Hey, it’s comment #100!
Hmm, this chapter is a bit parser-like (if that’s what you meant), though I’m guessing it’s more influenced by having the time to play regular rpgs (kotor, etc) lately; I start thinking more in terms of three-dimensional space. My experience with parsers has been getting tired of walking around in circles and looking up a guide to finish…
You’ll have more food for thought this chapter…

Will we be given idea or information on where and what happen to the other spies ? Twelve is the 12th spy right?
i remember reading that 16th was a traitor and had been “taken care of” … will 16 return and seek vengeance against the spy organisation like in one of the James Bond movie?
Hmm, I guess this is a little confusing. Everyone at AGIS has a much longer number that’s almost like a bar code and is basically their ‘name’ as far as the organization is concerned. 12 and 13 are the first two digits of Twelve and Thirteen’s numbers. 17 is the beginning of yours. They are actually 12th and 13th members of a different group within AGIS (analysts with that particular implant). You are the 17th civilian recruit since they decided to stop recruiting civilians decades ago. I’m working on codex entries and an in-game conversation describing these categories better – I can post more information in the thread if you’re curious.
You’re unlikely to learn much about the spies in your ‘group’ before the sixteenth; most of them didn’t really last long. You might find some clues, or learn something from Sixteen’s guesses. I have said already though:
Excited to finally get to reading this playtest!
Welcome!
I keep meaning to get to my fellow espionage-writers’ threads (The Operative and The Aegis project), but I’ve been so busy lately… I played the Operative way back before I had an account here, and the recent updates sound intriguing.
I feel like I would end up roughly playing one of my 17S characters in someone else’s spy game now, I wonder how that would go…
Yes…i like interactive novel with more information so that i can understand and imagine the environment i am in…
I always prefer diplomatic approach if possible, a quote from King Arthur " Why make enemy when you can have friend ? " and of course knowledge is Power, i can only gain more knowledge and information via Diplomatic Approach , if sixteen still want to become an enemy… well, i keep my friend close but i keep my enemy closer
which profession your character prefer ? is it smuggler or mercenary ?
I know how you feel, don’t feel a rush to try other similar games. Focus on this wonderful story YOU are crafting. We will still be here I for one will be around expecting a lot from this project
I’m playing one of my side characters in your story.
Here’s the infodump I almost posted above:
Twelve isn’t numbered in the same category as the mc is. He’s an Analyst, and handles spies’ missions from behind a desk somewhere, though with his implant he can constantly be connected to what the agents he’s assigned to are doing. He also keeps an eye on larger patterns within a system or even multiple systems, and will eventually be making decisions about where AGIS should interfere, which agents should be involved, and how. He’s still very young right now, so he’s mostly making suggestions to his sister and working on a couple projects with close supervision (one of which is you!).
He’s the 12th person to receive a cranial cybernetic implant, and the first to really survive the process with his sanity intact. His sister got her implant after his was successful, since he was a little young to be using it professionally. They both have a 9-digit code that serves as their ‘name’ within AGIS, but these codes begin with A12 and A13, designating them as 12th and 13th members of project Argus. She would’ve had a different number before then, but changed to Thirteen to reflect her status as 13th with the implant.
You will be Agent Seventeen, though your actual number designation is longer; (Seventeen is more like a nickname) This longer number has been in the code (hidden on the stats screen) so it’s technically ‘published’ but hasn’t shown up in the playable story yet.
I’m still coming up with project names to designate different groups of agents, but everyone will have a letter before their number to roughly indicate what they were trained for. The mc’s project might be Kalypso (I think it’s in the code already), but I haven’t really decided yet.
Anyone who’s referred to by a greek letter name (Delta, Omicron, Sigma) is a rank above analysts and agents and oversees all the operations in a given system (sometimes more). Omicron’s an exception, but we’ll get to that later. The leader of AGIS is simply the Director, though technically she’d be ‘Alpha’ as well.
This is exactly what ‘sympathy’ is designed to measure! Be friendly to everyone, if only to keep a close eye on them…
I really meant what @spytim’s doing; playing a side character from my story. I’ve actually got a character who loses their hand I should probably try in Aegis Project, since that’s an option for mc background! I keep finding more similarities between our games. AGIS/Aegis is of course obvious, but I was close to calling this The Eighteenth Spy, which would’ve been really weird.
I try not to think of one particular kind of mc as ‘canon;’ I want to give some space to create your own. However, this game did start out as an idea for a linear story I couldn’t decide how to end, so the mc from that story could still fit into the game. That character would be a female former mercenary, probably with severity or bravado as her highest traits, and no home planet. The character was also married by the end of the story, which is one reason I didn’t want to add romance here. People would complain if there wasn’t a choice but writing anything with a different character would feel really weird to me.
I’ve mentioned somewhere, I think, that this other plan was actually in the Star Wars universe! So there were some other traits that couldn’t transfer: not just a merc but a Mandalorian, eventually hunting jedi. Twelve came from an idea for a young, naive Watcher X. Omicron was a sith. – He’s changed a lot, though
It all seems kind of silly now. I’m so glad I’ve found a way to really make this story my own. And now I get to explore my multiple ideas for endings…
Star Wars inspired quite a few wonderful stories
Actually the universe of Dune is quite inspiring as well … although it is controversial and not everyone’s cup of tea … personally i like Book one of Dune, Book Two is still ok… but the rest are too extreme , especially how the protagonist had transform into a big Giant Worm with his head and face on it… that’s just too much.
Shhhhh! I just bought the first book to read bad spoilers!
I didn’t mention anything about Book one … I just said i like it …Lol
Don’t worry, Book one is fine, you will love it… the protagonist in Book one and Three are different
Good… >:D muhahaha
So I finished it, very interesting setup, I look forward to more! I’ll reserve my opinions of the characters until further development if that makes sense.

I read through the summary , seems the scale is quite epic… depending on your ambitions . All the best to you
by the way , do you know who is John Wick and Jason Bourne ? Will sixteen be as deadly as both of them ? If so…i can imagine talking to sixteen will be a challenge
Yeah, my stories tend to grow exponentially on me! I’m glad I designated a solid outline before I really started on this, it’s keeping me moving towards a specific kind of ending/choice and it can’t really get longer. But I’m really a detail person, and scenes and universe keep getting more complicated as I write them. I’ll see what it becomes, I suppose! Three already looks like it’s going to be a much longer chapter. And we’re really just getting started – it’s hard to believe you’ve barely met Twelve and Thirteen, and know others characters only by name…
No Godzilla story growth got it…magnifying glasses included with each scene.
At least we don’t have to worry about a 006 stabbing us in the back…or do we
He’s the 12th person to receive a cranial cybernetic implant, and the first to really survive the process with his sanity intact.
What happened to the others?
You say that Twelve is “working on a couple projects” - consecutively or simultaneously? If an analyst were to be working on two simultaneously, would their code become a 10-digit one?
That character would be a female former mercenary, probably with severity or bravado as her highest traits, and no home planet.
Oooh. Wonder how her relationship with Thirteen worked out xD
Marriage seems like it’d simpler in such a universe. When you get sick of it just jet over to another planet and outrun the lawsuits or texts (or whatever less primitive modes are used).
With the part after Twelve talks about Clama Corvi, that was a disappointingly fake choice. When you choose “You sure like listening to yourself talk, don’t you?” (best line in the story, imo), isn’t there a micro-expression at least before Thirteen enters? Curious as to what his reaction would be, since he seems like he’d be used to similar things from Thirteen, but he’s just been either happy or unflappable throughout and some negative reaction would be fun
