Despite the fact that we share a continent, very few compatriots truly depend on the United States. I believe that Venezuela and Chile (my country) are the only ones that have continuous trade with the United States.
Wait a minute, it’s true that recently China is the biggest exporter of most of South America (Most of the world, but that’s not my point), but isn’t Venezuela being embargoed by the US? Or am I remembering wrong?
Due to the current situation in the country mostly due to Maduro’a reign. The US and others like the EU and Mexico are sactioning them. Best put this topic on the politics thread.
Bro . Canada and Mexico are the United States highest trading partners.
Unless you mean South America, and if so mb, but you forgot Colombia and Brazil
At least in my country
Brazil I could imagine but I had no idea about Colombia I’m not the greatest expert
Ooo i like that
Sadly that is just too unrealistic in Politics. Even the gme would not take that route.
Not to mention that one guy mentioned the reasons why the Nukes are justified and don’t deserve to be apoloziged for anyways.
I don’t know. Right now the government of my country Mexico has neither condemned the Chavista regime in Venezuela nor the Sandinista in Nicaragua.
Complaints have also been made to the US government about how much Uncle Sam insists that Mexico fight drug trafficking but Washington does not do the same with arms trafficking to Mexico.
In addition, Mexico’s policy of trying to be a friend of the whole world has allowed him not only to have the support of nations that have discords among them, as well as the key for the United States to have more influence on Hispanic America. For example, the Mexican government recently had certain discords about expelling Venezuela and Nicaragua from the OAS, which made Mexico not go to the meeting of this body and with them, not many nations in Latin America attended.
And assuming that this game is set in the near future of this decade, I would say that by then the seed of skepticism that Mexico sowed to the OAS (Similar to the euro-scepticism that caused UK to leave the EU) the MC has to deal with that the OAS disintegrates. Especially now that Hispanic America currently has left-wing governments with nationalist overtones while they are gradually abandoning the dollar.
And in such a scenario, there would be several solution options, but I see two more obvious ones: try to give up a bit of good faith so that Mexico and later the rest of Latin America see Uncle Sam with good eyes again or resort to the dirty tactics used in the last century as the Dirty War or the Condor operation to overthrow these governments and put people who support the interests of Washington.
These scenarios are clearly fiction but seeing that this is political fiction, I hope it is at least plausible.
Postscript: Access to lithium for the creation of microchips has become relevant in US politics and parallel to the Republican threats to invade Mexico, the expropriation of lithium was in the air of Mexican politics. (The same happens with Bolivia)
Am I the only one who has a problem with the game loading forever after my MC gives a State of the Union address? I clicked the next chapter and its been loading endlessly. I thought it was a PC problem but I switched to my iPhone and used Safari, same problem there and even with android phones. Is it a code problem or are my devices screwed?
End of Demo.
I don’t know what kind of relationship Colombia has with the United States, but to give us an idea I must point out that Colombia is one of the few countries on the continent with US military bases. From this premise we can get an idea of the relationship between the two governments in recent years.
Hello all, and Happy 4th to my American friends!
This is not my regular Writer’s Diary post, though I did have some suggestions/parts of the story that I was mulling over and wanted to get some feedback on.
Implementing Gender-Neutral Pronouns
For my non-binary readers: I’ve been working to include the potential for your character and for your spouse to be non-binary and have had a few issues in doing so. The first issue has been in finding a suitable gender-neutral replacement for more formal addresses and honorifics; for example Mr./Mrs. and Sir/Madam. I’ve been using the neutral “Mx.” but have struggled in finding a replacement for Sir/Madam.
I know from some of my friends in the military that “Sir” is oftentimes used in instances where a superior may be gender-neutral or ambiguous, as that is the default, but I’m also aware that it carries with it a largely masculine connotation.
Lastly, I’ve also had issues finding a gender-neutral term for the player’s children to address them. As of right now, I’ve just put in “parent” as a sort of place-hold in lieu of “mom” or “dad”, but it reads as a bit clunky and impersonal.
Obviously, I know that one non-binary person does not speak on behalf of the entire community, and each and every person will have their own ideas and preferences, but I was hoping you may be able to provide some guidance on how I can be most inclusive.
