If I recall, my pet request was for a giant spider…
…Yeah, do me a favor and keep that thing far away from me
I have no idea what my heir is called but as soon as he is old enough, ever since the king just walked away and said “It was a mistake to have you” when he was seven, he will become a paladin, skewer the king through the chest and turn rogue!
Damn that king makes me angry
Keep the spider away from me too!
Riyaena just wants to dissect the large spider after it dies or study the properties of its silk.
Don’t get me wrong, Artie is into that stuff too but I ain’t!
I can acknowledge that spiders are fascinating but they can be fascinating away from me
Come and live in my neighbourhood. Dealt with two spiders today, one a Daddy-Longlegs and the other a Huntsman the size of a sideplate. All before I’d even finished my porridge.
Why haven’t you burned your house down yet.
Won’t someone think of the children spiders!
I am thinking of the spiders! I’m thinking they should all either die or stay far away from me.
@Fawkes, while we’re on the subject of my most crippling fear, what are the things our dear family fear the most? Not talking about like, the fear of being failures or whatever, but physical things, like spiders, heights, etc.
There you go.
My male MC is more interested in science and the arts than in people (distant and aloof would best describe him) including all of his family and finds things like politics to be a bother. He’s usually cooped up somewhere reading, painting, or experimenting/observing. I guess he’d be my scholar MC.
He never properly learned to sword fight since he doesn’t care for it.
The only way I can see him falling in love is if the person equally as academic or intellectual as he is or if the RO tries getting the MC out of their shell which ends up with the MC eventually finding them interesting.
2nd MC is a female warrior. She is stern, but loves having fun. What she generally enjoys most of all is defeating a difficult opponent.
One way she would likely fall in love is if she met someone who could put up a good fight and had a kind heart. She’s strict with her body so she eats well, trains well, and doesn’t sleep around (at all).
She is also uninterested in politics. After getting used to it, she can’t be bothered to feel anything about her family’s dislike for her and shrugs it off, but finds her mother to be annoying and fake.
I honestly don’t remember the ROs very well so I’m not sure who would match up best with either of my MCs.
Male MC is a chatty and kindhearted lad with a brain of pudding, but he still has a highly abundant amount of intellectual curiosity, in the “If I stick a fork in an outlet, what does it do?” kind of way. He doesn’t have any real opinion about the disapproval of his father, and is openly trusting of his mother in spite of it being more or less stated that she’s using him to manipulate events, so I expect he’ll likely not live to the end of the full game when it comes out.
Female MC is motivated heavily by want. Specifically, wanting the one thing she doesn’t have: power over the lives of others. Her father ticks her off, not because of how much of a brute he is – although that doesn’t help – but because he has control over her, and she can’t do anything about it. With her reserved but otherwise pleasant personality on top of that, she’s set up to be a budding little Lady Macbeth.
On a side note: spiders are quite useful
They keep your house free of flies and make cool Halloween decorations - for free!
But nobody can argue that they are still scary as hell
If they get too numerous or sizeable, they start to frustrate me. Luckily, that was limited to my stay in UK, it was like herds of them there, especially in the autumn. Nimble little critters too. Size of my palms, with their legs included. Still fascinating creatures, though, just not a fan of having them trot all over the place.
Nah, give me jumping spiders, cute and clever little things.
I’ve always been more afraid of yellow jackets (and consequently anything that looks like one) than I have been of spiders. Sure, a black widow packs a more potent bite but you never see them going after people for seemingly no other reason than sadistic amusement, y’know?
Ah, you play Mass Effect? I tried, but sci-fi really, really isn’t my thing. That said, I am a diehard fan of Dragon Age (I may or may not have bought my PS3, PS4, and my main laptop with playing those games in mind. Okay, there’s no may have, I 100% dropped hundreds of dollars over the past few years on the series, including buying DA:O and DAI twice for the ultimate editions/to play it on a different system. This doesn’t even include merchandise. Dragon Age owns my soul.)
But more to that point, I also learned the appeal of playing/writing bitter characters through Bioware. I love having a warden who resents being conscripted and having responsibility for all of Ferelden thrust upon them. I love playing an Inquisitor who hates being the Herald (especially an elven Inquisitor who, at the beginning, hates humans and everything they touch). Bioware’s stories lend themselves to bitter protagonists, especially given how much hell they endure.
