The Shadow Society General Discussion Thread (REWRITE IN PROGRESS). Rewrite update on #302

I will really miss this, I love TSS and I’m sad it will not continue, anything you feel willing to share I would be really grateful to see, and if there is any chance you want to revisit that world in a different way I’ll be right there to support you in any way I can.

Hii…i just downloaded your book and after reading the description I’m very excited to read it.
I found a Google doc attachment in your WIP post…the character list there…all of them are RO’s…right?? the secret one’s are included too??
And will there be a book 2??

Is there anything else i need to know? Any guide or tip for anything?

Hi, check out post 246, the author explains that there will be no other books & for now as I understand we don’t even know if she will ever publish or create anything more (which is extremely sad, she is such a great writer with cool ideas)

Thank you so much. It’s really sad that ppl compared her work with other’s even tho everyone knew it was her first work.
I like to read this type of stories in COG’s format and her story n character description had me interested immediately. It reminded me of another one of my favourite COG series{waiting for book2 of that series too}.
Its sad when good books get discontinued.

1.What do minus points in rivalry stat mean guys?
2. Is it hard to get friendship stat point’s with A?
3. Judging from some comments I’m guessing there’s no intimate scene with any of the RO…right? So does R atleast has a kiss scene?
4. Are there no achievements to unlock?
5. We aren’t getting any rivalry romance anymore…right? Since there will be no 2nd book? Rivalry with A suit’s so much.
6. Should my mark stat be high?
7. The rest of the stat {personality and skills} when will they come at play? Do you see any changes in our interactions n mannerisms based on which one of our personality stat is higher?

How can I get this jealousy scene?

From what I remember, the stats for this story were so broken that even the author admitted to them being an issue and not actually affecting the story much. They had initially wanted to redo the book again, but life and the mixed responses seemed to push them away from that unfortunately. So I wouldn’t expect a second book, and I wouldn’t think to hard on any of the stats. It’s more just a read and enjoy kind of thing, and there’s so much jealousy scenes that I can’t help but love it all despite the flaws.

The rivalry stat in particular seemed to be set off by any antagonistic behaviour with that person, so having it fall into the minus must mean you’ve selected the opposite to that enough for it to decrease? It really does little. And A will be pretty indifferent to your character unless you’re in a romance no matter how nice you are.

The jealousy scenes at the end of the book can come from flirting with M and then having your other love interest try to separate you two for a dance when they ask you for one. A and the crazy one in particular are very entertaining. Also while at the twins (? Or just siblings, I can’t remember) manor, you can hit on their dad and really piss off A if they’re romanced, lol. The next scene is where you have F and M as love interests (high flirt responses) and can set off some dialogue right at the end iirc. Oh, and if you romance A and the sibling through the book, while at the masquerade ball at the manor the little sibling will be suffering sadboihours.

Thank you so much for the reply @yelhsa

That really is just so sad and kinda unfair towards those who really liked her work. This kind of thing has happened to me so many times that it truly just disappoints me now. I mean I’m grateful to come across a good book despite it not being properly finished but after encountering such works that i end up liking or loving but then either the author doesn’t completes the series or has deleted/removed the work entirely (if it’s an online work then) that i now just get upset a bit.
In COG’s case, this is the 2nd book that I had started reading that (was) supposed to be a continuous series but unfortunately is now unfinished.
It’s also sad that we maybe couldn’t appreciate n motivate her enough to continue the series to atleast finish it properly with atleast a 2nd book with more proper n progressed romance with all of the RO sneakily looks at Rheylo :point_right::point_left:.

Now i understand better. I literally even reinstalled the app thinking maybe I’m encountering some separate issues and then even restarted my device :face_with_hand_over_mouth:.

I love those kind of stuff too

Ah! I see.

Gwyndal…right?

Just siblings…not twins. A is 3 yrs older.

Did you do that? I never ever did that before but for some resn i really feel prompted to do that here just to see A’s reaction when I’ll romance him :smirk::smiling_imp:.

F?? So far i haven’t encountered anyone named F actually.

Story’s end?

Like he’ll be really sad?