Writer’s Diary #30
July 9th, 2023
Look at this! An on-time Writer’s Diary! Plus, an added treat:
The July Edition of the Patreon Demo is now live!
For my friends reading this on Patreon, it should be the post immediately under this one titled “TPH | July Edition.” Alternatively, you can click here.
I do really apologize for not being able to release this update earlier as I had hoped, unfortunately, my beta testers were (rightly so!) enjoying personal time and I wasn’t able to play through and ensure there weren’t any issues earlier!
As a note about the demo – as I mentioned in my last post on the forum, the non-binary pronoun options are included but certainly have some polishing left to do. There are a few grammatical issues such as instances where the text reads “they is”, rather than “they are”, and a few clunky sections due to there not being any gender-neutral terms for certain elements of the story that I know of. (See this post for more on that).
The Updates
- Chapter 4 is coming along swimmingly! The Santorini branch is about 70% completed and the Denver branch I’d put at around 75%
- These two trips are fairly bare-bones right now, but I am planning on adding in more “flavor” scenes once the more broad strokes of the chapter are completed
- As a whole, I’d say that Chapter 4 is nearing the 45-50% complete mark
- The roadmap for Chapter 4 is → return from Santorini/Denver → joint rally event with a candidate for congress from your party → midterm elections → Congress begins investigating you and debating impeachment proceedings (of course) → chapter ends with you delivering your State of the Union and will include the opposition party’s response to your State of the Union
As always, thank you for your support, and I welcome your thoughts, questions, and feedback!

Is Charisma undervalued? I see very few checks and it doesn’t seem to affect the story or approval much, if at all compared to other stats.
same with media approval which doesn’t seem to soften the blow of scandals/gaffes like you’d expect
Hmmm…last I checked my mc had sky-high popularity, if that stays reasonable I have a hard time seeing his party lose the House, the Senate is always trickier, even with sky high favourability Senators are a bit trickier and if the map is really bad for mc’s party or some sub-optimal candidates got through I can see the Senate flipping since it only takes 3 seats to go from 52-48 to 51-49, but then the mc can already hedge against that by forming some connections with opposing party Senators.
Although it would be more work to write and I get that you want divided government to happen make the Senate a foregone conclusion but give us players a chance and a choice to salvage the house majority for their party.
Also not really seeing any real grounds for impeachment of the mc as they can do a good job of it so far in public demo, particularly since in my mc’s case it would be the Dems who’d have to do it. If my mc has any real scandals to uncover they would probably be connected to Portland real estate and developers back in Oregon and if that merits investigation at all it should be Oregon state authorities and the legislature over there who’d have to do it.
Frankly, I really doubt that the charisma value will have much of a use throughout the story – I’ll likely scrap it towards the end of the writing process if it doesn’t come in more useful as the story progresses. I had some ideas for it early on but anyone elected President needs to have, at a baseline, a fairly high level of charisma to begin with. I just don’t see many instances where the main character could improve their charisma, or where that additional stat would be more useful.
I am planning on doing more with the media later on – I do hope to include this stat as something important throughout the story.
It is planned that the House will be controlled by the opposition party following the first midterms. On average, Presidents lose around 30 seats in the House if I recall correctly, and rarely gain any. The current story has the President’s party with just a 6-seat majority in the House. Even with higher popularity, a lot of swing voters historically vote against the party of the current President as a way of “checking” their power.
Where I am allowing more leeway is in the Senate (where it will be possible to keep control of); there will also be varying degrees to which the House is lost. For example, as opposed to a landslide for the other party, we could see a similar situation to 2022 in the U.S. where the opposition party just won enough votes for a narrow majority. This will obviously have big implications for the rest of the chapter.
For this, at minimum, there is the scandal that Chapter 4 starts with, in addition to other campaign violations that came to light. I obviously won’t get too in-depth here but there will be pre-scripted events that the opposition party will begin investigating. If your character made other corrupt decisions, those things may also come to light in the investigation.
To your other point; popularity will also play a role in the public perspective of the investigation. For an incredibly unpopular President, the public would be a lot more supportive of that investigation becoming an impeachment – for an incredibly popular President, it’ll be viewed as a “witch hunt” and likely won’t make it too far.
Really? Man, you americans are weird
