The Oracle of Phorós (WIP) - PATREON UPDATE: April 3rd, 2026 | 125,715 Words

When your ancestors finally worked up the courage to investigate the wreckage, they discovered things that changed the future forever. The hull of their ship was recognizable as metal, so they scavenged it first. With fire and stone, they fashioned impenetrable armor and blades that never dulled. They made war upon each other for centuries until the Progenitor, a mysterious figure with unclear origins, rose above the petty materialism of their mortal ken and dared to enter the craft of the Xenoi – the foreigners.

Within, the Nameless Progenitor was given a divine revelation: they must seize and deliver the gifts of the Xenoi to the world through word, deed, or the sword.

The Progenitor founded a holy city within the crater lake formed by the crash site and named it Phorós. From their island capital, the Progenitor’s generals and diplomats surveyed every corner of the continent. To those they found most worthy, they shared the divine secrets of Xenoi magic. If a supplicant would only swear fealty to the Progenitor, they would be taken into the Hieron, the holiest of shrines.

When the newly-blessed vassals emerged, they found that they possessed extraordinary abilities (all thanks to the grace of the Nameless Progenitor, of course). Eyes that could see for miles, ears capable of hearing the tiniest whisper, legs that allowed one to leap like a rabbit! All of these and more.

…But the most prized was the gift of prophecy.

You play as an oracle, one of the few people able to receive visions of the future while dreaming. Your latest prediction doesn’t go according to plan, however, and you end up venturing beneath the very foundations of the Holy City in order to prevent a catastrophe that will end life as you know it. …Or maybe you will decide that you’ve had enough of being a puppet of the imperial system and would be completely fine with burning everything down around you. The choice is yours!

As The Oracle of Phorós, you can:

  • Customize your oracle’s appearance, background, gender, and sexuality.
  • Discover secrets of the past…some of which might be better left forgotten.
  • Romance your fellow oracle, a stern priest, or a royal of the imperial family.
  • Interact with a rich world and cast of dynamic characters as you journey to save your way of life…or destroy it forever!

Very interesting story, definitely different but in a good way.

I hope that in the future we’ll get the chance to scream in Anticharis’ face about everything we’ve had to go through and how much we actually hate him and everyone who did this to us lmao Seriously, my mc lives for antagonizing everyone (except Tychon, they’re cool and actually treat us like a human being, and MAAAYYYBEEEE Daphnis. Anticharis is on the thin ice. Very thin ice. Oh, it’s breaking).

So far so good  i hope we can have a chance to CHANGE our dearest interpreter’s mind about his devotion to the very questionable system he’s part of.

Wonderfully written and intriguing! May I ask if you’ve read Gene Wolfe’s “Book of the New Sun” series? The whole “Surface-level medieval kingdom that is actually a post-apocalyptic future with Clarke’s Third Law technology treated as magical or divine” vibe reminded me of it.

Thank you – that was my goal!

Oh, you will…

I hope he doesn’t freeze!

It might be difficult – he believes he has a pretty good reason for being so dogmatic. You’ll get a chance to try, though!

Thank you!

I’ve never read it, but it sounds cool! (:

Very interesting. I do enjoy antagonizing everybody. Especially Tychon, for daring to be a royal.

Will the MC’s origin be very relevant to the story?

Ahaha! How dare he/she!

I don’t know if I would say “very” relevant. It will come up in dialogue and certain scenes, and some of the endings will feature a chance to reconnect with the main character’s roots, but my intention was to highlight the disconnect with the oracle and their background by deliberately not exploring it very much.

Just worked through this and the story is so interesting so far. It feels so unique in comparison to any other choice script I’ve ever played in the best way possible! I will be keeping my eyes on this.

Thank you!

Yeah, I’m not even sure what genre to call it. I’m not sure there’s a categorization yet for: “what if space aliens crash landed in Byzantium and the early church officials started harvesting extraterrestrial organs and limbs and grafting them onto themselves?”

Genre wise I’d say science fiction or science fantasy both work well.

Works for me! (:

I did not know what I was getting into based on the intro post but I loved every minute of the demo.

This and Parasitical scratch a very particular itch with “fantasy(?) setting made possible via the exploitation of the dead/dying body of an alien(-god?).”

Didn’t even know I had that itch, actually. :open_mouth:

Looking forward to more!

Oh, wow! Thank you!

That does sound like a very particular itch!

There is a new update available for the members of my Patreon page! This update will be accessible by the public one week from today. In the update, I’ve completed chapters 3 and 4 (including romance interactions), fixed some spelling/grammar and continuity errors, and written some 100,000 more words.

There are also weekly developer insights that I’ve started doing and new lore/supplementary content, commissioned artwork, and polls that I’m adding constantly, so if that sounds like something you would be interested in, consider becoming a patron!

Fun demo! I enjoy all the Greek. Nice blend of history, mythology, and sci-fi here.

Tychon is definitely my favorite character introduced thus far. I found them very relatable — I too get ribbed for saying words like magnificent and splendid unironically :joy:

Royal ROs are a lot of fun, especially here where Tychon’s poise and mannerisms contrast with our bubbly and serious other companions. I look forward to seeing what this band of misfits gets up to.

Thank you!

Me, too!

You’ll see in a few days! (:

I’ve updated The Oracle of Phorós, today! In this update, I’ve:

  • Fixed the time line erroneously showing you refused deepening the ship’s connection before you’ve even met it.

  • Added the word “skin” after “light brown” during character creation.

  • Corrected the MC’s age during custom pronoun selection.

  • Properly *set mcmetsphynx as true so her name shows up on the reputations screen.

  • Added the different paths to enshrinement (volunteer, forced, debt) to the time line.

  • Fixed various spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors.

  • Finished chapters 3 and 4.

  • Written some 100,000 new words.

Weird – it looked like everything was uploaded properly on my CoGDemos dashboard! I’ve deleted and uploaded the relevant files, again. Does it work now?
