Loving the demo so far once again! However, I noticed that the first child’s pronouns are improperly assigned. It displays “him” instead of “he” I believe.

I’m busy, but since this is on track for submission, I had enough time for one playthrough.

With the backing of party leadership, you clenched the Democratic nomination for Governor and focused your campaign efforts to the general election. You did slightly moderate your beliefs to win over independents, but you didn’t compromise your core values.

clinched

With the generous donations of the Walfort’s, your campaign was off to a quick start.

#“I’m proud to have picked Stephen Hemmings, the Republican Congressman from Texas, to serve as my running mate. He rose above the struggles of poverty that he faced as a child, and vowed to ensure that no child would have to face poverty as he did. The former Representative has years in Congress that will greatly help the White House to garner support for our agenda. His story is one that resonates with all Americans, that’s why I chose him to serve as my Vice President.”

#“Kathy Henson is no stranger to the American public. She served as the Attorney General of the United States under the popular Republican President George C. Reynolds, and did a fantastic job. Being one of the only women in her field growing up, Kathy overcame challenges of being a woman in a male-dominated field, and served for years as the Attorney General of the State of Indiana before being tapped by President Reynolds to serve as AG. She has a strong moral compass, has served in the U.S. Cabinet, and will continue to serve as the next Vice President of the United States.”

Extremely long choice text looks very ugly on a smartphone. Could you place these descriptions in the text?

It was still surreal to you how quickly him had grown up. It felt cliche to say, but it truly did feel as though you just held he in your arms at the hospital moments ago, and yet you had just celebrated his…

#7th birthday. He was absolutely ecstatic to be getting into Elementary School.

Did the president and his wife have their first child around 40? It’s possible, but seems quite late.
(They met in college, so I’m guessing both are around the same age)

#You text back, “I’ll be there in five minutes, let he know I’m on the way.” You say to the driver, “Take me back to the Residence.”
#You text back, “It’ll be another hour or two. I need to attend these parties for tonight. Have the White House Doctor take a look at he.”

her?

“Now, onto your Secretary of Defense.” He flips a few pages forward. “Whose your pick to be your chief military advisor?”

Who’s

Another optional note: for Secretary picks, there are not many minority names apart from Hirono

“Mr. Morozov, you and I both know that I could never accept such a blatant attempt of bribery. Now leave before I have to have you removed.”

The Ambassador stands up and leaves without saying a word.

There should be an option to refuse more politely. He is a foreign guest after all. Some tact and diplomacy is still needed.

Third, we are just temporary occupants of this Office. We belong to the elite few of those who bear the magnificent title: President of the United States. Whether after four years or eight, your occupancy of the White House too shall one day come to it’s close.

“Thank you, Mr. Vice President. The Progressive caucus’s bill will champion a $200 billion Clean Electricity Program which would subsidize companies to switch from electricity sources that emit greenhouse gasses, such as coal power, to cleaner sources such as wind or solar. Our analysts expect us to reach 100% clean electricity in 25 years.”

“Frankly,” Minority Leader Reed replies, “though it’s much preferred to the proposal put forward by Birchland, I can’t say I’m fully supportive of it.”

“Which is why we’ve introduced our own proposal,” Minority Leader Montgomery interjects. “If you’ll open the folder titled ‘Climate Bill Proposal 3,’ it’d be much appreciated.”

Which is the house minority leader? And the senate minority leader? You need to identify them.

The Washington Monument towers over you. Just over the horizon you can see the peaks of the White House and the Capitol building.

“Well, Mr. President?”

#Offer the bribe
#Threaten to start an investigation into him
#Threaten to use a discharge petition

Is there an option to be more moderate about this and just walk away wordlessly?

“Go ahead, see what they can find. I’m pretty good at hiding things.”

He picks up his briefcase and gets into a car parked across the street before driving away.

It was a good thing that you decided to record your conversation.

Did congressman kern just try to bribe the president for money?!? If campaign money’s the objective, wouldn’t cutting a deal with a wealthy businessman be a more safe and sensible option? The president has money, but he’s not that loaded.

“With all due respect to the Secretaries,” Vice President Hemmings begins, “none of these solutions will have any real drastic impact. I believe our only option here is to attempt to reason with the Saudi’s.”

“I agree with the Vice President, sir, we need to get an agreement out of Saudi Arabia.” Jackson says.

#Set up the call with King Abdullah
#Go with Secretary Kellinger’s plan
#Go with your own plan – organize a boycott of Saudi oil

Saudis. Plus, couldn’t you do the first two options together? Alternatively, you could set up the call but keep the second plan in reserve.

