The Marked (WIP)

Ah, that makes more sense to me now, thank you.

This is actually very well written great job!

Also I assume you will need high friendship with a character to romance them?

Dreams aside i see the conflict a brewing from other aspects of the story and i thi k i know where i will lean even though still no so little.

@AnneWest No problem!

@Trotskyboi Thank you so much! Romance and friendship are tracked separately so it’s possible to romance a character without the highest friendship.

@Valixon I’m really glad to know that you’ve formed some ideas based on the tension floating around Braum. It’s one of the things I wanted from the prologue.

Any advice on raising the Virtuous stat to gain Light-Powers? I’m planning on buddying up with L and having the classic Paladin/Aqua Spellblade x Holy Saintess pairing. Because I’m a sucker for tried and true tropes.

Sure thing! Same as for the dark Affinity, you can easily get it by first picking a specific response involving Randall (give up your allowance to his bully). Then later make one more choice which can be (1) selecting that you “wouldn’t dare steal” at the market, (2) sympathizing with Wilbert at the temple, or if you decide to pick a fight with Venali, (3) sympathize with their feelings while at the dean or (4) preemptively apologize to them at the town square.

Why would that work in regards to light but convincing Randall to talk to his parents about it wouldn’t? Paying off his bully doesn’t keep the other kid from bullying other people, it teaches him that bullying is profitable.

Though telling Randall to speak with his parents can be considered the appropriate response to the situation, it doesn’t mean it is the virtuous one. Even when you behave in a virtuous manner, it doesn’t mean it will always be the absolute best course of action. It’s the sacrificing of your allowance to help someone else, for nothing in return, that equates it to a virtuous decision. It doesn’t necessarily mean it was the most helpful for the long-term solution.

Thanks, I need to remember this one.

I’ve learned from this story. I’m water based if I was in this world.

Yes. Some parents will react with complete negativity if the man is highly testeroned, mean to everyone but his own family. Witnessed this myself and its not good to confess “weakness” to him. He would never share anything with his father.

Gotta know the parents on how they act, if good or bad, usually does nothing, even with a good parent.

Was thinking about this is it a hard set that that choice must be made? Or can a combination of the other choices lead to being able to have the light option?

@jjc73 Learning what Affinity people end up with is a lot of fun. Water, fire and light seem to be the most common so far!

@Valixon It’s not! Just the easiest way to go about it. You need 65 in the virtuous/wicked stat. The Randall situation gives an easy +10 boost and the others are +5.

I tried by following the suggestions to get wicked, so i can get a dark afinity. I ended up with fire as my only choice.

I would suggest tweaking the requirements because both times I played I was limited to affinities I did not want.

The story and world building is fabulous, which is why I would want to try different combinations of personality and affinity. As things stand, it is very difficult to have the freedom to have both a personality I’d want and an affinity I want.

Keep up the great work @Peonyb.

What is that last affinity? I haven’t been able to get that one selectable at all.

I got force as a mage, cool enough, except for the fact my mc already hates his “power” for taking his parents away and as a mage it probably means being Venali’s good little servant and understudy and my mc already has a -5 relationship with him.

If you select “Told him why he shouldn’t tolerate bullies,” when asked how to deal with Randall for a +10 and later either laugh at Wilbert at the temple +5, choose to steal at the market +5 or say you would have done the “same thing” as Venali (if you end up at the dean) +5, you’ll have 65 wicked and unlock the dark Affinity. You just have to make sure to avoid accidentally making any virtuous decisions along the way. They’re usually in direct opposition though so it should be okay.

I understand! It’s possible to unlock up to four Affinities by time the selection comes up, but it does require a mix of personality selection (charming=fire, diplomatic=water, reserved=air and broody=force) and playing to genuine/deceitful (water/air), emotion/control (fire/force) and wicked/virtuous (dark/light) stats. The reason I have it this way is because the Affinity is supposed to be reflective of a person’s nature and is tied to the overarching theme of the story. I know it can be a bit confusing though and I apologize for that!

The last selection is the “destiny” choice which allows you to select your Affinity in a lore-friendly way. To get it you would have to find a way to obtain a destiny elixir from the merchant at the market.

I chose both “Told him why he shouldn’t tolerate bullies,” when asked how to deal with Randall for a +10 and later stole the elixir. I also said I’d have done the same thing while at the dean’s office and tried to fight the girl a second time.

I ended up with a wicked stat of 55, if I remember, so I must have somehow got virtue points.

On my first play-through I got fire and air, and on my second, I only got fire affinity.

I chose charming both times and so the first run ending with air and fire (charming and deceitful) tracks. The second run is the one that did not track with me “gaming” the stats.

I just feel the reader will experience frustration if you keep the rigidity that exists.

I enjoy the story and world-building, so I would continue reading, but not being allowed an affinity I wanted leaves a frustration that others may not ignore.

Edit: Perhaps adding light and dark to the genuine/deceitful opposite pair would open light and dark affinity more.

I’ve added a +10 boost in stats in the Randall conversation selections and a +10 to the first one with Welling. But, it has to be remembered that personality and nature stats can overlap. So, for example, if you play as a charming MC but then only stick to emotional choices and avoid genuine or deceitful, wicked or virtuous, you will only get fire. In addition, if the two nature stats that you do decide to choose between oppose one another, you’ll only get that one additional Affinity (if again it doesn’t overlap with the same Affinity unlocked by your personality).

Light/dark are separated as they are more uniquely natured. I’m not sure I could say that genuine always equates to virtuous and deceit to wickedness.

I bought the potion but was still forced into having either fire or water

@TheBlackOtaku Each of the four elixirs has a different bonus (+intellect, +affinity, +physical or a change of destiny).
