The Sword of Rhivenia: Book One (CHECK #3830)

Probably my biggest gripe with this is the sword and succession. So y’all telling me you have blindly followed who ever the sword chose. But the Moment it chooses someone you don’t like it’s immediately this guy sucks let’s rebel, the guards are like he’s done nothing, like the mc be ruling for 2 days you expect them to fix everything by then? Also with the demo, how did Rhivenia go from being extremely rich with a good harvest to people starving in the streets in the demo? Y’all used money to buy the cure……not food.

It was mention a few times that most of Rhivenia were poor because the economy was bad and that only our family and some rich families have a good life.
Probably because we have them pay an high taxes.
I assume that the royal family is the one that give allowance to there peoples and pay there servants at the same time and since we spend all the gold on the cure we can’t pay anyone so now all of them are even poorer then before.

The thing is, the mc says that the kingdom is rich and that the harvests have been decent, also it’s been like a week how has literally everyone been starving to death in an extremely short amount of time? Like did everyone just throw out all the spare food when they bought the cure.

From how I read it, I think it is because MC was under the impression that the economy was stable in the earlier part of their life. Remember, they live in a castle sheltered from the rest of the Kingdom. Inside the castle the servants are paid better and don’t ever talk to the heirs about their troubles. The people of Rhivenia were also still recovering from the last war when Erwan decided to attack. So King Charles obviously didn’t share anything with the royal family and hid the fact that he was shit at being king lol.

Rhivernian economic have been worse since war of three brother. Our father hid this fact and never fix it.I think that this is reason why Rhivernia have extremely pushnishment for theft.Maybe Extremely pushnishment is used for preventing uprising during crisis economic.

Hey…I don’t know if anyone noticed this or not, but I read somewhere that the war with erwan will end in book 2. So, I do wonder what would be the plot for book 3?

Probably the Rhivenian feudal system has much to do with it, Rhivenia was rich and prosperous due to how many taxes we extracted out of the commons, the economy also as it was hinted depended heavily on the weapon exports made by the Everans, you can imagine the classic agriculture exports too as Rhivenia’s rural areas sure play a role, Galrys was mentioned as a city of the arts were many crafts are practised so perphaps more exports involve that.

Switching to a war time economy meant refocusing these taxes into preparing for said conflict with Pagonia, here my complaint has always been we do not know the specifics about the economy as a ruler you are pretty much left in the dark.

How trade with other nations like Marania stand during the war I suppose Rhivenia tried to preserve some normality trying to remain engaged in exchange with Kingdoms that are not directly involved on the war or distant enough to not care.

So possibly bad management regarding the dire times the economy finds itself in and lack of focus by the game itself does not do it any favours over simplifying the matter.

With all this talks about Economy makes me wonder how big the MC Kingdom actually is because honestly it’s looks like it’s just a city-state with a surrounding outlying countryside serving as it’s border?

I’m guessing pretty huge since the MC’s Kingdom used to be three separate ones.

Yeah a World map for the Sword of Rhivenia series(don’t even know if we are on a peninsula,Continent,Archipelago?) would be amazing also to place the mysterious Polaris(the place where Matteo and Isabelle came from) or if Etonea and Cavaris are still united like the times of Queen Maerisa, along with the overall geography.

True it would help imagining the places we go to and estimate how big it really are in our world equivalent. It would surely help with the immersion.

I wonder how influential is Polaris ? I think Isabella’s hometown have influence less than our mother’s hometown becuse in crisis,I don’t see Isabella action for solving trouble (even in Richard’s Route )

Thing is we don’t really know if it is nowadays an actual Kingdom or a duchy/area under one but damn if the place isn’t mentioned frequently.

Polaris seems specially tied to the narrative given Queen Isabelle is still alive, so perphaps even if she was a Commoner when she lived there we can get some sort of plot where we actually get to receive emissaries from there (get a secondary alliance or they could try to support Richard due to Isabelle’s schemes) or understand better her family’s past and meeting with King Charles.

I think that Isabella has not influence enoung in Polaris. Maybe she from lower-noble rank or commoner and that why our father have to marry with Alvena.he want powerful allie to win war.I don’t think that Polaris will support heir from lower -noble rank or commoner.but It’s clear that Isabella isn’t royal (or maybe she is Royal ?) But have chance that they will support Richard If Isabella From Royal family .

But the true powerful people in Polaris can use her unimportant background to approach Rhivenia nevertheless anyways on a basis like “Yeah she was a resident of Polaris so why don’t see if we can carve some influence in Rhivenia?”, her presence as Queen opens an option for Polaris to get favourable trade deals and concessions from Rhivenia.

On a time of need if played well this could evolve into an alliance or just another agent causing instability on Rhivenia.

She is just Lady Isabella (She isn’t queen anymore) If MC or Atheris is ruler .If Richard is king.Maybe they will approach Rhivenia. But In both case,I think she havenot power to do it .

In Richard route,I want choice to leave Rhivernia.Clearly We will lose in this war because he refuse all allies.

Yeah about that she still has a presence on that court and on Richards route she becomes the Queen Mother of Rhivenia, so do not count her out she can still very much be an active player on the Kingdoms politics even if she could seem a relic of the past.

Her background ties to involve Polaris more in the plot are a possibility.

I hate her presence. She is original evil. She tried to turn slibling kill each other. Her son is just loser Richard always remind me of Aegon II in house of Dragon.
