier to plan for in a series of books, as the settings are all together. A city can be sprawling, and having that in interactive fiction might be a bit too much. If that makes any sense?

How’s the progress :)? Really liked the demo!

I really like what you have so far! :grinning: Admittedly, I’m a little disappointed that Verda won’t be a romance option, he seems p cute. I do like the actual ROs though! I think I’m most interested in Felix and Mason

@mangopeerat - Progress is going well! I’ve just managed to get past the first scene of Chapter 3, which varied a bit depending on earlier decisions, so it took a bit of time to make sure I got all the variations in  Can move onto the big introduction scene now!

@anon86661845 - Thank you so much for trying it out, I’m glad you enjoyed it  I’m even more glad that other characters were appealing to you!
Felix and Mason- quite opposite ends of the scale!

Quick Update

I’m still working on Chapter 3, but I think I will wait until after I’ve finished Chapter 5 before updating the demo again. Not sure where I’ll cut off the demo for final. Wanted to give people quite a bit to play in the demo, seeing as I’m new, people could be sure they liked the story, writing, characters, etc before purchasing.

I’ve managed to change up the stats, though I’m still playing with them. They’re much more organised now

Do you guys like to have relationship stats?
There will definitely be stats for the romance options, so as you can be sure you’re romancing the right one (and also how friendly you are to the ones you’re not).
But, I plan to have friendships shift for most characters (Tina, Verda, etc), but I was worried if I had revealed stats for all the characters, people might be more focused on choosing the answers that made them friends, rather than playing as they want?

Any opinions?

I just played through the demo and I absolutely loved it. It was a pretty intense few chapters. Idk about anyone else, but that warehouse scene got my blood pumping! The scenes where your character isn’t in them are interesting as well. I liked seeing the vampires interact and getting a glimpse into their personalities. I am also sensing some drama in the future, after that twist at the end. I’m going to play through it again so I can possibly give some more constructive feedback, but I really, really like this game. Your writing style is very nice as well. I was hooked on every sentence!

Also, for the record, I like relationship stats for characters other than ROs. I don’t use them to say whatever will make that person happy – I just like to know where I stand with important characters.

I’m kind of neutral about the relationship stats. I like to know where I stand with a character but I also like not knowing if I’m doing alright or not with them…For the sake of being more immersed into the story, I’d prefer not having it. I know I could ignore it but if it’s there I’ll get tempted

Could use points instead of %, should make it vague enough