Can i just punch M…please? :slightly_smiling_face: I’m like really n i mean really frustrated here. Like can this be getting anymore frustrating than this !! :triumph:

Edit- Okay! Because of the kind of reader I’m… I’m shocked to see that we get the epilogue RIGHT AFTER THIS CHAPTER!!! So do i like vanish just like that??? without so much of a choice to even i want to return or not? Or atleast a final goodbye?? A hug?? Or a kiss?? What the hell!!! What kinda ending is that if we aren’t getting a book two? I liked Rhey a lot! So that hurt after waiting patiently throughout the whole book. I atleast hoped for one warm gesture…a hug? But now I’m just afraid to even read the epilogue.
Why would you do this? :sob: @Carawen it is sad how these things makes me feel afraid to love a book. Now I’m left with a book that i love but it’s not finished.
I’m sorry for being such kind of a reader. I’m just one of those book girlies.
I would have felt at peace if atleast the ending was changed or more chapter’s could hv been added to make the book1 atleast a fulfilling one…since there won’t be a part two.
I shouldn’t have come across this book or atleast should have read all the comments here before reading becs now I’m in pain :sob:
Also I’m surprised to know that G is apparently that creature?? & if he is that creature then how was his romance supposed to continue in book 2? & if he is that creature then how do we supposedly get a kiss with him?

You write really good dear Author. I’m sorry that we failed you to motivate enough to finish the book for us atleast
Good author’s often accept defeat n backout becs of some unmotivative readers comments & then there’s life as well plus not feeling completely satisfied to one’s own work {I’m sorry if i misunderstood but i think read something like that on your tumblr} no matter what we reader’s say who loved it. @Carawen Just now i dont know what to do! This is going to bother me for so long now. I was finishing reading sacrificing sleep and now it’s morning n i have lost all the sleep becs of how sad n unsettling I’m feeling. I was reading the book while patiently waiting for the next chapter’s of another visual novel. Because i was feeling not too good. Now i just feel more…

I will say again…you write GOOD! I wish you had given us atleast an ending if not a whole book 2.

Edit 2-

I thought i read somewhere that the book was rewritten & after seeing that the book app was updated three months back in playstore…i falsely hoped that maybe you @Carawen changed the book one to complete it since there won’t be a book 2.
Can we still hope for something? Please. Not a book 2 but atleast maybe making the book one a whole book…a standalone read?atleast some closure?

I guess i was just way too excited to read your book that i made all this preparation before starting to read @Carawen

If i knew how the book ends then i would hv read it more casually n nonchalantly without putting so much attention n emotion to fuel my imagination n might not have delved in so much :pensive:

Edit 3-

Was it shared? Where?

@Carawen I’m really grateful to you for this book and ik you would understand my points here. Please consider atleast giving us a closer- a reunion, some moments with RO’S & a final showdown concluded with a proper closure epilogue where we get to decide what we want and a way to be with our RO or just go our separate ways instead of an abrupt separation. Please.

First of all , please do let me know if I’m doing this the wrong way or breaking any rule. I’m more like a silent reader so i dont post or talk often hence i keep forgetting the rules. I’m really sorry.
The topic i wanted to discuss…I’m not sure i posted it under correct section or not to reach the correct audience. So please help me out there too.

Now- I wanted to talk about TSS with ppl who had read it and especially ppl who had recently read it and loved the characters and got attached to your chosen RO…cause i had been very patient for Rheylo thinking we will get atleast something at the end.

I know what the author said and this is not to pressurise her or make her feel guilty. I just wanted to see readers interest & love for this book. Would you have loved it and felt really grateful if we weren’t left at a cliffhanger? If after deciding that there won’t be a 2nd part to this book…our author would have considered to atleast edit the first book and finish it with a whole ending & publish the update?

I recently read the book. I first didnt know there wont be a 2nd book and when i got to know…i saw some discussion on her rewriting it and i kind of thought that maybe she rewrote it and finished the story in book one since book 2 won’t happen & only after reaching to the epilogue did i realise that we were still left at a cliffhanger. So pardon me! the wound on my reader heart is quite fresh

I loved her work and liked her as well. She is so nice n sweet.
But i think author’s really need to stop doing this to us readers :sob:.

Not to mention the book was really costly for an incomplete book. In my currency it was 700 bdt. So… But it would hv been totally worth it without any regrets if an ending was provided. A finished story.

