The Golden Rose: Book One by Ana Ventura

Yeah I had just added that to my comment right before your post. To be honest I forget that there are people playing as a guy, so it never crossed my mind that the preestablished attraction to the female MC would be the difference.

Seconded for Dawnseeker RO. An MC with a healthy growing relationship with Alessa while having a toxic attraction to a feral psychopath hits some golden angst button in my soul for some reason

Feral psychopaths happen to be my favorite. :smirk: I have a hard time being mean, even to fictional characters. I don’t know if I could do that to Alessa, but the drama would absolutely be worth the mental anguish.

They’re both disheartened at first cause either one of them have a crush on our MC, depending on our gender. But they both are quite understanding, at least in my playthroughs. Spoilers for the hotel-Especially in their POV scenes later at the hotel, our admirer friend even supports and assures the one we’re interested in

I realize you already know this at this point but yeah, I was playing a male MC so Alessa started with an interest and Hadrian seemed to both know and support it from the start. I actually am impressed that whole dynamic could be so different. This will be a great one on replays, I can already tell.

Just finished going for an oblivious and dumb-as-a-rock MC playthrough and all I can say is that being a complete idiot and doing stupid choices is way more fun than I expected lmaooo

The way that some of the ROs react to a completely naïve MC who doesn’t know what their advancements meant and MC being confused asf about it is so enjoyable to read especially Ysabella/Alain’s tavern interaction with MC because dear lord the whole MC thinking Alain is simply a nice stranger for giving a free drink or thinking that Ysabella just needed some friendly help refilling her drink and then talking about it to Hadrian and Alessa who are just looking at the MC, bewildered by how dense their brain is :joy:

Also, I sure as hell decided to make my stupid MC attempt climbing the devil’s bridge and obviously fail. 10/10 experience, will attempt to climb again

Can someone tell definite answer: Is there actual magic in the setting or is stuff just misunderstood superstition. Thought it was latter, but the “Mark” on MC, siren thing and the zombie thing from interlude made me confused.

I played male mc and romanced Hadrian, Alissa was incredibly jealous and had a sour face on her every time I interacted with him. This actually made me really dislike her, wish the was an option where my mc could sit her down and tell her he has no interest in women so could you please stop.

I’m using the hosted web and I’ve been using the same card to purchase games there for years.

idk if it changed in the paid version, but don’t Alissa and Hadrian sit togther in the pub at night and give the other their blessing (depending on which you romance) early on in the game? In the demo I played, Alissa (and Hadrian if you’re playing F romancing Alissa) understands fully well that they’re not the one for mc and accepts it. If they’re still jealous, it’s not like accepting it will make the feelings immediately go away.

Kind of?

In the author’s tumblr she said that TGR is low-fantasy, so I think there will be magic but the magic won’t be the casting-fireballs-left-and-right type iirc

Curses and things like that do get mentioned in game and exist, so ig that’s a kind of magic if you can classify that under it.

Sirens and other similar creatures aren’t necessarily magic imo as they can simply be some sort of creature that just exists in a low-fantasy setting.

Although the witches thing and MC’s Mark though… not really sure ‘bout that. Although I’m definitely guessin’ that there is a form of magic being used — similar to curses(?)

i’ve played through with both a female mc romancing alessa and a male mc romancing hadrian, both times they “got over themselves” fairly quickly, enough that they could banter about the other’s budding romance at least :man_shrugging:

Finally finished reading! I was trying really hard not to just slam it in one day and I’m glad I did, it was nice to have at least a little time between readings to digest the story. I read the extended demo so I already knew it was spectacular but wow did the full thing live up to every expectation! I love all the characters so much, and the world itself is so intriguing, I just want to know more!! I’m excited for book two of course, but I’m also excited for all the different playthroughs of book one I’m going to try during the wait time😊

Would someone by chance know who the romantic interests in this game are and maybe a brief description of them? Maybe I’m just blind, but I’m only really finding information about Hadrian and Alessa.

Off topic, but can you win the fight against the bandits without getting injured?

Finally found the time to play the game after waiting for a long time. I’m not that far into the game but I can easily say it has the potential to be one of my favorites. I’m curious about the corruption stat though. Does it get explained this book and will it come to bite me later?

Actually, loving the game so far, but after a while, as I make progress it crashes or something, decides to delete my progress and get me to the very beginning of the game :skull: happened maybe 4 times now. My heart can’t bear the thought of having Hadrian just outside my reach haha…help:kissing:
Has this happened to anybody?

Does this happen in the same place in the game, or just wherever?

Spain, the kingdom, didn’t exist at the time. The story takes place in the Crown of Aragon, and Tarragona is south of Barcelona.

(Excuse my terrible Paint skills)

That was probably my favorite Hadrian interaction scene of the book!

So glad you liked Beka!

You’re the first one to mention it! xD

Hmm, can you email COG about the issue? It seems this may be a problem with the app.

This is absolutely one of the best CoGs currently available! Thanks for writing it, @Anathema.

I’m probably going to hold out for the romance with Vallen in (presumably) book 2, because that looks like it’s going to a car crash in slow motion and it’ll be fun to watch.

Quick question for anyone who played the Beta/has managed to work it out after release:

Is there any advantage of going to Chapter 5 after only visiting 3 locations in Chapter 4, if you’ve worked out the location, or should you always go to 4 locations in Chapter 4?

I suppose the only real “advantage” I can think of is that you get to go to the Leaping Lion and take Billy with you, if you so desire. Other than that, you get a few different lines here and there in chapter 5.

It’s up to you what you prefer!