You walk off the stage and into the back room behind it. Jackson is waiting with a small army of staffers as you enter.

“Japan is already on-board, sir. We’ve already started hearing from the Ambassador from Saudi Arabia, too. Immediately after your address, oil companies started making threats to the new King. He’s already willing to renegotiate.”

“That’s great to hear, Jackson.”

It wasn’t immediate, but sure enough, gas prices started to lower around the country, with the average cost of gas nationwide set to dip lower than they were before this whole ordeal.

As much as I love to stick it to the man, this seems unrealistic. Saudi Arabia and OPEC has a lot of clout and money. Even if you managed to get many countries and companies on board, the Saudis would still have the resources to wage a protracted battle.

Air Force One was luxurious, and spacious to say the least. Across it’s three floors, the aircraft was well equipped with 85 secure phones, 19 televisions, and shielding strong enough to protect it from a nuclear blast. The aircraft had the ability to refuel in-flight and, outfitted with the newest solar panels, was almost entirely self-sufficient.

Do airplanes have solar panels? It would only make the plane heavier, and would not provide any meaningful power to run a highly specialized b747.

“I apologize for the humming noise,” Jackson says while taking his seat. “CIA encouraged we use it. It interferes with any sort of recording devices in the likely event that this room is bugged. Something to do with frequency or… I don’t know how it works.”

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Mr. President,” Sam starts, “you need to fire her and allow the DoJ to investigate any criminal acts committed. She can tell her side of the story to reports, but the bottom line is that this is just too big of a mistake to let slide.”

Way to go!

I feel you are handling this great, and hopefully, you will show others that this way of running a “beta” works

I think I found a bug, here my democrat president say that the democratic party did everything to destroy him, but I’m pretty sure it should be the opposition party mention not my own party

Should we all submit endgame stat sheets and election results for balancing purposes?

So I decided for my first run to refuse every corruption opportunity, so my wife divorced and I lost the election in a total landslide. 10/10 moral of the story don’t try to be an honest politician ( or just be better than me )

This game is very good at mimicking modern politics, in the sense that there’s really no way to get the best result for you and what you want without pissing off people and getting your hands dirty, and I like that; I like that you can’t play a proper paragon because that’s just not how life works

Course mate, us authors gotta stick together. I’ll be watching your career with great interest. If this piece is any indicator, you have a long and successful one ahead of you.

The book is very organized and clean, but for a book a that bills itself as a Presidential Sim it doesn’t feel like I’m doing much in the four years I’m in office. It feels like I’m watching a movie as I just select an action and it’s a time skip cycle that repeats itself (I’m already a few chapters in and it’s the midterms) and it seems I read a lot of paragraphs before the game gets to its purpose as an interactive book I’m supposed to intervene as the reader and select a choice.

This should be fixed up now, thanks!

Thank you so much for the detailed message, I won’t reply to each one – but just about all of these have been fixed or added to my to-do list!

It is somewhat amorphous what age the President is, I think one scene mentions “late forties” but I honestly might delete it to leave it more open to the reader.

I do think this makes sense, I’ll make a note to myself to add this in.

This would be helpful and much appreciated!

I have gotten this feedback before and am aware that sections between decisions can be pretty text-heavy. I started writing with the idea of making sure that every decision has a large impact on events now and in the future, but it does mean that there are fewer decisions overall to help to slightly contain the huge amounts of branching at times.

I’ll first ask: did you feel that your character was doing things you disagreed with where you thought there should be decisions, or just that there was too much space between decisions?

If you felt that there was too much between major decisions, were there smaller points throughout the story where you felt that smaller ‘flavor’ decisions would be helpful to maintain interactivity? Decisions like deciding what to eat or picking between a few dialogue options, for example. These wouldn’t have massive impacts on the story but might change stats slightly.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

I know that my feedback is only one of many responses you heard over the many months you’ve been making the story so I imagine it’s been a rollercoaster of a journey up to this point and of course I can’t dictate to you how to handle your story.

I’m referring specifically to the ladder part of your question. While I’d like more choices in a story it becomes annoying when the story doesn’t acknowledge it, like choosing what to eat for breakfast, I feel there’s really no reason to include them if they all end in the same blocks of text without acknowledging a difference between the choices.

I’m sure you could include more choices for the player without sacrificing the stories core format, but I’d like it to not be done in a frivolous manner as I just want to immerse myself as the president rather then seemingly be a third party that’s influencing their decisions.

I’m not sure it’s normal to say that our relation is far from perfect with a relationship of 78%.