So now i just want to know, Would you love it if @Carawen  would have been kind enough to end the story atleast? if not release a whole separate book 2? Like the rest of the story could be published in first book app. It could be short but atleast we will get closure. A proper one at that. Like a reunion, some moments with RO’S & a final showdown concluded with a proper closure epilogue where we get to decide what we want and a way to be with our RO or just go our separate ways instead of an abrupt separation.

If you have any idea or suggestion then feel free to share them.

Honestly? I think the game should have a warning on the store page and the demo saying that the series is cancelled and won’t be completed, so people can go in with full information of it’s status. Heavens know if I think about watching an older show one of the firs things I do is google some version of “was show X cancelled on a cliffhanger leaving the story incomplete”, and watching shows is FREE.

I really DID like TSS and the way it was going, and it’s a bummer that my fave ROs in it are the one with the biggest cliffhanger (I forget the name, but let’s call them Bitey, you know the one) and the shapeshifter, who gives the biggest demonstration of caring right at the end (“let’s not bring MC back into this, they’re out of this bullshit, let them live their life in peace”).

I agree. Also that it ends in ridiculous cliffhanger. I mean for example Midnight saga is also a continuous series…right? We are patiently waiting for part 2 BUT book 1 has it’s own good ending. Similarly i wish TSS book 1 too atleast had an ending. Being cancelled isnt the issue but left at a cliffhanger is. So i honestly want n wish ppl to urge , encourage n request her to atleast give us a finished book with an ending. But at the end ig it only depends on the author’s own motivation.
Atleast the book price should be reduced if it’s not going to have a complete ending.

I too do this. I rarely watch a series that hasn’t been released till s2 or 3 atleast becs many good series get cancelled after 1 season. Also i check the ending like how is the ending…good or bad, fulfilling or sad or left for audience to assume etc. I used to check this for books too and in the matter of COG I most of the time always read either a standalone or finished series. But yk how its not always possible or you dont always feel like doing research before reading. Sometimes you just wanna download, purchase n read & TSS was in my wishlist for quite a long time. It was one of those days so i just downloaded & started reading…until i froze when i reached the epilogue .

IKR! :sob: i only tried Rheylo’s route so far. And his cliffhanger is painful. I was imagining the scene while reading and now it’s playing on loop in my head. The big loud “nooooo” that escaped my mouth when that scene ended n i reached epilogue was… Rheylo is my fav & before finishing i was super excited to try other RO’S routes too and now i dont know if i should :no_mouth:.

Ginger hair or blonde hair? Mask one?

Yess!! That was just so sweet. Rheylo is really really sweet, adorable n cute. When he said that i went like “” and when Azur taunted him after that… i was like “Shut up azur :unamused:”.

Mask one. The one who tries to scare you with a centipede, it’s adorable. Less adorable when the mask comes off at the end.

True! That was a shocker! Alas we won’t know how romance will progress on his path from then on. Still hoping for some consideration from the author tho.

Do you have any suggestions for books similar to this one? With good romance or atleast similar to that RO’S of here have? Similar genre , storyline {Definitely without a frustrating cliffhanger} @JBento

Honestly, I think TSS was extremely unique (meaning more’s the pity that it’s been cancelled); there’s a uniqueness to the setting that I don’t think has been matched otherwise.

I’d say Fernweh Saga comes the closest, but it’s also an ongoing series (B1 is out, it ends on a cliffhanger) and B2 is currently being written.

I think the Morgan/Mason romance route in Wayhaven is one of the best written romance routes in IFs so far, but the series has little else to recommend it IMO, and we’re currently in book three of SEVEN (and the author is rewriting B1 for some godawful reason, seeing as it’s the best in the series overall, minus the romance development), so, uh, yeah, it’s a risk at worst and a VERY long haul at best.

I mean, I can recommend a bunch of WIPs, if you want, but none of them are finished, and none of them quite hit the setting mystique of TSS.

YES!!! It has also its own vibe & writing style. I loved the storytelling & all the lore…its so fu*king sad that we wont get anything :sob:

True words! :pensive:

What did he mean here? What game?

If this is A, and the scene I’m thinking of, I assume it means high society politics, they’ve spent a lot of time away from all of that, and now after reuniting with the Shadowman, have put themselves back into a position where they have to act a certain way to “survive”.

Umm…this scene comes after his first romance choice at the beginning…after our interaction in the library in our childhood home.

Probably the relationship game, then.
