The cool and somewhat older guy is something I do like for a lot of my teenage mc’s.
Indeed, but Sebby is totally all super-sexy, exotic and awesome and he seems much like Nethica to be someone who actually knows how to have fun who can, again like Nethica, be won over and come to respect and love my mc for who they are. I’m not getting that vibe from Vesperion.
My mc will probably totally punch the guy, particularly if he insults or is disrespectful towards one of his boys ( being his brother Olarion, Nethica and Sebby).
While my mc being who he is can likely deal with insults towards his own person no-one disrespects his “bro’s” in front of him and if Vesperion tries at some point he really will have that punch coming.
That assumes competent physician’s who actually give a damn. Honestly during much of my childhood I’d have been better off not listening to some “doctors”. For one thing without the psych meds my celiac’s would probably have been diagnosed far earlier and my life would probably bet a lot better. For one thing I wouldn’t have had to quit politics.
Slap, slap kiss, eh? Mara. Though I can see a similar but more playful dynamic developing with my mc and Sebby. Though in that instance the slapping would more likely veer towards loads of snarky comments and witty wordplay with fewer actual slaps.
There is nothing more important then health. Whenever someone says that they will be fine if they put of a doctor’s appointment it more often then not ends badly for them. Please go to the doctor to get better.

Hey , I am totally playful. But I was immediately imagine him trying to poison me or something like that. I think two characters as Vespi kitty and Mara would start like Mr and Ms Smith until they join forces in a ruthless combo for the throne. And he seems the guy who enjoy a playful slap kiss lol.
You’re right. It’s just hard to take care of one’s physical health while also trying to be mindful of one’s mental health. I have yet to find the balance where I can take care of both without overtaxing myself.
Well, he’ll be pissed, for starters. He’s supposed to hate you, after all. Maybe part of him still does, but it’s getting confused with other feelings. As his affection for you increases, he’ll have fewer barbed comments directed at you – he saves them for someone else, especially someone who’s being a dick to you. It’s very surprising, Vesperion suddenly seeming to take up your defense. He denies it, of course, but people learn not to speak ill of you when he’s around. The rest of the Maeliahs – Ysonia in particular – are fair game.
If you enter into a relationship with Vesperion, Ysonia will eventually sit down with him and have a very emotionally-charged conversation with him – one she may have had with you already at this point – and Vesperion does not take it well. He stays with you – he’s not going to leave you because of your mother – but he avoids Ysonia for the most part. He stops saying cruel things about her, though, and refuses to go into why unless Ysonia’s talked to you beforehand like she did with him. Eventually, he also comes to Ysonia’s defense, even with his own family. Damn the rest of the Maeliahs, though.
Having Vesperion on your side can make quite a few things easier on you later in the game; he bears the brunt of the consequences of the relationship. He can’t be disowned by the Verathaes – he’s the only male heir – but it damages his relationships with them. Not irrevocably, but nearly so. Being with you is not easy for him, but he doesn’t care.
Olarion is actually relieved when you and Vesperion get together, as it saves him from having to keep playing mediator for you two.
It is worth noting that Vesperion, for all that he makes it hard for people to like him, is close to your siblings, particularly Terrisen and Olarion. They love him, even when they want to strangle him (which is frequently because poor Vesperion doesn’t know how to play nice).
As I said above, Vesperion gets on fairly well with Olarion (Olarion is perhaps the best at handling him).
Nethica and Sebriel, however… He and Nethica have a complicated relationship, what with their being brothers-in-law, and his relationship with Sebriel ranges from openly antagonistic to grudging respect and infuriating sexual tension. (Sebriel is much better at playing the game than Vesperion, but Vesperion has his moments of cleverness that are rather impressive.)
I can confirm that my neurologist did not give a damn, which was very discouraging. There’s nothing worse than begging someone for help only for them not to believe you.
Oh, you can definitely slap him and still romance him. He’d never admit it, but he’d admire the hell out of an MC who puts him in his place.
You can be enemies with Jasiphae! (You can be enemies with pretty much any of the ROs – your relationship with them just doesn’t start that way like it does with Vesperion.)
I have been told “it was all in my head” for years on end too. Worse the weight gaining side-effects of psych meds no doubt delayed my correct celiac’s diagnosis until it was (almost) too late. Turns out my bouts of depression were always merely co-morbid symptoms all along.
Which is why I simply tough out the bad days now and am appropriately weary of doctors and refuse to deal with psychologists and psychiatrists outright today. I should probably add on a personal, non-professional basis. I have to deal with plenty of psychobabble, psychologists and psychiatrists professionally nowadays of course.
Your problems actually seem far worse than mine though, since mine at least all stemmed from the same common root: Celiac’s and are very much treatable and livable now. Though it will never get me my lost cm’s of missed growth or years of my youth back.
Is it possible to develop a genuine friendship with Vesperion or is it a “he either loves or you hates you” sort of situation? If so, would one be able to orchestrate or convince him to enter into a marriage of convenience?
I can’t say how much I see myself in you. My conditions are very neurological (meaning no cure) and if it’s not one thing it’s another. But I had a lot ear infects as a baby too and resulted in a diesesd was bone to 50% hearing loss in the left ear to using a hearing aid. I have honestly lurked around this thread for a very long time and despite the numerous times I have seen you speak on your health it somehow went past me that you had visual snow. I’ve never met someone else with the condition before but I too have it, and I didn’t know that any of those things that you mentioned, like tinnitus, dizziness, or even potentially migraines are related to it. I appreciate you sharing your experience, I really thought I was almost alone when my ophthalmologist mentioned it as a potentiality.