Oh, it would be! And suitable for the story, as well. I’m making a note of that as we speak
@ethereal I loved reading the in-depth description of Phylia! I love how much thought you’ve given her, and I’m so honored that you found my game inspiring enough to create such a well-thought-out character.
Ah, horses and other animal companions will come into play later, around chapter three or later, I do believe. And while having one’s pet harmed by an enemy or whatnot would be accurate to the time and would properly convey the serious tone of the game, I do not think I would be able to bear writing it. It’s too gut-wrenching; particularly, I think, for a woman who, not so long ago, cried for an hour over a wingless moth she had to kill out of mercy.
Now, in regards to the rest of your post, armor will come into play later on, but I do like the idea of painting material, especially since I’ve already created a painting skill in the game. It makes total sense that paints would be a gift in chapter one, so thank you!
Ah, I knew it was someone! I think I already confirmed that at some point you can have a pet spider, even though I, like many others have made clear, am not a fan of spiders. I used to have a phobia of them, but seeing as my house is flooded with spiders (mostly black widows lately) everytime it rains, I’ve had to get over that. I still can’t stand them — I’ve been bitten by a brown recluse twice and will forever hold it against all arachnids.
(Yes, they were definitely brown recluses. No, my skin didn’t become necrotic — that doesn’t happen nearly as often as people think. It just blistered something fierce and left scars.)
Ooh, I love this question because phobias are a huge part of my life. I’ll probably give some of them a phobia I have, like cardiophobia (fear of hearts and heartbeats) or gyrephobia (fear of spirals). Someone inevitably has trypophobia, as that is a common phobia, or perhaps acrophobia (both of which I have).
Thinking on it a bit, I know I’m going to give Olarion a fairly serious phobia that will come up at some point (not going to say which). I believe I will do the same for Ysonia, though perhaps not quite so severe (I already have something in mind). The rest will things they are mildly afraid of but not to the extent of a proper phobia.
That was a good question to ask. I had given a good deal of thoughts to their abstract fears, like failure, but not so much to more “physical” fears. It’s given me some ideas.
@Scorpio00 Hearing your descriptions of your characters, I think they would each find a good fit amongst the ROs. The boy would get on well with Jasiphae or Sebriel, and the girl would probably like Iseriah or Senetha.
I can’t say why, but oh, man, this made me laugh. Just the bluntness of it got me, I think. Makes me really want to finish the game just so I can find out the fate of your character.
Ah, so ostensibly like her mother? I really do love characters — especially female characters — like that. Lady Macbeth is a large part of why Macbeth is my favorite Shakespearean play (though I am a little biased since I played Lady Macbeth in high school).
Eh, I don’t know. You can avoid yellow jackets by not going outside, but black widows will infiltrate your home. Though, in most cases, black widow bites aren’t as severe as people think — sure, their venom contains a neurotoxin, but only those abnormally sensitive to it have those extreme reactions you hear about. The same goes for brown recluses, like I mentioned; most people’s bites don’t necrotize, only those who are sensitive to the venom.
But you are right though that black widows (and brown recluses) are content to leave you alone if you leave them alone, for the most part. They just sometimes insist on claiming part of your house as their own, and then leaving them alone becomes a bit of a challenge.
Eek… That’s not the nicest spider experience… If you don’t want to write it, I certainly wouldn’t hold it against you, and I’d be fine going with a more conventional pet.
Glad to be of service!

Assuming he doesn’t take up alchemy and decide he’d be a great test dummy for the effects of quicksilver on the human body, and assuming he doesn’t end up inadverdently step on any toes that would be willing to season his breakfast with hemlock, he actually has a good chance of living to old age. Mostly because he wouldn’t dare to actually hurt anyone himself, and lacks ambition besides his desire to learn. He’s a good kid.
Ah, so ostensibly like her mother?
Essentially. Her admiration for her mother isn’t just for all the love she gets, but also because her mother has tried and succedded in sinking her claws into a powerful kingdom. My female MC feels like one-upping that in her mother’s honor.
Also, names: male!MC is now dubbed Cristus, female!MC is Aldrovanda.
