What about the limits? How far can someone’s effort bring them to surpass the limits of their affinity?
Here’s a set of debatable speculations on the first two affinities:
Dominator: Versatile, well suited for users who can think quickly on their feet. This method can be considered a foil for its more premeditated and inwardly focused peers. Given enough experience, if magic works in any way similar to a biological process, these users may develop a “muscle memory” for their spells, freeing their conscious attention for the simultaneous casting of other, potentially equally automated, spells, which, on the whole, may as well simulate the units of a system akin to a complex spell without taxing their challenged focus. If so, these users may cast their spells as the subtle links of a chain reaction at the proportions of the battlefield, giving them a strategic edge that may defy their stereotype.
Bender: These users may have a mana shortsightedness that blurries the amplified “vision” needed to distinguish the units of mana. Given the lack of objects of reference, their capability to imagine said units isn’t as intuitive as the one other mages possess. Now, difficult doesn’t mean impossible. Nevertheless, instead of focusing on surpassing their challenges, they have circumvented them through the development of a style that, while replicable, can’t be mastered by other mages. These users seem, by their description, capable of manipulating other mages’ spells without interacting with their fundamental units. If the units of a spell are the ones dictating their fundamental effect, then they would not be able to, for example, bend a fireball directed to them into a speed-enhancing spell unless they surpass or circumvent that difficulty as well, which may as well be what “mastery” entails.
Now, as an honorable mention to the only important result… mine, one could think the short-range limits can be circumvented by relaying in the transmutation of mana into modern technology like surveillance drones, radar technologies, snipers, etc. Outside that, if they can materialize dynamic objects, the generation of macrostructures of periodic elements, like “Cesium,” which with water tends towards an explosive release, may be possible. Now, depending on the level of detail required in the visualization and the skill to track the dynamism present in the system, the generation of bioactive components or living things may be hard, if not impossible, but I do wonder about robots… Nevertheless, being able to generate toilet paper is a gift.
Now the branching of the given implications may look a tad concerning, so it may be beneficial to skip the speculations.
